∫ cos 3 x dx=¿

First acceptable guess is

sin x cos 2 x
Since the diff of sin x cos 2 x is

cos 3 x−2 sin2 x cos x

Now we must cancel the second term i.e. −2 sin2 x cos x

Thus, we will use + ∫ sin 2 x cos x dx . This an easy task

Integration by substitution will solve this

Take u=sin x .. then du= cos x dx

∫ sin 2 x cos x dx=∫ u 2 du = u3/3 = sin3 x/3.

Combining this with the above equation

3 2 sin 3 x
∫ cos x dx=sin x cos x+ 2 3
.

For ∫ cos 3 x dx=¿ we will follow the same steps staring from −cos x sin 2 x

And then find ∫ sin 2 x cos x dx

3
Which will give cos x /3
