Assignment # 2
Current scenario of Pakistan Film Industry
Pakistan film industry is reviving in quite productive manner. Most of the
feature films shot in Pakistan are in Urdu, the national language of Pakistan, but
may also include films in English, the official language, and regional languages
such as Punjabi, Sindhi, Balochi and Pashto. Lahore was the epicentre of Pakistani
film industry - Lollywood.

There are many people whom efforts are involved in productivity of Pakistan film
industry. Shoaib mansoor, Sarmad Sultan, Bilal Lashari. Shoman Productions
is a Pakistani media production company which was founded in 1980 by Shoaib
Mansoor. Company produces motion pictures, television serials and music videos.
In 2007, Shoaib Mansoor debuted as a film director with the critically acclaimed
film, Khuda Ke Liye released on 20 July 2007 all over Pakistan. It received the
Silver Pyramid Award from the Cairo International Film Festival for 2007. His
film Bol (2011) was awarded the Best Hindi film award in IRDS Film awards 2011
by Institute for Research and Documentation in Social Sciences (IRDS), a
Lucknow-based civil society for raising many social issues including the regressive
attitude of a male-dominated society. He has also won Lux Style Award, Roberto
Rossellini Award, and London Asian Film Festival and was nominated for Asia
Pacific Screen Awards, His third film Verna was released worldwide on 17
November 2017, and was distributed by Hum Films and Eveready Pictures. We
have produced a film like cake that grabbed us international attention and awards
as well.

2015 has been a phenomenal year for Pakistani cinema, with new wave films
such as Shah, Moor and Karachi Se Lahore making it to the grand stage. Sarmad
Sultan Khoosat’s Manto is another avant-garde production, showcasing the diverse
social themes that Pakistani directors have started to experiment with in recent
times. Despite having to pursue this multi-talented (and understandably busy)
individual for days via texts and phone calls, Sarmad Khoosat made the chase
worthwhile for me. He had some fascinating stories to share which ultimately led
him to consider Manto as a doable project. Pakistan has suspended the release of
an award-winning film, after an Islamist political party objected to its portrayal of
a struggling cleric. The party said the film "might lead [people] to deviate from
Islam and the prophet", with officials warning screening it could lead to unrest.
Zindagi Tamasha (Circus of Life) is about a man shunned after a video of him
dancing at a wedding goes viral. The film's director Sarmad Khoosat said he never
intended to offend anyone.

Bilal Lashari is a Pakistani film director, cinematographer, screenwriter and

occasional actor. He made his directorial debut film in Waar (2013), which holds
the record of being the seventh highest-grossing Pakistani film. His next project is
a remake of the 1979 film Maula Jatt. The film is titled The Legend of Maula Jatt,
The Legend of Maula Jatt whose trailer was released on December 21, 2018.
Lashari won awards in four categories at the ARY Film Awards 2014 for his
directorial debut.

Hence, there are many personalities, directors which work and play a leading
role in the Pakistan film industry.
