called severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2; formerly called 2019-
nCoV), which was first identified amid an outbreak of respiratory illness cases in Wuhan City,
Hubei Province, China. [1] It was initially reported to the WHO on December 31, 2019. On
January 30, 2020, the WHO declared the COVID-19 outbreak a global health emergency. [2, 3] On
March 11, 2020, the WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic, its first such designation
since declaring H1N1 influenza a pandemic in 2009. [4]
Illness caused by SARS-CoV-2 was termed COVID-19 by the WHO, the acronym derived from
"coronavirus disease 2019. " The name was chosen to avoid stigmatizing the virus's origins in
terms of populations, geography, or animal associations

The COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia is part of the ongoing worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease
2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It was
confirmed to have spread to Indonesia on 2 March 2020, after a dance instructor and her mother tested
positive for the virus. Both were infected from a Japanese national
As of 3 July, Indonesia has reported 60,695 cases, the highest in Southeast Asia, overtaking Singapore
since 17 Ju1ne. In terms of death numbers, Indonesia ranks sixth in Asia with 3,036 deaths.[4] Review of
data, however, indicated that the number of deaths may be much higher than what has been reported
as those who died with acute COVID-19 symptoms but had not been confirmed or tested were not
counted in the official death figure
Standard recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19 include frequent cleaning of hands using
alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water; covering the nose and mouth with a flexed elbow or
disposable tissue when coughing and sneezing; and avoiding close contact with anyone that has a fever
and cough.
