* If you’re having trouble getting a good internet connection

you can use a mobile router or turn your smartphone into a
mobile hotspot. Get one or two phones with a good data con-
nection and let those work as a portable wifi hotspot. More
info on how to set up a mobile hotspot can be found online.
3. Start of a workshop: introduction
As an introduction it helps to show the Lomap website at the beginning of the workshop. We recom-
mend using a computer with a big monitor or a projector for this. This way participants can have a look at
the area they’re about to ‘lomap’ (click on LomoMap) and you can already have a look at the symbols
that are used in Lomap (see under). Also for showing the uploaded pictures when you return from your
walk, a projection is a good way to show the results and start a discussion.

Structure of a typical Lomap workshop

1. introduction (explanation) - 30min
2. installing the app and registration - 15min
3. walking through the neighbourhood - ...
TIP 4. upload + discussion - 30min
When explaining the symbols you can already ask the partici-
pants what their opinion is about some of these subjects (e.g.
“nature and environment”, “mobility”...) for this particular
neighbourhood. Even if they haven’t been there before, they
might already have some preconceived ideas about it... For small children(8-12 yo), you might want to
use one or more introductory methods. Through
these methods they can get to know the app and
(especially) the used icons in a playful way. You

Before taking a photo with Lomap you’ll first need to

select one of the five emoticons at the bottom of the ‘live
camera view’ screen. To choose an emoticon, you first need
to reflect on how you feel about the subject you’re about
to photograph. If you feel very negative, choose the red
emoticon, purple for negative, blue for neutral, lightblue for
positive and green for very positive.

6. Uploading pictures and group discussion
After the walk you should return to a place where there is a WIFI connection to upload the photos to the
website. We recommend to do this on a big screen. This way the entire group can see the uploaded pictu-
res appearing on the screen. Ask every particpant to upload their photos individually, this gives the
participants the opportunity to reflect on why they want to share each particular picture.

Pictures should be uploaded one at a time.

You do this by going to the startscreen and tapping

Next tap on your photos to select them. ! ! !

been uploaded, you

During the uploading process you can see the pictures appear live on screen. You can just visit the
main website (no need to log in), click on projects and select your project. Here you can choose to see the
Project Map or the Project Wall. Select one of the two modes and you’ll see the pictures appearing on
either your map or your wall. Refresh this page regularly in order to see new pictures appear. You can
then switch to the other mode (map/wall) in order to have a different view on the pictures that were taken.
