Happy New Year … Fiscal Year that is. On July 1, Columbus Regional Health (CRH) began a new Fiscal Year and
now is the time to reflect on our recent past and look forward to the New Year. In the July 2015 Lifelines edition,
Scott Hill, President & CEO, shared “While the results of fiscal year 2015 were certainly not what we expected,
there is no doubt we have laid the foundation for future success, and we should all have a great deal of
optimism about where we are headed.” At the time of Scott’s article last year, CRH was coming off combined
losses of almost $100 million in fiscal years 2013, 2014 and 2015. I am happy to share that there is no doubt
that we are headed in the correct direction as evidenced by the results of fiscal year 2016. Columbus Regional
Health realized Income from Operations of $8.5 million on a budget of $1.2 million. This is quite a dramatic
turnaround from fiscal year 2015 losses and surpassing the plan for 2017.
Our 2016 positive variance from budget is a direct result of significantly greater than expected revenues and strong expense
management. I am also pleased to announce that the 403(b) match, which was moved from paying bi-weekly to discretionary, has been
approved to be paid in August 2016 at an amount consistent as if paid bi-weekly. More details will be forthcoming on this exciting news.
While we celebrate the success of 2016, we look forward to fiscal year 2017, which began July 1. The budget is estimating a slight
improvement in performance building upon the foundation built from $8.5 million to $10.6 million. Clearly, CRH is continuing the
dramatic turnaround from the past several years. That being said, short term success does not insure long term viability. Achieving the
fiscal year 2017 budget is critical as we continue along the journey to financial recovery and sets us up for the fiscal year 2018 budget.
This type of turnaround and continued financial performance ONLY occurs with the engagement of our employees who ACE-IT each and
every day. THANK YOU!

Children’s Hospital Receives
Multiple Donations
The Children’s Hospital has received two different donations in the month of June.
The Springer Opera House’s Theater Academy donated 71 gift bags filled with amenities such as
books, tissues, mouthwash and other essential items as well as 152 get-well cards. The academy
students also visited and sang for patients and staff. The donation stemmed from the addition of the
service component to the academy’s summer programs.
Representatives from the North Highland Church donated $6,300 to the Children’s Hospital. This
donation is made possible from the Highland Mud Run, a 5K obstacle run, which took place in April.
The proceeds went to different charities in the area that the church committee designated, with the
Children’s hospital being one of them.
Event Spotlight
Midtown Medical Center's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) hosted its inaugural Kangaroo-A-Thon in
May. The goal of the event was for parents to log 100 hours of kangaroo time with their baby. That goal
was exceeded and 200 hours were reached. Kangaroo care is the practice where babies are held skin to
skin. This helps the babies physically as well as improving sleep, feeding tolerance, brain development
and bonding. This is an event that truly shows the dedication the NICU employees have towards the
well-being and overall care of their patients.
