Adapting to changes influenced by external and internal environmental factors is an arduous task.

Especially for an organization which aims to establish its trademark in the competitive world. These
changes influence the organization culture which could ultimately affect the management effectiveness.
Failing to respond to the changes effectively would rise an infinity number of questions on the
organization mission, purpose and individual’s vulnerability and confidence to succeed.

The external influences like technological, economic, political, social could show effect on internal
environmental and competitive. The leadership should be vigilant to detect this signal and make
necessary change in the organization. Leaders should play a key role in bringing the changes in the
organization with a strong corporate culture deeply embedded with values and may not support
ongoing and overlapping changes.

On this note, I would like to discuss about what external organizational challenges faced by one of the
world’s leading high voltage supplier company. Spellman High voltage power supply company is gaining
worldwide customers from past few decades. Being one and only supplier of precise custom-made high
voltage supplies took advantage on the market and supplies around 80% of high voltage power products
all over Europe and America. Due to advancement in the latest technology (external environmental
factor) and the recession in 2009, the company had faced a heavy competition in the high voltage
technology for few years in 2000’s and had a deep effect on company sales resulted in layoff of hundred
of employees. The market situation had demanded for the changes which influenced the effectiveness
of the organization and had to come up reorganizing the structure. The management succeeded in
gaining control over internal environmental by bringing a new work culture which eliminated the
insecurity in the employees. By shifting to the cutting-edge technology all the company to regain its
market value.

In order to regain the company’s product market and to gain control over the market competition, I
would have worked to adopt to the changes. Changes are inevitable, and they are reasons for progress.
Most of the time the organizations have no control over the external environmental factor but could
control the internal environmental factors by bringing new work culture. As a leader, I would be vigilant
on ongoing and non-negotiable activities.
