Wiki Page:
 Rick, the IEEE President, has designed a Wiki page. A Wiki page is very similar to a
Wikipedia page. The Wiki page is meant to be used to keep members up-to-date on
all things IEEE. It is also a place to submit any ideas or comments about anything
IEEE. The Wiki page can be found at:
http://www.centraldesktop.com/muyse1rl/cmuieee/FrontPage

Becoming a Member:
 To become a member of IEEE, you can sign up at www.ieee.org. Signing up at this
website is not mandatory; however it will look good on your resume. The perks for
signing up for a membership are the free magazines with very interesting engineering
and technology related articles, possible internship/job offers, contests to enter and
win money, and even possible scholarships.

Cardboard Boat Race:

 Oct. 16 is CMU’s Homecoming, as well as the always entertaining cardboard boat
race. We will be provided with enough materials to make 2 boats. Anyone interested
in working on or riding in one of the marvelous boats should keep an eye out on the
Wiki page for more details as they become available.

Student Professional Awareness Conference:

 For the Student Professional Awareness Conference (S-PAC) this year we are
planning on having 1 or 2 speakers. On the Wiki page is a link to the S-PAC page.
Click this link to check out the possible speakers and/or topics. Feel free to e-mail
your picks to Rick Muysenberg at muyse1rl@gmail.com.
Projects:
 Some possible project ideas would be smaller sized projects. A past project was the
Light Seeking Robot. We have lots of materials and small kits at our disposal. A
possible project is to heat something by induction. More information will become
available at the next meeting. Anyone with any project ideas should post them at the
Wiki page.
 Another possible project is designing t-shirts for CMU’s IEEE chapter. Anyone
interested in designing them, please submit your design to Rick. CMU-IEEE shirts
are a good source of advertisement around campus.

Open Labs:
 In the past, we have had open labs for students to work on small projects and for
homework help. This year, we will be having open labs on Fridays from 1:00 p.m. to
4:00 p.m. Our first open lab will be this Friday, September 10, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to
4:00 p.m. in ET 224. We will have the snap circuits and soldering kits available. Also,
next Friday, September 17, 2010 we will be making capacitors in our open lab. We
still need film bottles. If anyone has some or knows where we can find some, please
let Rick know. Make sure to check the Wiki page for updates on the open labs.

Windmill:
 James (Nick) Martin is in charge of the Windmill project. This windmill will produce
1500 Watts of power. The windmill was hooked up, however due to the strong wind,
the blades blew off. Once the plastic hub is fixed, the windmill will be reassembled
and placed back up. The next meeting is set for Monday, September 13, 2010 at 5:15
p.m. in ET 224. You can also check out the windmill project’s website at:
www.cmuwindturbine.webs.com

Social Events:
 Last fall, we had an IEEE bowling team at the Riverwood Bowling alley. We have
also had IEEE bowling nights. We will be planning an open hours bowling event.
Keep an eye out on the Wiki page for more information.
 The tubing event for September 5, 2010 was cancelled due to cold weather. We hope
to reschedule once the weather becomes nicer.
 For more information on our social events, make sure you look at the Wiki page.
 Be sure to check out our Facebook page too!

Field Trips:
 Last year we took a field trip to Nexteer Automotive in Saginaw.
 Possible options for field trips for this year consist of Nexteer Automotive, Dow
Chemical, Mears, and many more. If you have a suggestion for a possible field trip,
please send your ideas to any of the officers by clicking on the CMU IEEE contact
links.
