2.1 Airport Search Feature

The iPad application has the ability to search for full airport details. See iPad Manual – Section 3
Airport Search for further details on this feature.

2.2 Aircraft WiFi Mode

Located along the horizontal menu at the top of the page, there is a WiFi icon which shows the network
name (SSID) of the WiFi the iPad is currently connected to (if any). There is also a blue aircraft
symbol with a plus sign (+) next to it.

To add the current network as an “Aircraft WiFi” network tap the blue aircraft icon. Automatic
downloads over WiFi will not occur while on an aircraft WiFi network. This is to prevent potentially large
downloads from occurring over satellite-based WiFi even if the automatic download preference is set to
“WiFi only” or “WiFi and Mobile” for a particular download category. Tap on the blue aircraft symbol
with a minus sign (-) to remove a network from the Aircraft WiFi list.

1
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
iPad Manual Collins Proprietary

Each time the iPad connects to an aircraft WiFi, the icon changes to an aircraft symbol and inhibits
automatic downloads. Downloads, such as weather or flight plan refresh, can still be performed by
manually requesting an update.

NOTE: While the ARINCDirect app is in this mode, all other apps on the iPad (such as email retrieval)
continue to function as normal. To block all apps from downloading, switch the iPad to Airplane Mode
in the iPad settings.

If WiFi is disabled but the iPad is accessing a mobile network, the mobile symbol appears rather than
the WiFi or airplane symbol.

If both the WiFi and Mobile are disabled on the device, a “no network” symbol appears.

2
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016

2.3 Network Manager

2.3.1 Data Sharing
Data sharing uses the Network Manager feature . This requires iOS 12 or later on the iPad device.
Network Manager makes the connection process easy and provides reliable data sharing. This feature
is used to share annotations, plotting-chart entries, and other data between iPads.

The Network Manager automatically reconnects with the most recently connected device assuming
the other device is also awake, and is not already connected with another device. The application also
remembers all available devices previously connected with if they are in the Authorized Peers list.
The application can connect with one other device at any given time.

NOTE: If logged out of the app, any device(s) listed in the Authorized Peers list is no longer
remembered.

IMPORTANT: It is strongly recommend your device be kept updated to the latest iOS version to
ensure proper operation of the app.

3
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
iPad Manual Collins Proprietary

To delete any device in your Authorized Peers list, swipe to the left and tap Delete.

2.3.2 Annotation Sharing

Annotation sharing can be seen with any document that has annotation capability. If notes are added
to a document, the remote iPad connected to the device is able to retrieve and view these changes. To
make them clearly distinguishable, all annotations from remote devices will appear in green, regardless
of the type of annotation or color that the remote device has selected.

4
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
iPad Manual Collins Proprietary

NOTE: One individual is not able to modify any other individual’s remote changes on their device. All
annotations will, however, be saved in the document when archived.

2.4 Refresh
2.4.1 Legs
The application is capable of loading New, Current, or Past legs onto the app. Under the Refresh tool
on the top bar, three options are available: Refresh New Legs only, Refresh New & Past Legs, and
refresh the Current Leg only.

2.5 Leg Picker

The Leg Picker options for viewing include All and Today. All is selected by default and shows a list
of all legs. This includes previous legs if they have been downloaded utilizing the Past Legs under the
Refresh tool. Today shows only legs scheduled to depart within the next 24 hours.

3.1 Airport Search

The Airport Search feature is available allowing a search of full airport details, not just leg airports,
for any airport worldwide. This capability, using AC‐U-KWIK and other data sources, allows
access to weather, NOTAMs, airport details, FBOs, services, nearby hotels and airport charts for
any airport.

NOTE: Chart coverage is limited to the US, Canada, and Europe only.

Using the Airport Search - a magnifying glass icon in the top right portion of the application (see
image below) will search a database of approximately 29,000 aerodromes worldwide.

A search can be made by ICAO, IATA, city, State, Country, or Airport Name. Additionally,
recent searches and Leg Airports are listed for quick access.

The Minimum Runway Length Filter can assist in narrowing the search results within a query of
the airports database.

1
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016

Tap the row in the search results for the airport to be viewed.

After selection of the airport, a window will open that displays six categories of airport data
across the bottom of the screen. They are:

o General
 Location, Time, and general airport information

2
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
IPad Manual Collins Proprietary

o Weather
 DATIS, METAR, TAF, PIREPs, and WINDS

o Runways
 Dimensions, PCN Values, and Lighting

o Frequencies
 Local frequencies for Tower, ATIS, Clearance, etc.

o Services
 FBOs, Services, and Hotel information

o NOTAMs
 NOTAMs are also available via the NOTAMs icon below weather. See iPad
Manual Section 9 – NOTAMs Icon for further information related to NOTAMs.

When selecting Services, three different categories are easily available and will display local
information such as phone numbers, frequencies (if applicable), hours, etc. by tapping the icon
desired.

3
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
IPad Manual Collins Proprietary

When finished looking at the airport information, tap the Done icon in the upper left corner and
you will return to the area selected prior to the search.

3.2 Individual Airport SmartNOTAMs

There is a NOTAM tab in the searched airport’s Full Airport Info that includes SmartNOTAMs.
The functionality is similar to the Leg NOTAM brief but it is geared towards NOTAM information
for the individual airport rather than for a full flight plan. See iPad Manual Section 9 – NOTAMs
for more information regarding SmartNOTAMs.

3.3 Adding to a Leg

When considering an additional airport, other than leg based airports (for example, a second
alternate or tech stop), the Add to Leg feature can be attached to a specific leg for quick
access of airport information.

To add it to a leg, open the airport information desired and tap on the Add to Leg feature in the
upper right hand corner:

4
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016

4.1 Checklist
Any relevant leg-related item that the iPad app is aware of has a row in the Checklist that
includes an indication of the status of the items. The intent of this page is to serve as a “good-to-
go” reference from an ARINCDirect data perspective.

Where applicable, tapping a given row will automatically relocate to the appropriate
ARINCDirect website tab/iPad app icon to enable any required action (APIS required, Slots
required, Filing, etc.). Missing data can also be downloaded directly from the Checklist by
tapping the download icon.

The Flight Checklist has the ability to hide any row where you do not want to see the status
using the Edit Cells feature.

Deselect the rows that are to be hidden and tap Done to update the Flight Checklist for all legs
on that specific device. Your selections will not synch to other company devices.

1

Note: If the Weight & Balance row in the Flight Checklist status is hidden, badging of the
Weight & Balance icon is also disabled.

A count of the number of hidden rows will be shown at the top of the display once Done is
tapped.

4.1.1 PDC on the iPad

Every PDC sent to the app automatically creates a PDF Document and associates it with the
appropriate Leg. A copy of the document, with any annotations, is also archived back to the
website. The ATC Clearance is emphasized within the PDC and an alert badge is activated for
receipt of the PDC.

2
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
IPad Manual Collins Proprietary

NOTE: Many PDCs are issued which do not contain the destination airport ICAO identifier in
the body of the clearance. This is particularly common in Canada making it difficult to deliver the
PDCs to the app due to the uncertainty regarding the owning leg. However, these PDCs are
still delivered to the app as a PDF document in the Aircraft Documents section of the app.
PDCs that do contain a destination are delivered to the Checklist section of the app as well as
an alert is displayed.

4.1.4 Checklist Prompt for Recompute

If the filed ETD is not the same as the calculated ETD on a flight plan, a message will appear in
the Checklist. Tapping the Flight Plan bar in the Checklist will redirect to the Recompute
function.

The Recompute function of the flight plan displays a slot-style date and time window prompting
the flight plan calculation to match the time in the filing. Selecting Update will initiate the flight

5.11 Manually Archiving Documents in App

The app always automatically copies W&B/Performance Releases to the ARINCDirect servers
when Save Release is selected within WIFI or mobile coverage. The same auto-archive feature
occurs for other annotated documents when the leg is two hours past the estimated time of
arrival.

A Manual Archive function is also available which allows the saving of any document,
annotated or not, to the website immediately after selection when connected to the internet. If
no internet is available, the manually archived document stays on the device under Documents
until connected and they can be synced with your account on the ARINCDirect website.
Archived documents are saved to the website in the Leg or Past Leg folder for whichever leg
was selected when the Archive action took place. Below is an image of the icon for the Manual
Archive button.

5.12 Viewing Archived Documents

Auto-archive occurs 2 hours after scheduled arrival time with an internet connection. The file
naming convention uses the original file name plus _archived with a time and date stamp.

5.13 Full Screen

The full screen icon expands the display area to the full screen and removes the top and
left bars from view. To reduce the screen back to normal size, tap the X in the upper left corner.

6.1 Weight & Balance/Performance Icon

The Weight & Balance and Performance on the iPad is self-contained. This means that these
features can be used even when not connected to the internet. Some tasks (such as initial data-
file retrieval and pushing releases back to the website) DO require a connection.

Initiating a Weight & Balance/Performance calculation can be accomplished in two ways:

1. From the ARINCDirect website, via the flight planning page

2. From the iPad app

The iPad app automatically retrieves any calculations performed on the website when the flight
plan was run.

CAUTION: Once the Weight & Balance/Performance has been edited on an iPad and the
release has been saved, any further changes from the website are ignored by the iPad. In
addition, any changes made on the iPad do not appear on the website or in the Flight
Plan Package. This limitation is caused by the way Weight & Balance/Performance is
calculated on the iPad. Also note, changes made to the passenger and cargo in the app
are not recomputed and updated times/burns are not reflected in the flight plan.

Note: See Section 6.2 for more information regarding viewing and saving the Release.

6.1.1 Weight & Balance/Performance Obstacle Corridor Rule Sets

The iPad application has two options when applying rule sets in the obstacle corridor for Weight
& Balance/Performance calculations; ICAO and FAA. The ICAO corridor expands at a faster
rate than the FAA rule set corridor and thus more obstacles are taken into consideration,
potentially resulting in more conservative results than on the website. ARINCDirect adheres to
how the account is configured on the website, using either the FAA or ICAO rule set as
appropriate. Only one obstacle corridor rule set can be stored in the application. If your
account utilizes both corridors among different tails in your fleet, ARINCDirect utilizes the ICAO
corridor, as that is the more conservative option. This reduces the instances where the
application results are more conservative than on the website. The application displays at the
top of performance page which obstacle criteria rule set was used for Performance
Computations.

6.1.2 Status Indication for Weight & Balance Icon

A status indicator is shown as a badge on the Weight & Balance icon displaying the same
status as in the Flight Checklist.

A Red triangle indicates that Weight & Balance has not been released in the app.

A Yellow triangle indicates Weight & Balance has been released in the app, but was
completed more than 120 minutes ago.

A Green check means you are good to go!

Note: the Weight & Balance icon does not change to show balanced scales as it did in
previous versions. The badge is the only representation of status.

6.1.3 Weight & Balance/Performance Release

There is one significant difference between Weight & Balance/Performance on the website and
on the iPad. Calculations performed on the website are complete and stored once the flight plan
is created. On the iPad, the Weight & Balance/Performance is not complete until a “Release” is
generated, viewed, and saved. Therefore, even when a Weight & Balance/Performance
calculation is performed on the website, on the iPad it displays as incomplete, until the release
is viewed and saved.

Note: Once the Weight & Balance/Performance is viewed and saved it is shared with other
iPads in the same company.

The Release Document is a PDF that gets placed in the documents folder. As with all PDF
documents, the annotation feature is available for use on the Release. A copy of the release is
stored on the ARINCDirect website under the selected leg on the Documents tab. The Weight &
Balance Release can be generated as many times as needed. The iPad always retains the latest
release generated. The ARINCDirect Website keeps a copy of each Release identified by the
time they were created.

Important Notes

• An aircraft must be enabled for both Weight & Balance and Performance for this feature
to be enabled in the app.
• If a Weight & Balance/Performance calculation has not been generated, viewed, and
saved, an advisory message shows in the Flight Checklist (as in the following image).

6.1.5.1 Departure and Destination Details

If no Weight & Balance/Performance calculations were previously planned on the website,

default values from the website (takeoff weight, landing weight, fuel load, etc.) are provided in
the Weight & Balance icon. As more information is entered into the application (such as runway
information and weather) the Weight & Balance and Performance results are re-computed in
real time.

After tapping the performance arrow (upper right on the summary screen), enter the details for
the departure and arrival airports. Tapping the Use Current Weather button obtains departure,
arrival, and alternate airport data from the latest METAR.

Note: Be sure to tap both arrival and departure airports at the bottom of the screen to enter
values.

6.1.5.2 Performance Airfield Data Files

The size and download frequency of the Weight & Balance/Performance Airfield Data files have
been cumbersome for the iPad app. These are large files that typically are good for 28 days but
new versions of this file are issued frequently from our Weight & Balance/Performance vendor
(APG). Downloading the latest version of this file is not required if a non-expired version is
already present in the app. However, it is strongly recommended as the new file could contain
important updates pertinent to a flight. An alert appears when a new version is available via a
blue banner in the Weight & Balance/Performance section of the app. Downloading is available
directly from the alert bar.

5
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
IPad Manual Collins Aerospace Proprietary

In the Weight and Balance section of the Download Manager a current version is shown, but a
newer one is available for download. Once downloaded the new data file is replaced the prior
version.

6.1.5.3 Level-Off Altitude and Max Allowable Takeoff Weight

A level-off Altitude (L.O. MSL) is available on the takeoff performance card on the main Weight
& Balance screen. In addition, a max allowable takeoff weight (MATOW) is displayed at the top.

Note: The MATOW is the lesser of the takeoff limit OR the landing limit plus enroute
fuel burn. The purpose of this calculation is to avoid a scenario where the aircraft must
circle the field to burn down to the landing limit.

6

6.1.5.4 Fuel

Asterisks [*] in the Fuel Section indicate if values used are different than values from the flight
plan (see image below).

For Ballast Fuel configured aircraft, the Weight & Balance icon calculates fuel and displays it
in the Fuel section of the Weight & Balance page, as required. It is also displayed on the CG
Plot Details page.

7
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
IPad Manual Collins Aerospace Proprietary

Note: Ballast Fuel values on the website are rounded up to the closest 50 pounds. However,
in the app the exact ballast value required is displayed.

6.1.5.5 Declared Distances and Runway Slope

Declared distances as well as Runway Slope are shown for each runway to assist in the runway
selection process for the Performance Calculator.

8
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
IPad Manual Collins Aerospace Proprietary

Declared distances are used as the basis for all takeoff and landing computations in the
Runway Analysis and Performance functionalities. Declared distances for a runway represent
the maximum distances available and suitable for meeting takeoff and landing distance
performance requirements. These distances are determined in accordance with FAA and other
Civil Aviation Authority runway design standards by adding to the physical length of paved
runway any clearway or stopway and subtracting from that sum any lengths necessary to obtain
the standard runway safety areas, runway object free areas, or runway protection zones.

As a result of these additions and subtractions, the declared distances for a runway may be
more or less than the physical length of the runway as depicted on aeronautical charts and
related publications, or available in electronic navigation databases used for FMS takeoff and
landing computations.
The declared distance available for a particular operation such as landing may be different in
each direction on the same runway pavement.

There are four declared distances used in the system.

1. Takeoff Run Available (TORA) - the runway length declared available and suitable for
satisfying takeoff run requirements. The TORA is measured from the start of takeoff to a
point 200 feet from the beginning of the departure Runway Protection Zone.
2. Takeoff Distance Available (TODA) - this distance comprises the TORA plus the length
of any remaining runway or clearway beyond the far end of the TORA.
3. Accelerate-Stop Distance Available (ASDA) - the runway plus stopway length declared
available and suitable for the acceleration and deceleration of an aircraft that must abort
its takeoff. A stopway is an area beyond the takeoff runway able to support the airplane
during an aborted takeoff, without causing structural damage to the airplane.
4. Landing Distance Available (LDA) - the runway length that is declared available and
suitable for satisfying aircraft landing distance requirements.

Note: The physical length of a runway shown in a Jeppesen chart or other airport diagrams
does not reflect the declared distances for the airport. It is not unusual for the declared

9
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
IPad Manual Collins Aerospace Proprietary

distances shown in the Runway Analysis and Performance functionalities to be different

from the physical runway lengths shown on approach charts and in an FMS database.

6.1.5.6 Emergency Return, Options, and Status Bar

Emergency Return calculations can be selected in the iPad app. All aircraft with Weight &
Balance/Performance enabled in the app can compute Emergency Return data to the departure
airport along with the regular performance calculations.

Use the toggle on the Performance Calculator to Compute Emergency Return and select the
return Runway, ER Flap settings and other ER Options to have these calculations included in
the Release.

Options for the selected runway in the General Inputs area and Emergency Return area (if
selected) is available by tapping the box to choose options for performance.

Additionally, a color-coded status bar at the top of the form indicates if all required data has
been entered.

10
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
IPad Manual Collins Aerospace Proprietary

The status bar also indicates if there are any errors that need to be corrected.

The Emergency Return Results are displayed at the bottom right side of the form.

11
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
IPad Manual Collins Aerospace Proprietary

The results are also shown on the saved release.

6.1.5.7 Performance Results and Limit Results

The weight and balance values are used to compute the performance results and subsequent
takeoff and landing weight limit values for the airport selected. These values are found at the
right side of the Performance Calculator screen (shown below). They are sorted into Results and
Performance Limit Results sections that respectively display the actual results from the currently
selected flight plan and the results corresponding to the derived weight limit.

12
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
IPad Manual Collins Aerospace Proprietary

The results contain items such as V-Speeds, wind components, trim setting (see note below),
computed distances, limit codes, and the respective limit weight depending whether the
departure or arrival airport is selected at the bottom of the screen.

The V-speeds listed consist of the following:

 V1 – Decision (Action) Speed

 VR – Rotation Speed
 V2 – Takeoff Safety Speed
 VFTO – Final Takeoff Speed
 VREF – Reference Landing Speed
 VAPP – Missed Approach Climb Speed. (APG presents this as the missed approach climb
speed for the MAP Gradient vs. the final approach speed.)

13
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
IPad Manual Collins Aerospace Proprietary

Limit codes consist of the following:

Takeoff weight calculations consider the following elements to determine the most limiting
weight:

 CL = Climb Limit Weight – the maximum allowable weight for conditions at takeoff that is
allowed for the aircraft to meet the aircraft certification minimum climb gradients for each
of the takeoff segments. The climb limit is based on reported surface temperature and
airport elevation only.
o Note: The Climb Limit is independent of runway in use or any obstruction/terrain
clearance criteria.
 ST = Structurally Limited – the maximum certified structural weight limit.
 FL = Field Length Limit – the maximum allowable takeoff weight that is allowed for the
aircraft to meet the aircraft certification rules governing the runway’s declared distances,
slope, runway contaminants, airport elevation, and environmental conditions (wind,
temperature, and pressure) This code also covers takeoff distance calculations. Take off
distance is defined as either Accelerate Go or Accelerate Stop, whichever value is more
restrictive. Balanced field lengths are strived for but the calculator unbalances the field to
optimize limit weights if the aircraft data supports unbalanced field takeoff calculations.
 O = Obstacle Limited Weight – the maximum allowable takeoff weight that allows the
aircraft to meet the regulatory authorities’ obstacle clearance requirements considering
aircraft configuration, obstacle height/distance, and environmental conditions.
 BE = Brake Energy Limit – the maximum allowable weight at which the brakes can
absorb the amount of energy (heat) required to stop the aircraft.
 TS = Tire Speed Limit – the maximum allowable weight at which the takeoff speed does
not exceed the tire limit speed.
 FP = Flight Path/Takeoff Thrust/Level-Off Altitude Limited – the maximum weight at
which an aircraft completes those portions of the flight path profile that require takeoff
thrust (beginning of takeoff roll until 4th segment climb) within the takeoff thrust time
limits (determined by airframe and listed in the AFM Limitations section).
 TP = Temperature Limit- when this limit code is displayed the associated limit weight is
commonly 0 as the aircraft is outside of the temperature envelope. The most common
use case for this code is the application of anti-ice options at a temperature that exceeds
the AI limitations.
 TW = Tailwind – when this limit code is displayed it means that the aircraft tailwind
component is exceeded (determined by airframe, a vast majority of aircraft are certified
for no more than 10 knots of tailwind).
 INV = Invalid – this limit code is displayed when there are selections of mutually
exclusive options, or option selections that violate aircraft limitations. An example of
such limitation is some airframes do not allow operations on contaminated runway if the
anti-skid system is inoperative. INV would be displayed if Anti-Skid Inop is selected in
conjunction with one quarter inch (¼”) slush.
 NA =Takeoff is Not Authorized.

14
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
IPad Manual Collins Aerospace Proprietary

Landing weight calculations consider the following elements to determine the most limiting
weight:

 MLW = Maximum Landing Weight – the maximum structural limit.

 CL = Approach Climb Limit Weight – the maximum allowable weight for conditions at
landing that allows the aircraft to meet the aircraft certification minimum climb gradients
in the approach and landing configurations for the airport elevation and temperature.
 FL = Field Length Limit – the maximum allowable landing weight that allows the aircraft
to meet the aircraft certification rules governing the runway’s landing distance available,
slope, runway contaminants, airport elevation, and environmental conditions (wind,
temperature and pressure). This code also covers required landing distance.
 TP = Temperature Limit- when this limit code is displayed the associated limit weight is
commonly 0 as the aircraft is outside of the temperature envelope. The most common
use case for this code is the application of anti-ice options at a temperature that exceeds
the anti-ice limitations.
INV would be displayed in Anti-Skid Inop is selected in
conjunction with one quarter inch (¼”) slush.
 NA = Landing is Not Authorized.

6.1.5.9 Weight & Balance Seat Options

The ability to designate any weight entered in the Seat Map of the weight & balance can be
characterized as Pax (with or without a Lap Child), Crew or Cargo. The default selection is
Pax without Lap Child.

These weight designations are reflected in the Release under the Persons on Board (POB) line
delineating the different seat options entered.

NOTE: The lap child seat option when utilized is not reflected in the persons on board on the
website and is only for the iPad Weight & Balance Release document.

6.1.5.10 Dynamic (Real Time) Curtailment Support

In partnership with APG, the Real Time Curtailment feature provides a curtailed CG envelope
that is calculated based on user-entered inputs (passengers, fuel, and cargo). This
methodology replaces the previous approach of curtailing the aircraft based on a fixed, single
worse-case scenario to account for all use cases. By calculating the curtailment in real time the
resulting calculation is less restrictive than the previous fixed curtailment method unless the
aircraft is actually loaded in the worse-case scenario. The resulting less restrictive CG envelope
provides more freedom of operation, particularly for small cabin aircraft whose CG is sensitive to
passenger movement.

Note: The Real Time Curtailment feature requires additional weight & balance engineering on
the individual aircraft level and is not enabled by default for an aircraft. Please contact your
ARINCDirect account representative or our Weight & balance team
(weight_balance@arinc.com) for additional information about this feature.

With Dynamic Curtailment enabled, there is a choice of three different Crew Movement Modes:

All: The crew can move about the cabin with no offset, usually impacting the aft
envelope as a calculation of a crewmember moving from the flight deck to the aft
lavatory.

Offset: An offset is made for crew movement assuming the rear most seat occupant is
moving to the flight deck as the crewmember moves to the lavatory, thereby partially
offsetting the shift in CG, leading to a less restrictive aft envelope curtailment.

None: There is no allowance for seat movement in the CG.

Per FAA Advisory Circular AC 120-27E, the CG of an aircraft should be calculated in such a
way that the variation of fuel density is taken into account. When the Real Time Curtailment
feature is enabled the required variation calculates the aircraft weight and CG using a min,
standard, and max fuel density value.

6.1.5.11 View Changes

The ability to view the changes made compared to the original is available by tapping or swiping
the curled page in the lower right hand corner.

6.2 View and Save the Release

 Once departure and arrival weather values are entered, tap the arrow on the upper left
corner to return to the summary screen, and then tap View Release on the lower right
hand corner.

 When signing the Release, the ability to quickly add a Date is available on the
Annotation tool. The date can be modified after it is entered, if needed.

Notes:
 The Date feature is not available on the Flight Plan.
 The Quill Pen tool next to Date allows for quick access of a stored Signature.
 When Annotations are placed on a completed Weight & Balance Release and then
saved by tapping Save Release, the annotations are saved on the website version of
the document immediately, provided an Internet connection is available.

If there are errors preventing the release, they are shown (as in the next screen image). Once
the release has been generated, don’t forget to tap Save to ensure it is stored as a leg
document and pushed back to the ARINCDirect website.

6.3 Share Weight & Balance/Performance Releases

Once a Weight & Balance computation (and release) is complete, each iPad with access to the
selected aircraft receives a copy of the parameters used for the calculation, as well as a copy of
the Weight & Balance/Performance release. This document gets stored in the documents
section of the iPad app, and is annotatable, as are all documents. A copy of this release is also
retained on the ARINCDirect website for a maximum of 180 days. The image below shows the
Weight & Balance/Performance release in the leg-documents area.

6.4 Limitations
Because this is a sophisticated capability within our app and the engine that drives the
calculations has been rewritten from the version used on our website, some limitations have
been identified. ARINCDirect is working through these but not all have been resolved.

1. Missing aircraft. There are some aircraft that are Weight & Balance/Performance capable
on the ARINCDirect website, but not yet available in the app. There is a conversion process
that the aircraft data must undergo to be supported in the app, and not all of them have
been completed. If the Weight & Balance icon is grayed out (disabled) in the app, and the
Weight & Balance capability is available on the ARINCDirect website, this aircraft has likely
not yet been converted. It is ARINCDirect’s endeavor to have them all completed as quickly
as possible, but unfortunately, a date cannot yet be provided as to when this effort is to be
completed for any specific aircraft.
2. Missing Baggage areas or Pilot seats – unlike the ARINCDirect website, the iPad app uses
the touch interface to allow the selection of baggage and passenger locations. Sometimes
these locations are not displayed on the image. If this issue is encountered, tap on Aircraft
Items and manually entering the value in the correct location can be substituted. Please
submit Feedback if this occurs, so that ARINCDirect can correct it.

23
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
IPad Manual Collins Aerospace Proprietary

3. Metric Aircraft, Aircraft Zones, and Custom Burn profiles are not yet supported in the app.
Custom Burn aircraft types include LJ31, LJ35, LJ60 and C650.
4. Departure procedures, when defined on the Weight & Balance screen, are not printed on
the “release” document.

7.1 Filing in the App

When filing a flight plan in the app, the iPad retrieves an independent copy of what is stored on
the website, allowing changes, and then submit results back to the website. Because the app
can be used offline, and because changes can be made independently on the website (for
example, pilot on iPad and co-pilot on website), it is important to keep these two sets of data
distinct and then have a window prompt appear to confirm any discrepancies.

If the flight plan has not yet been filed, the iPad retrieves the filing defaults specific to the
customer logged in to the iPad and to the aircraft being filed.

If the flight plan has already been filed, the iPad retrieves all the values used for the filing from
the website. The ability to make any changes to these values is available with the flight plan
submitted as an amended filing.

When entering information on the filing page, the minimum required information for filing is
shown in the top box. If it is filed from this point, all other values are taken from the defaults
configured for the aircraft. This is a quick way to file a flight plan.

If more detail is required, tap on the expand button in the bottom center of the screen,
which displays multiple sections of filing and the values assigned to each. Each section can be
edited by tapping on it, which displays the options associated with it. This expanded information
scrolls vertically.

1
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
iPad Manual Collins Proprietary

Any changes made to the filing are clearly marked in orange, along with an orange banner at
the top, indicating that the changes have not yet be submitted for filing.

At any point, a comparison of changes to the default/original data can be made by lifting the
“curl” at the bottom right corner of the page. The title of the page displayed (Edited Filing,
Original Filing) to easily identify which page is being viewed. To prevent mistakes, all
editing/filing buttons are removed from the Original copy. The curl automatically appears when
the first change is made.

3
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016

If changes are no longer warranted, revert back to the original filing by tapping the Undo All
Changes icon. Once the flight plan is filed, if there is an internet connection, the flight plan is
submitted to the website and the iPad receives an update on the status (pending, filed, etc.).

The filing status Submitted is available on the iPad but not on the Website. This status
indicates that the iPad has sent the filing message to the website and is awaiting a response.
Once the website confirms the flight plan filing is accepted the status changes to Pending or
Filed, as appropriate.

To cancel a flight plan, tap the Cancel Filing icon in the lower left corner of the filing page.

Tapping the File button displays any errors that would prevent a filing.

The button to the left of the file button will reveal the ICAO filing form, already
completed with the information provided on the filing page. The ICAO form is created
4
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
iPad Manual Collins Proprietary

automatically on the iPad, even if it is not being submitted for filing with ARINCDirect. The ICAO
flight plan can be emailed and sent to other programs. The ICAO filing form is annotatable on
the iPad.

7.2 Updating an ETD

If a flight plan has been computed with one ETD and then updated for a different ETD, an option
to Recompute the flight plan with the updated ETD is available. To Recompute the Flight Plan
with an updated ETD, select File and update Flight Plan ETD when prompted.

If selecting Just File you still have the option to Recompute the Flight Plan for the new ETD
using the Flight Checklist which prompts a Recompute.

The Recompute function of the flight plan displays a slot-style date and time window prompting
the flight plan calculation to match the time in the filing. Selecting Update initiates the
recalculation to correspond to the filing time (see image below).

5

7.3 Filing Confirmations

The app always includes the default filing confirmation email for the username that is logged in.
Additional confirmation addresses (email addresses or tail number for uplink) can be added.

7.4 RVR Filing Field

On flights conducted entirely within CFMU Airspace, an optional RVR (Runway Visual Range)
field is available when filing the flight plan. Populating this field helps reduce delays when
operating in EU airspace. The field is located in the Leg Information section and is accessed
by tapping the More Cells icon in the bottom center of the initial Filing screen (see image
below).

6
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016

7.5 FlightRisk Assessment

If a FlightRisk Assessment was originally computed with the flight plan, an updated version is
computed when filing from the app.

7.6 Support EDCT/CTOT and PDC Notifications in Filing

In addition to Filing Confirmations, EDCT/CTOT and PDC Notifications can be configured
when Filing from the app.

7
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
iPad Manual Collins Proprietary

NOTE: Crews on aircraft that are not datalink equipped can receive PDC via the ARINCDirect
iPad app. This is NOT PDC to email.

To get PDC delivered to the iPad:

1. The flight plan MUST have been created and filed using an ARINCDirect account. If the
flight plan is filed through any other flight plan service provider, there is not an associated
leg in the iPad for that flight and no way to get the PDC. However, ATC will still issue a
PDC for the flight, so there may be cases where the tower admonishes a crew for calling
for a voice clearance when they have already issued a PDC.

2. The crew MUST have a live connection after the PDC is issued by ATC (typically no
sooner than 35 minutes prior to proposed departure).

3. If the flight plan is filed with a Flight ID that is mapped to ANY tail in the customer’s
ARINCDirect account, a PDC for that flight will not be received on their iPad.

If PDC is enabled (either via data link or to the iPad) a flight department is agreeing to receive
digital PDCs for the vast majority of the flights. If a regular call for a voice clearance is made
when marked as PDC capable, it is very likely the crew can be questioned by ATC.

Customers SHOULD NOT sign up for this service unless there is least one iPad in the aircraft
and they are capable of a live link with the iPad near departure time.

ARINCDirect updates the FAA PDC Capable Aircraft list on an as needed basis and the PDC
can be available shortly after the list has been updated.

The aircraft registration number cannot be changed on a filing from within the app. This must be
accomplished either on the website or by contacting an ARINCDirect Flight Coordinator.

9.1 SmartNOTAMs
Skyguide, the Swiss Air Navigation Services Provider, runs, develops, and maintains the air
traffic management system for all civil and military operations in Switzerland. A skyguide
SmartNOTAM addresses formatting and content issues and allows for customized NOTAM
filtering.

ARINCDirect has partnered with Skyguide for their SmartNOTAM product, screening for the
following features:

 Replacement of full text with proper ICAO abbreviations, where applicable

 Shorter, more concise text for better readability and highlighting of keywords
 Machine readable time schedule for time-based filtering
 Completed qualifier line for a more efficient filtering
 Correct Q Codes for better qualification, filtering, and sorting

To generate a SmartNOTAM, skyguide ingests NOTAMs from their originating source (e.g.,
NOTAM offices, the European Aeronautical Database, etc.) and automatically process the
original NOTAM. One of its NOTAM Specialists inspects the content of the NOTAM, corrects
any errors/unprocessed values in the qualifier line (including Q codes), and re-evaluates and re‐
edits the NOTAM text, if needed. Where necessary, the content of the processed NOTAM is
clarified and/or verified by reviewing applicable AIPs or through communications with the
originating agency.

The SmartNOTAM process is ISO9001-2000 certified and meets ICAO NOTAM Selection
Criteria DOC8126, EUROCONTROL, and Swiss national requirements.

9.2 Leg SmartNOTAM Brief

ARINCDirect has integrated skyguide SmartNOTAMs into the application within the NOTAMs
tab on the left hand side navigation bar just below the weather icon.

NOTE: skyguide does not currently have 100 percent of the world converted to the
SmartNOTAM format. They are working to make their coverage complete, but in the few

geographical areas where they do not yet have SmartNOTAMs, they provide the raw NOTAM
data.

A Leg NOTAM briefing is automatically generated relevant to the leg currently selected.
Keywords are highlighted and by default will include Airport NOTAMs for leg airports, FDC,
GPS and full en route FIR NOTAM briefs. If applicable, SNOWTAM/ASHTAM, Military and
Security NOTAMs are included. The icons on the right hand side quickly navigate to the
NOTAM category desired.

9.3 Filters
The ability to apply filters is available to Leg NOTAM brief to assist in narrowing the list of
NOTAMs to only those relevant to a flight.

2
ARINCDirect Initial Issue: October 2016
iPad Manual Collins Proprietary

The types of filters available for a leg NOTAM brief include:

 Airport
 FIR
 Start/End date and time of the NOTAM effective date
 Q Code
o NOTAMs get assigned a Q Code category [e.g. Airspace Organization (A),
Lighting (L), etc.]. Using these filters allows one to focus on specific categories.
 Military
 Security

12.6 Expired Charts

The application displays a blue warning message (Charts Expired!) if the Map chart type
selected is out of date.

NOTE: The iPad can be configured to automatically download the latest charts over WiFi or
Mobile via the Download Manager. See iPad Manual Section 2 – Settings under Download
Manager for more information regarding automatically downloading charts.

12.7 Hazard Alerting

The website Hazard Alerting feature is also available in the application. By default, a flight plan
is actively monitored for hazards 3-hours prior to scheduled departure time. This 3-hour period
is configurable through the website on a per-aircraft basis using the Configurations page under
the Manage Alerts tab.

Filed flight plans in the app depict a list of Hazard Alerts along the right side of the screen.
Tapping an alert from the Hazards list highlights the corresponding route segments in blue. As
an alternative, if any segment along the route is tapped, it is highlighted in blue and the Hazards
listings, indicating the type of hazard that exists along that segment. The forecasted weather is
also displayed when the segment is selected.

NOTES:
 When viewing Hazards, Layers are disabled and vice versa to help declutter the Map.
Tap the Hazards icon to toggle on/off.
 The Turbulence, Icing, and Thunderstorm layers available on the website only show
on the iPad when an alert exists.

Hazards are only displayed when the flight is actively monitored in the application. When
hazards are not being monitored for a flight (i.e. it is too early prior to ETD), a warning appears if
the Hazards button is selected.

update automatically along with the weather (see image below).

12.9 Full Screen Mode

A Full Screen symbol is available in the upper right hand corner of the application that will
eliminate the top and left bars of the screen, allowing for a fuller view of the map. To return,

12.10 Location Services

The iPad application has a location feature that is activated by the GPS satellites similar to the
“Find My iPhone” tracking services. When location services are enabled in the Settings menu,
a small grey arrow appears near the left side of the bottom of the screen on the Map. When
tapped, the arrow turns blue and an airplane image centers on the map, showing the location of
the iPad.
