Impacts of global warming in

bangladesh

Bangladesh is recognized worldwide as one of the most vulnerable

countries to the impacts of global warming and climate change. This is
due to its unique geographic location, dominance of floodplains, low
elevation from the sea, high population density, high levels of
poverty, and overwhelming dependence on nature, its resources and
services. The country has a history of extreme climatic events
claiming millions of lives and destroying past development gains.

The WMO Statement on the State of the Global Climate in 2018, its
25th anniversary edition, highlights climate risks, extreme events and
related impacts over the past four years. In this figure1; 2+ million
people over the world displaced by weather and disaster.1600+
people died because of heatwaves and wildfire.35+ million people all
over the world affected floods. This is a short scenario of impacts of
global warming.

This line graph shows that the global average surface temperature
change in 1986–2005 is similar for the four RCPs and will likely be in
the range 0.3°C to 0.7°C (medium confidence). This assumes that
there will be no major volcanic eruptions or changes in some natural
sources. Relative to 1850–1900, global surface temperature change
for the end of the 21st century (2081–2100) is projected to likely
exceed 1.5°C for RCP4.5, RCP6.0 and RCP8.5 (high confidence).
Warming is likely to exceed 2°C for RCP6.0 and RCP8.5 (high
confidence), more likely than not to exceed 2°C for RCP4.5 (medium
confidence), but unlikely to exceed 2°C for RCP2.6 (medium
confidence). Surface temperature is projected to rise over the 21st
century under all assessed emission scenarios. It is very likely that
heat waves will occur more often and last longer, and that extreme
precipitation events will become more intense and frequent in many
regions.

In figure3; the table shows the impacts of climate change on different

districts in Bangladesh also the fall in living standard in divisions. The
projected increasing temperature is 2.5 in 2050.Recently hill districts
are selected for the new hotspots. Some districts like Barishal ,Dhaka,
chattogram are marked as worst affected area.it also shows the
falling living standard districts. Cox’s bazar is on the top of the list. Its
falling standard is 20.2%.Satkhira is last in the list. Its falling standard
is 11.5%.
A major concern for Bangladesh are climate change victims who are
increasing in number every day and must seek refuge due to loss of
their homes, land, settlement to river erosion, coastal erosion, and
permanent inundation.
