BANKING
 ICICI Bank launches banking services on WhatsApp.
 Amidst the ongoing coronavirus pandemic BharatPe has partnered with ICICI Lombard to
roll out 'COVID-19 Protection Insurance Cover' for shopkeepers.
 The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed an agreement to lend up to $60 million
in Indian rupee equivalent to Aavas Financiers Limited, a housing finance company in
India, to improve access to housing finance for lower-income borrowers in the country,
particularly women.
 Interest rates on various small savings schemes have been cut by between 70 basis
points and 140 basis points (100 basis points = 1 per cent).
 Ways and Means Advance (WMA) Limit (ceiling on its temporary loan facility with RBI)
has been raised to Rs 1.2 lakh crore from Rs 75,000 crore, (60 percent increase).

 RBI to slap 200 bps penal interest on banks if failed to invest TLTRO funds within 30 days.
 According to the RBI,The government will issue Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGBs) in six
tranches beginning April 20. Sovereign Gold Bond 2020-21 will be issued by Reserve Bank
India on behalf of the Government of India.
 State Bank of India will waive service charges for all ATM transactions made on SBI ATMs
as well as other bank ATMs.

 NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg has appointed a group of experts to study ways to further
strengthen the political dimension of the alliance.
 Members of the group include Anna Fotyga from Poland, Greta Bossenmaier from
Canada, Anja Dalgaard-Nielsen from Denmark, Hubert Vedrine from France, Thomas de
Maizière from Germany, Marta Dassu from Italy, Herna Verhagen from the

 According to World Bank about 11 mn could be driven into poverty in East Asia and
Pacific.
 Growth in the developing East Asia and Pacific has projected to slow to 2.1 percent in
the baseline and to negative 0.5 percent in the lower-case scenario in 2020, from an
estimated 5.8 percent in 2019.
 Growth in China is projected to decline to 2.3 percent in the baseline and 0.1 percent in
the lower-case scenario in 2020, from 6.1 percent in 2019.
 The World Bank has approved a fast-track $1 billion India COVID-19 Emergency
Response and Health Systems Preparedness Project to help India.
 The World Bank Group is rolling out a $14 billion fast-track package to strengthen the
COVID-19 response in developing countries and shorten the time to recovery.
 The United Nations General Assembly has unanimously adopted a resolution, co-
sponsored by 188 nations including India, on COVID-19, calling for intensified
international cooperation to defeat the pandemic that is causing severe disruption to
societies and economies.
 The resolution titled Global solidarity to fight the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)'
was the first such document on the global pandemic to be adopted by the world
organization.
 The resolution was sponsored by Ghana, Indonesia, Liechtenstein, Norway, Singapore
and Switzerland.
 According to UN trade report, the world economy will go into recession this year with a
predicted loss of trillions of dollars of global income due to the coronavirus pandemic,
spelling serious trouble for developing countries with the likely exception of India and
China.
 According to the new analysis from United Nations Conference on Trade and
Development (UNCTAD), the UN trade and development body titled 'The COVID-19
Shock to Developing Countries: Towards a 'whatever it takes' programme for the two-

 The US government, through its aid agency US Agency for International Development

 According to the UN's labour organization, About 400 million people working in the

quarter of this year.
 According to the report, 1.25 billion workers are employed in the sectors identified as

 The United Nations released $2.5 million from its emergency humanitarian fund to help

coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic to $20 billion from $6.5 billion initially and

 Lebanon has become the first Arab country to legalise cannabis farming for medical and
industrial purposes- a move that could generate lucrative exports and foreign currency
as the country struggles to cope with a financial crisis.

 The Global Report on Food Crisis warns that global hunger could become the next big
impact of the pandemic. It is published by the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation,
the World Food Programme, and 14 other organizations.
 Dr. Arif Husain, chief economist at the World Food Programme states that COVID-19 is
potentially catastrophic for millions who are already hanging by a thread. By the end of
this year, about 265 million people around the world are forecast to be facing acute food
insecurity. It is a double of the 130 million estimated to suffer severe food shortages last
year.
 The 193 members of the UN General Assembly has adopted by consensus a resolution
that calls for "equitable, efficient and timely" access to any future vaccines developed to
fight coronavirus.
 The resolution also highlights the "crucial leading role" played by the World Health
Organization.
 India's largest software services firm Tata Consultancy Services (TCSNSE 0.99 %) will
launch Israel's first fully digital bank.
 The digital bank yet to be named and is the first to receive a banking license in Israel in
over 40 years and is to be launched in 2021.

 The Extraordinary G20 Trade & Investment Ministerial Virtual Meeting, commerce and
industry minister Piyush Goyal insisted that members uphold their multilateral
commitments and work on a global framework to enhance affordable access to
medicines for fighting pandemics and facilitating easier movement of health
professionals across national borders.

 Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) introduced ‘Companies Fresh Start Scheme 2020
and revised ‘Limited Liability Partnerships (LLP) Settlement Scheme, 2020’ to provide
relief to law abiding companies and LLPs in the wake of COVID 19.
 The Government has extended the benefit of two percent Interest Subvention to Banks
and three percent Prompt Repayment Incentive to all farmers upto 31st of May.
 The interest subsidy has been extended to all crop loans upto 3 lakh rupees given by
banks which have become due or are becoming due between 1st April to 31st May 2020
 The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, with an aim to extend support to the
foreign tourists who are stranded in India, has come up with a portal to disseminate
information regarding the services that can be availed by foreign tourists who are stuck
far away from their home land.
 The portal is titled ‘Stranded in India’ and aims to act as a support network for foreign
tourists stuck in various parts of the country.
 The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has set up a dedicated Twitter handle for
sharing news and updates about the novel coronavirus. The account is named
#IndiaFightsCorona and uses the handle @CovidnewsbyMIB.
 The Union Commerce and Industry Ministry has announced changes in the Foreign
Trade Policy (FTP) of Government of India. The present Policy which came into force on
1st April, 2015, is for 5 years and has validity upto 31st March, 2020.
 In view of the unprecedented current situation arising out of the pandemic Novel COVID-
19, the Govt. has decided to continue relief under various export promotion schemes by
granting extension of the existing Foreign Trade Policy by another one year i.e. up to
31st March, 2021.
 Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions
launched DARPG’s National Monitoring Dashboard on COVID 19 Grievances.
 The National Monitoring Dashboard was developed and implemented at
https://darpg.gov.in where COVID 19 related grievances received in CPGRAMS with all
Ministries/ Departments and States/ Union Territories are monitored on priority basis by
a technical team of DARPG.
 Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman participated in
the 2nd Extraordinary G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG)
meeting under the Saudi Arabian Presidency to discuss the impact of COVID-19
pandemic on the global economy and coordinate efforts in response to this global
challenge.
 Naval Dockyard, Mumbai has designed and developed its own handheld IR based
temperature sensor for undertaking screening of large number of personnel at the entry
gates of the yard reducing the load on the security sentries at the gate. The instrument
has been manufactured under Rs. 1000/ - through in-house resources.
 National Cadet Corps (NCC) has offered a helping hand to civilian authorities in the
country’s fight against COVID-19 by extending the services of cadets under ‘Exercise NCC
Yogdan’.

 The National Health Authority (NHA) has inked a pact with ride hailing app Uber to
provide transport services for frontline healthcare workers involved in treatment of
covid-19 patients.
 The Centre has released Rs 17,287.08 crore to different states to enhance their financial
resources to deal with the various challenges in the country’s fight against the Covid-19
pandemic.
 The grant includes Rs 6,195.08 crore on account of ‘revenue deficit grant’ under 15th
Finance Commission recommendations to 14 states, and Rs 11,092 crore in advance
under the State Disaster Risk Management Fund (SDRF) to states to set up quarantine
facilities.
 The consignment was airlifted to Male by an Indian Air Force (IAF) C-130 aircraft as part
of ‘Operation Sanjeevani’.
 A number of top fund managers from blue-chip venture capital firms – including Sequoia
Capital, Accel and Lightspeed Venture Partners — and prominent startup CEOs have
joined hands to set up a Rs 100 crore grant that will back fledgling firms working on

 Union HRD Minister has launched MHRD AICTE COVID-19 Student Helpline Portal
developed by AICTE in New Delhi.
 FMCG major Britannia Industries has partnered with Dunzo, an on-demand e-commerce
platform, to deliver its range of products during the nationwide lockdown.
 PNB Housing Finance gained 3.47% to Rs 167.20 after the company announced, it signed
an agreement with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to raise $75 million to
finance mortgage loans in affordable housing segment.
 The Ministry of Human Resource Development has designated DigiLocker as the sole
National Academic Depository (NAD). The ministry has directed the University Grants
Commission to implement NAD as a permanent scheme within DigiLocker.
 DigiLocker is primarily a cloud-based safe, which allows users to store electronic
versions of important documents like Aadhaar card, birth certificates, voters ID cards,
PAN cards, driving license, property documents and provides access to these on the go.

 Smart Cities are joining hands with medical practitioners (certified doctors and health
experts) to provide online medical consultation facilities to citizens. The guidelines
issued by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) in collaboration with NITI
Aayog and Indian Medical Council, allow remote delivery of medical services during the
lockdown period.
 The Department of Personnel and Training, under the Government of India, launches
digital platform to train all healthcare and COVID-19 warriors of India with first of its
kind iGOT e-learning Platform.
 Engineering and construction giant Larsen & Toubro has won a 'large' contract from the
Indian Army for setting up an advanced IT-enabled system to operate the Armed Forces
network under the Network of Spectrum (NFS).
 Thus, in order to mitigate this challenge, Indian Railways’ Coach Rehabilitation
Workshop, Bhopal, which falls under the West Central Railway zone, has designed a
“mobile doctor booth” named “CHARAK”.
 Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) announced collaboration with UNICEF India to
undertake a mass communication campaign to inform and empower the general public
about the COVID-19 pandemic.
 The mass media campaign titled '#BreakTheChain #VirusKiKadiTodo' will have simple yet
powerful five and 15 second informative assets to empower the general public with
prevention strategies to protect themselves against COVID-19.
 The six-year-old, privately-held STX has done 34 movies including 'Hustlers' and 'Bad
Moms' which have cumulatively grossed $1.5 billion, while Eros focuses primarily on the
Indian and diaspora markets by producing movies and distributing them through an OTT
platform.
 The Indian Navy's Naval Aircraft Yard has developed a smart evacuation pod for
evacuation of COVID-19 patients safely from remote areas such as islands and ships.
 The indigenously designed and fabricated an Air Evacuation Pod (AEP) will help the
evacuation team to safely shift coronavirus-infected persons from ships and islands in a
fully sealed patient transfer capsule.
 The Union Government has created an online data pool on https://covidwarriors.gov.in
of doctors including AYUSH doctors, nurses and other health care professionals,
volunteers from NYKs, NCC NSS, PMGKVY, ex Servicemen etc for use by the ground level
administration at state, district or municipal levels.
 The iGOT online training modules mounted on a especial digital platform-Integrated
Government Online Training (iGOT) portal (https://igot.gov.in ) for training and capacity
building of dictors, nurses, paramedics, hygeine workers, technicians, AYUSH doctors and
staff, other frontline workers and volunteers.
 IT services firm Tech Mahindra has announced that it is collaborating with the United
States-headquartered IBM to help businesses transform operations and accelerate their
hybrid cloud strategies.
 Maruti Suzuki, the automobile giant is now spearheading the production of low cost
ventilators in country and helping the government in the fight against COVID-19.
