Bain & Company – India

Dear Sir/Madam

I realised soon after coming into IIT that consulting would be an exciting career option for me. It seemed
to me, one of the rare jobs where I would be required to use with equal measure, the left as well as the
right half of my brain. Three years down the line, I have also come to believe that I have developed a
strong set of skills that will help me to fit into a consultant’s shoes.

Soon after coming to IIT Delhi, I fell in love with my college, especially with the exciting world of co-
curricular activities that thrives here. Three things attracted me the most. Debating was one, identifying
the root cause of real life problems and developing solutions from scratch was very interesting. And the
fact that I actually got an opportunity to debate at international events and won national level debates was
a bonus! The second thing which excited me was getting to be part of different professional and college
theatre groups. The reason I enjoyed it was simple. I saw that each time I did a new play; I could actually
work with a different group of smart and fun-loving people, learn from them and make some long lasting
friendships. But, the experience I cherished most was of working in various student bodies, sometimes as
a passionate soldier and at other times as a leader. Transforming a club (which was on the verge of getting
scrapped) into one of the most popular hub of activities on-campus, initiating the biggest Hindi Debating
festival in the country, radically changing the way events are organised during North India’s biggest
student festival as well as leading my hostel to the best hostel and cultural trophies are few of the goals I
set for myself – and managed to achieve in past three years. These experiences have helped me
understand that there can be nothing as exhilarating and as gratifying as to be able to create demonstrable
impact in organizations which matter to people. I believe that being a generalist more than a specialist,
consulting is the best career path for me. It is also perhaps the only path, where all the skills that I have
developed thus far will find ways to be relevant and will not come to waste.

Now, after attending many pre-placement talks and interacting with employees of almost all top-notch
consulting firms visiting campus, one thing became clear to me. Bain & Company is different and that too
for a good reason! The emphasis laid here on enjoying work life, building strong interpersonal relations
with colleagues and having fun are a testimony to the fact that the firm really values its employees.
Moreover, the fact that Bain India is a relatively new setup where if given a chance to work, I will be set
on a thrilling journey of growing with the firm and not merely in the firm makes it just the kind of
company I have been dreaming for… I hope that you will give me a chance to work with and contribute
to the continuing success of Bain & Company.

Eagerly awaiting your response,

Yours Sincerely,

Ravindra Pareek
