The theory of Malthus expounds on the concept that if there are no positive or preventive
checks employed, the population problem of the world would balloon up to a point where the
linear growth of food production can no longer keep up and thus would result to starvation,
mass extinction, wars or other natural calamities that would provide the culling that the world
needs in order to restore its balance to a more sustainable level. Such theory, with a current
population of over 7.8 billion people calling this world home, is now more than ever being
debated of soon coming to fruition or if we can continue the technological advances in
production of food and agriculture to sustain the ever expanding populace. On a more recent
note, the current pandemic may find a placement on the Malthusian theory as a positive check
according to such theory if it is not stopped soon.
