Routing Mode
When the unit is powered up, it is in Routing Mode. This is indicated by the
extinguished unlabelled Enable button. In the Routing Mode, the numbered and
Set Tally buttons enable or disable the deck ports for control.
The GangWay4 has 5 illuminated switches on the front panel to set and indicate the
routing configuration of the GangWay4.
1-4
These numbered switches allow the user to enable a slave device connected to
the corresponding numbered port on the rear panel. This allows commands
from the controller port to be routed to the selected numbered port(s).
A button illuminates when the port is selected for control and tally.
A button flashes when the port is selected for control only.
A button is extinguished when the port is not selected.
Set Tally
The Set Tally switch allows you to route Tally messages (device status and
responses) back to the controller. Pressing this button allows you to use the
numbered buttons to select the slave device that returns tally messages back to
the controller. Only one slave device at a time can return tally back to the
controller.
The Set Tally button illuminates to indicate that a numbered button can be
pressed to select the Tally function. Only one deck can be selected for Tally.

Transport Mode
When the unlabelled Enable button is pressed, it is in Transport Mode. This is
indicated by the illuminated unlabelled Enable button. In the Transport Mode, the
numbered and Set Tally buttons allow basic transport commands to be sent to the
selected decks.
Rewind, F-Fwd
Pressing these buttons causes the GangWay4 to send the Rewind or Fast
Forward command. These buttons illuminate when the video device reports
back that it is in the Rewind or Fast Forward mode.
Stop
Pressing this button causes the GangWay4 to send the Stop command. This
button illuminates when the video device reports back that it is stopped.
Play
Pressing this button causes the GangWay4 to send the Play command. This
button illuminates when the video device reports back that it is in the Play mode.
Record
Holding this button while pressing the Play button causes the GangWay4 to
send the Crash Record command. This button illuminates when the video
device reports back that it is in the Record mode.

General Purpose Interface
GPI Inputs
The GangWay4 has 4 GPI inputs.
The inputs can be used to remotely set the deck selection or trigger transport
commands. This is selected by the unlabelled Select button.
The pins are a CMOS input. The input signal must be limited to between 0 and 5
volts referenced to ground. This input is pulled up to +5 volts with an internal pullup
resistor. This makes it compatible with dry relay contacts, optoisolators and open
collector outputs.
The GPI Inputs mirror the function of the front panel switches 1-4. The function of
each GPI Inputs is shown in the diagram below. The maximum voltage on the GPI
pins is +5 volts.

GPI Outputs
The GangWay4 has 4 GPI outputs.
The outputs reflect the state of the deck selection. The outputs are active low.
That is when a deck is selected, the corresponding output is zero volts. Conversely,
when a deck is not selected, the corresponding output is +5 volts.
These pins are a CMOS outputs. The outputs must be limited to between 0 and 5
volts referenced to ground. The maximum voltage on the GPI pins is +5 volts.

Power
The GangWay4 requires a 9-12 volt DC power supply capable of delivering 500
milliamps or more. This can be either from the power mains using the provided
power supply or directly from 9-12 volts DC. The connector is a 2.1mm coaxial
power connector. The center pin is positive. A power switch on the front panel
turns the GangWay4 on or off.

The GangWay4 comes with a power supply that is appropriate for most countries in
which the GangWay4 is sold. If you need a power supply specific to your location,
please contact your local distributor or JLCooper Electronics.

If the power supply is damaged or lost, it can be ordered from JLCooper Electronics
directly. The JLCooper Part number is 561036.

Caring For Your GangWay4

If properly cared for, your GangWay4 should provide years of trouble free
performance. While the GangWay4 is built in a rugged enclosure, please avoid
dropping the GangWay4.
Clean with a soft, damp cloth. Do not allow liquids, dust or other foreign matter to
get inside the GangWay4.

Service
There are no user-serviceable parts in the GangWay4. Please refer to the JLCooper
Electronics Limited Factory Warranty on the following page for detailed warranty
and service information.

Troubleshooting
If for some reason the GangWay4 does not give you the expected results, take a
moment to do some investigating. The most important concept is that you have
your GangWay4 connected properly as outlined in Installation and Use. Take a
moment to double check your setup.
A common problem is forgetting to turn the power switch on or turning the
GangWay4 on after the software application has launched.
In addition, the JLCooper website (www.jlcooper.com) will contain up to date
information on applications and troubleshooting.
If all else fails, you can contact the JLCooper Service Department at:
