The American Society of Comparative Law, Inc.
The purpose of the Society, formerly The American Association for the Comparative Study of
Law, Inc., incorporated in New York in 1951, "is to promote the comparative study of law and the
understanding of foreign legal systems; to establish, maintain and publish without profit a com
parative law journal; and to provide for research and the publication without profit of writings,
books, papers and pamphlets relating to comparative, foreign or private international law." A non
profit corporation, the Society is prepared to receive gifts not only for the Journal but also for its
other objectives.
The active co-operation of all interested in activities that tend to foster good relations abroad is
solicited. Applications for membership are welcome not only as a means to support the American
Journal of Comparative Law but also to promote research and publication as contemplated in the
Charter of the Society. In addition to sponsor memberships, any individual, law firm, corporation,
or association may be elected a sustaining member.
The present officers of the Society are: Acting President: David J. Gerber; Secretary:
Franklin Gervurtz; Treasurer: Richard S. Kay; Honorary President: John C. Reitz.
