Reflection

In this essay I am going to write my personal reflection on what I have learnt while compiling
information for this portfolio. This will include some assessment of my personal learning style
and strengths and weaknesses, and the strategy I intend to adopt for future essay writing.
In order to locate, retrieve and compile the relevant information for this subject matter, I had to
use relevant search engines and several web browsers to find information. To widen my pool of
information, I also used synonyms to play around with the original subject to find similar or
related information for example, instead of professional writing, you could try similar phrases
such as professional communication. This really expands your search results, giving you a lot
more options to choose from.

I found that the balance careers writing tips returned the best quality results. The search engines
also suggested other relevant articles based on bibliographies from articles I had already found.
These suggestions helped me explore deeper into professional writing. Moreover, online PDF’s
enabled me to search keywords within papers to quickly navigate through the stacks of
information and find the evidence that I needed.

Whenever doing research, one must consider the validity of the data and the reliability of the
source and you have to be mindful of authors’ motivations. To ensure that I was using credible
information, I had to check that I was getting peer-reviewed data. Database searches returned
articles from reliable and well-known journals whose articles had citations to support their
content. One exception was an article I found through a Google search. The article provided
basic information which was consistent with peer-reviewed articles. Thus, I deemed this source
trustworthy.

This assignment was a learning experience. I became very familiar with the use of the library’s
resources and made use of many different tools to find information. I also learned a great deal
about professional writing, and it inspired an interest in research I did not have before.
