Eastenders narrative:
https://youtu.be/52xkt-ktc_M
EastEnders is a successful prerecorded television show aired in the UK The sole
purpose of this show is to excite the viewer with the drama included. multiple
camera setups are used in the sequences, as multiple shows are aired week in
week out. Having a range of equipment allows the processing time to be cut a lot
shorter, which adds much needed efficiency.
The usage of multi-camera action allows it to be much simpler for the editing
process to minimize the time of transitions. The use of multi-camera does not
mean that it would not be necessary to re-take recordings in order to get the
correct feelings from performers
This is how a lot of multi camera set ups look like. The various angles captured
allows the viewer to not be watching from only one angle, which keeps the viewer
interested. There can either be a single interviewee in front of the cameras whilst
the interviewer is behind the cameras asking questions or both the interviewee
and interviewer can be in front of the cameras. The cameras furthest forwards
usually capture the close up shots whilst the cameras further backwards captures
mid-long shots.
Studio roles
Camera operators:
Camera operators are responsible for all camera movement. They tend to behave
much like a cinematographer as their tasks are fairly similar to that of one.
Camera operators must determine lighting, framing and camera action. In
addition to this, camera operators must ensure that all cameras are working and
ready for use
Floor managers:
Floor managers act as second in command to the director. They ensure that
everyone knows what they are doing. The use o walkie talkies and other
communication tools is also quite common amongst floor managers as they are
constantly taking directions from the director. In a nutshell their job role is to
provide efficiency and stability during live shows.
Boom operators:
These people operate the boom mic which booms sound without being detected
in the frame. It is important for boom operators to know who is speaking and
when they are speaking in order to execute their job as best as they can.
Presenter:
Presenters often read their script from an auto cue on live tv. This is used for
them to read their lines whilst simultaneously looking dead on at the camera
Gallery roles
Director:
The director is responsible for cinematography, stage planning, costume and
directing as this all equates to high quality visuals. The accuracy of camera
motions and angles is of the standards set by the director. The costumes of the
actors must be appropriate to the theme of the film or series. The director must
ensure that they can effectively get their points across to the actors and
production crew in order for the film or series to be as good as possible.
Vision mixer:
The job of the vision mixer is to cut the shots that the director favors. They are
also tasked with searching through the previews. When the vision mixer taps on a
vision mixing desk, the picture that we would see at home would be changed.
Vision mixers must also be fast thinkers.
Production assistant:
Production assistants have the job of ensuring that everything runs smoothly on
set and making themselves as useful as possible. An example of a job that a
production assistant might do is bring refreshments for the rest of the production
crew.
Sound mixer:
The sound mixer must ensure that the sound rates are matched and is ideal for
production. The microphones must also be tested to ensure that the quality is
appropriate as they will be used by presenters. This job does however get
delegated to the sound engineers.
VT operator:
A VT operator’s multicam function is used in the post production cycle, meaning
its not live. They must operate the tape recording system so that it meets the
instructions given. It also needs to be ensured that playback is in line with running
commands.
