Green management

Green management is about becoming aware of how your behavior, working practices or
production methods impact the environment, and making changes that reduce your
environmental footprint and make your business more sustainable. Green Management is an
initiative aiming at continuously improving the foundation of environmental management, such
as the development of personnel responsible for environmental activities as well as conservation
of biodiversity.
Nestlé’s approach to green management
1. Research and development
Nestlé research and development centers have two primary objectives: to create new
products and processes and to improve those that already exist. This enables the company
to make products that have lesser chemicals or harmful ingredients in them it also enables
the company to improve the sustainability of the products while trying to maintain the
prices and the quality at a maximum level.
2. Raw materials
Nestlé sources its raw materials either directly from farmers or from primary processors
or traders. They also use agricultural materials which are locally available. This helps the
environment in many ways such that the framers get opportunity to get higher levels of
profits by removing the middle men in the transaction and when locally sourcing the raw
materials the company not only reduces the transportation costs of the company but it
also makes less of an environmental impact and lets them move closer to their zero
carbon footprint goals in the coming decades.
3. Environmental sustainability
Environmental sustainability in the supply chain through green approaches like recycling
or reducing the extra usage of materials that are unnecessary which can also include
printing too may documents and it can be a very major advantage it they decide to
remove he need of printing documents wherever possible in order to save the trees and
forests.
4. Manufacturing
Manufacturing comprises all processes that are necessary to transform perishable raw
materials into safe and value-added food products for consumers. Nestle is trying to.
Decrease the manufacturing processes and cut down wherever there are any unnecessary
steps and make the whole process more streamlined.
5. Packaging
The packaging of the products is very important to prevent food waste, guarantee high
quality standards and educate the consumers. Thus, the product should be using the
minimum amount of packaging materials and we can see that as they are now using 18%
lesser plastic in their water bottles which has a very tremendous impact. Which the
packaging also needs to inform the customer about the ingredients so that they are more
empowered and have the right to information
Benefits of Going Green
1. Health
When a company turns to green management, it can help improve air quality by eliminating
chemicals and other cleaning supplies that can be harmful. Similarly, the surroundings
environment also improves Along with the health of the employees. This also enables the
company to work better and reduces costs and the health expenditures for the workers.
Which is very beneficial for the company in the long run, especially if they are providing the
employees with health insurance.
2. Recycling
To save on costs, companies can transition to products that can be recycled, or buy products
that are made from recycled products. Also, companies can sell or donate items that they are
not using so that someone else can enjoy them and they are not filling up landfills.
3. Improved brand
Companies that go green often improve their brand and their image. The community
appreciates the company doing its part to help the environment, and the employees are more
confident with a company that values its mission to be environmentally friendly.
4. Relationships
Companies that are green are viewed as socially responsible and valuing their community
ties. This builds better relationships with customers, the media, and even governmental
agencies.
5. Technology upgrades
older machines are usually lesser energy efficient so to be proactive, companies can replace
their older versions that suck up energy and replace them with more environmentally friendly
products. This will save the company money over time, and will help them avoid future fines
for not being in compliance with industry standards.
6. Reduced energy usage
One way to minimize environmental impact is to use fluorescent bulbs instead of regular
bulbs. Fluorescent bulbs can help a company use less energy and they last longer than regular
bulbs. Other ways to reduce energy usage include shutting off lights when they are not in use,
and to unplug machines and devices when they are not being used.

Diverse workforce
A diverse workforce simply means a company has built a workforce that includes many different
types of people. It can mean people of different ethnicities, sexual orientations, socioeconomic
status, ages, genders, religions and other ways in which humans innately differ.
“We believe that a more diverse workforce with more women at the top will reinforce our
inclusive culture and make Nestlé an even better company. We are setting measurable goals to
hold ourselves accountable. We know that improving gender balance will lead to better
decisions, stronger innovation and higher employee satisfaction.”(Mark Schneider, Nestlé CEO)
Nestlé’s Approach to Diversifying its Workforce:

 Gender balance
Gender balance is the equality in the hiring of employees irrespective of their genders as of
now most companies are male dominant to varying degrees but nestle plans to change that in
fact it has been doing so since 2008. So now there are 45 % percent women in the managerial
positions in the company and they have enabled to company to grow and progress much
further. They have done this by improving their human resource team.
 Empowering people with different abilities
they aim to promote a culture that builds on strengths and focuses on abilities. they
developed a global self-assessment procedure for all our markets to benchmark themselves
against the level of inclusion and types of activities for people with disabilities in the
workplace. The objective is to track best practices and actions in training and awareness,
return-to-work practice, accessibility of sites and workplace arrangements.
 Empowering LGBT+ communities
We also expand our efforts to strengthen our inclusive workplace culture by raising
awareness about LGBT+ and collaborating with external organizations. Because all
organizations usually try to avoid the queer or transgender in the companies which not only
makes some very talented and creative people from getting jobs so it can affect the overall
productivity of the company. nestle has also been awards prizes for its inclusion of the
LGBT+ co0munioty within their work place.
 Leading Together
The ongoing training programs, workshops and best practice exchanges on Diversity &
Inclusion as well as unconscious bias aim to ensure that all our employees integrate our
guiding vision. This is mainly to ensure that the top-level executives are not from just one
country or area but they are spread to all over the world such that to try to include all races
and ethnicities. Which is a major characteristic of the successful companies that are on a
global level. So, as of 2019 nestle has employee networks in over 25 different countries. And
they employee over 300,000 employees from over 150 countries.
 Increase in Creativity
Workforce diversity increases creativity within a company because heterogeneous groups are
different from one another within the organization. Employees from different backgrounds
bring in a variety of solutions on how to achieve a common goal. As more diverse ideas are
suggested then the chances of finding the best solution are improved.
 Improves the Company's Reputation
Job seekers are drawn to companies with diverse workforces because it is evident that the
companies do not practice employment discrimination. Potential employees want to know
that employers treat their staff fairly regardless of race, ethnicity or gender. Not only are such
firms able to attract the best talent but they can also retain existing talent because of high
employee satisfaction levels resulting from workforce diversity.
Corporate Social Responsibility
The definition of corporate social responsibility is broad and can take many forms depending on
the business and industry. Businesses can benefit society while enhancing their brands through
CSR programs, philanthropy and volunteer work. This is equally beneficial for a firm as
important as CSR is to the society. CSR activities can help forge a stronger bond between
employees and corporations; boost morale; and help both employees and employers feel more
connected with the world around them.
CSR of Nestle
With the Nestlé Healthy Kids (NHK) program and the Knowledge Sharing (KNHK) program,
Nestlé promotes nutrition education and physical activities among school children in rural areas.
We also have constructed filtered drinking water tanks and sanitation facilities for students in
village schools to promote children's continuing education.
The other projects include working with local NGOs to educate farmers, launching a program
called "Amra Korbo Joy" in order to improve street vendors' livelihoods, and organizing a series
of women's wellness and conventional birth attendance education training programmes. The
commitment to creating shared value, sustainability and compliance is non-negotiable for Nestlé.
“My country, Pakistan, faces acute water shortages and ranks fourth highest in the world in terms
of water use. Nestlé Pakistan is supporting the communities we operate in by providing water
and sanitation to over 60 000 people every day”. (Maryam Khalid, Assistant Public Affairs
Manager, Nestlé Pakistan)

philanthropic causes, and provide positive social value. Businesses are increasingly turning to

for their involvement in charity work. Only good deeds can benefit the reputation of your
brand within your community. Because People feel like purchasing products and services
from businesses that support their society.

and more satisfied. Giving your employees opportunities to volunteer creates a sense of
community within your organization and a community connection.

involvement, and charity are at the top of your core values.

interaction. They may come up with new ideas about products or internal processes or they
may be innovating new solutions to problems. By demonstrating the values and passions of
your business through community giving, employees will feel encouraged and supported in
developing new and better ways of doing their jobs.
