Magic that allows the user to identify and change properties of non-living material, even

completely transforming one material into another.

Glossary:
● Transmutation: The process materials undergo during the use of alchemy which
changes them.
● Reactant: The original material that will go through transmutation.
● Product: The material after transmutation.
● Catalyst: Acts as a template for the transmutation. The material with the property the
Alchemist is trying to copy onto another material. Not necessary.
● Fuel: Material that is “consumed” during a transmutation. Most often used to make up for
a difference in mass. This could be the catalyst, but it doesn’t have to be.
● Trait: A constant property of a given material. The hardness of diamond. The texture of
wool. Something like heat cannot be captured by Alchemy, as it is not a natural feature
of an object. You could, however, use traits like the heat insulating properties of wool.

Limitations:
● Mass cannot be created
○ The use of fuel is needed to create more of a certain item
○ Density is important to consider. A high density material has more mass than a
low mass material in an equal volume.
● Mass is required to Fuel Alchemy
○ Some fuel is always required, even when there is no difference in mass. The
extra mass is converted into heat, so freshly transmuted materials are warm to
the touch.
○ Complex materials have more value as Fuel
● Alchemy cannot affect living materials
○ “Organic” material is fine. As long as it is no longer living. So chopped wood
could be used in alchemy, or a severed limb. But not a tree’s leaf, or a person's
skin.
● Shape cannot be changed, only size
○ Size can be changed with fuel, but the product will always have the shape of the
reactant.
● Complex materials are harder to use than simple materials
○ Iron is easy to use as a catalyst/reactant. Steel is only slightly harder. Wood is
much harder, as is meat.
○ This is because of the complex materials many properties and chemical makeup.
Iron consists of only a few compounds. Meat has many compounds from fat,
proteins, enzymes, ect.
● Alchemy is limited by touch
○ In order to transmute an object, an alchemist must be able to touch it. He also
must touch the fuel and catalyst.
● Alchemy requires concentration
○ This is especially true when a catalyst is not used. But it is importtant during any
act of Alchemy. Losing concentration results in failed alchemy
■ Meditation is important to alchemists
● Alchemy is not permanent
○ Any Product will eventually disintegrate.

Ability:
● Trait Transfer: Taking a property from a catalyst and applying it to a reactant to create a
product with that trait. Make wool with the strength of steel, or iron as flammable as
wood.
● Transmute: Take one material and turn it completely into another object. Taking all
properties of one material and transferring them to a reactant.
