Plan a Vacation Communicative Activity 
 
Skill: ​Future tense “Will” 
 
Purpose: 
➢ This lesson is intended to serve as a communicative activity for students to 
practice using the future tense and to have an opportunity to produce English 
verbally 
➢ It enables them to first work with partners to get their ideas together and 
then to both answer questions and ask questions with another pair of 
students  
 
Materials Needed: 
➢ Printed worksheets of the pdf for each student  
○ Brainstorming sheet  
○ Interview questions sheet  
○ Translation sheets  
➢ One interview question example sheet for teacher 
➢ Writing utensils for students 
 
Lesson Plan Breakdown: 
1. Refresh students’ memory on what we use when talking about the future 
tense.  
2. Break students into pairs or groups of three 
a. Pairs tends to work best  
3. Give students the vacation planning worksheet and translated version 
4. Introduce the activity 
a. Tell students to imagine that they can go on any vacation they want and 
to plan where they would go using the worksheet questions with a 
partner. 
i. Emphasize that they and their partner are planning it together 
and should be going on the same vacation 
5. Model how to fill out the worksheet on the board  
a. Provide an example for how you the teacher would finish off each 
sentence starter in each of the boxes so they understand how to fill 
each out 
6. Before students begin to discuss with their partners -- tell them that later 
they will be answering another pair’s questions about their invention (so they 
are aware)  
a. Give them about 5-10 minutes to discuss 
7. Pass out the interview questions worksheet and the translated version 
8. Creation of interview questions (can be done 2 ways) 
→ ​# of questions dependent on time limitation and size of class 
-- determine which way to go about it based on skill level of students 
a. Have students work individually with partner to come up with 
questions to ask another pair about their invention 
b. Brainstorm possible questions as a class and have partners choose 
their favorites to write down  
9. Take turns having one set of partners interview another with the questions  
a. Ensure every pair both gets a chance to ask and answer  
b. Have 4 chairs set up in front of the room or have students stand facing 
each other for the interview and instruct everyone else to listen 
c. Do a round of applause after each interview (it motivates students to 
want to speak)
