In the 91st Psalm, there are seven things El Shaddai—the God who is more than enough—said He

will do for the person who sets his love upon Him:

"Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I

(1) DELIVER HIM:

(2) I will SET HIM ON HIGH, because he hath known my name.

(3) He shall call upon me, and I WILL ANSWER HIM:

(4) I WILL BE WITH HIM in trouble; I will deliver him,

(5) and HONOUR HIM.

(6) WITH LONG LIFE WILL I SATISFY HIM, and

(7) SHEW HIM MY SALVATION."

We need to understand the importance of the simple phrase "I will" or "I shall."

A very learned man once addressed a group of us ministerial students. This man had an excellent
working knowledge of many languages. In fact, when one of the students asked him how many
languages he was fluent in, he replied, "thirty-two."

This scholar was a translator for the U.S. Government during World War I. He was recognized as the
leading Hebrew and Greek scholar of his day.

The day he visited us, he was sitting reading his Greek New Testament. He said, "There are some
things in the Greek—and this would be true in some cases in the Hebrew—for which we have no
idiom in the English language.

"For instance," he said, "here in John's Gospel the 14thth chapter and the 13th verse, where Jesus
said, 'whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do,' the King James Version says, 'I will.'"

He went on to explain, "Now, the translators felt they ought

to use either 'I will' or 'I shall,' because that is the strongest assertion you can make in the English
language. You can't say anything stronger than 'I will do it,' or 'I shall do it.' The translators thought
they should make it the strongest assertion that can be made in English."

The scholar read the verse to us in the original Greek (it was all Greek to me). Then he said, "Now I'm
going to translate that literally for you."

This is what it literally says:

"If you will ask anything in My Name, if I don't have it, I'll make it for you"!

"I'll make it for you"! And, thank God, He can. Because He is El Shaddai—the God who is more than
enough!

I was reminded of this incident because in the 91st Psalm God says "I will do" the following seven
things.

First: "I will DELIVER HIM."


Thank God, this God who is more than enough is a delivering God!

As we saw earlier, He told Abraham his descendants would be sojourners in a foreign land for 400
years, but He promised, "I will bring them out with a strong hand."

God doesn't forget His promises: 430 years after their captivity began in Egypt, God raised up Moses
and Aaron to lead Israel out of bondage—and He brought them out with a strong hand. He's still the
same delivering God today! He is more than enough!

According to Acts 10:38, "God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power. who
went about doing good, and healing ALL that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him."

Satan is the oppressor. Jesus is the Deliverer.

Second: "I will SET HIM ON HIGH, because he hath known my name."

This point will be studied with the fifth point.

Third: "He shall call upon me, and I WILL ANSWER HIM."

God always has been a prayer-answering God. All through the Bible, God said, "I will answer."

Jeremiah 33:3 says, "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things,
which thou knowest not."

In Isaiah 43:25,26, God said, “I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake,
and will not remember thy sins." Then he added, "Put me in remembrance ...” (v. 26).

Remind Him of His promises! Remind Him of His Word!

Coming over to the New Testament, we find marvelous promises that thrill our hearts:

MATTHEW 7:7,8

7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall
be opened.

MARK 11:24

24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive
them, and ye shall have them.

JOHN 16:23

23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the
Father in my name, he will give it you.

Coming to the Acts of the Apostles, we see that He is still a God who hears and answers prayer; a
God who is more than enough.

One day Peter and John were on their way into the Temple through the Gate Beautiful when they
saw a man, lame from birth, begging alms. It was at the hour of prayer, 3 o'clock in the afternoon.
The Bible says that Peter, "fastening his eyes upon him," said, "Look on us." The man looked up,
expecting to receive some coins. But Peter said, "Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I
thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk" (Acts 3:6).

As Peter took the beggar by the hand and lifted him to his feet, his feet and ankle bones became
strong. He was healed immediately, and he accompanied them inside the Temple area, "walking,
and leaping, and praising God" (v. 8).

When news of this miracle spread, a crowd gathered. Peter and John were arrested for preaching,
and the next day the chief priests and elders commanded them to preach and teach no more in the
Name of Jesus (Acts 4:18).

"And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders
had said unto them" (v. 23). Bless God, I like that! They went to their own company.

Then the whole company of believers lifted up their voices together in prayer to God and said, “now,
Lord, behold their threatenings ...” (v. 29). They concluded their prayer by saying, "grant unto thy
servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and
that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus" (vv. 29,30).

The Bible says that the place where they were assembled was shaken, and they were all filled with
the Holy Spirit (v. 31). Bless God, we need some praying like that today—praying that will shake the
very places where we're praying.

He's a prayer-answering God. He said, "I will answer him."

Another example is found in the 16th chapter of Acts, where we find Paul and Silas in jail at Philippi.

They are in the innermost prison. Their feet are in stocks, and their backs are bleeding, because they
were beaten. "And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God

and the prisoners heard them" (v. 25).

At midnight! It literally happened at midnight! But there is also a symbolic thought here. In the
midnight of your life—in your darkest hour—the Bible tells you what to do. At midnight they prayed
and sang praises to God. The fact that the other prisoners heard them means they didn't do it
silently; they did it out loud. Yes, the prisoners heard them, but somebody else heard them, too—
this God who is more than enough!

I can just see Him looking down over the banisters of heaven and asking one of the angels, "What in
the world is that noise?"

The angel reports, "That's Paul and Silas down there in jail."

So God reaches over the banisters of heaven, as it were, takes hold of that jail, and shakes it until
every door flies open, every window flies open, and every cell door flies open.

The jailer, seeing this, thinks the prisoners have escaped. Knowing their escape would cost him his
life, he is preparing to fall on his sword and kill himself when Paul said, "Do thyself no harm: for we
are all here."

The jailer called for a light, sprang into their cell, and fell trembling before Paul and Silas, asking,
"Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"
They replied, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house" (v. 31).

He was saved that very night, and they had a midnight supper at his home.

Looking at the Epistles, the Apostle Paul said:

PHILIPPIANS 4:6

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your
requests be made known unto God.

The expression “Be careful for nothing ...” is not too clear. A better translation is, "Do not fret or
have any anxiety about anything."

God doesn't want you to worry or be anxious about aWhy? Because He's the God who is more than
enough: the All-Sufficient One, the One who never changes, the One who never fails. He is just as
able today as He ever was. (Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.) And He's
interested in you. He's concerned about you. That's why He said, "Because he hath set his love upon
me, therefore ... I will answer him." He didn't say, "If it's my will, I will answer him." He said,
"because he hath set his love upon me, I will answer him."

If your love is set upon God, your will is in line with the Word of God. A man or woman walking in
fellowship with God will never ask anything outside of the will of God. And the Word of God is the
will of God.

Fourth: "I WILL BE WITH HIM in trouble; I will deliver him."

God didn't say you weren't going to have any trouble just because you've been born again and filled
with the Spirit. In fact, He rather infers that you are going to have trouble because you're a Christian.

The world is going to persecute you. They're going to talk about you. They're going to speak evil of
you. And the devil, who is the god of this world, will put pressure on you at every turn.

When this happens, some people think it's God who is putting pressure on them. No! Satan is the
author of sickness and disease.

JOHN 10:10

10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have
life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Here Jesus is contrasting His works with the works of the devil. God is not a thief. Jesus is not a thief.
Heaven's not a thief. The devil in hell is the thief. He is called the god of this world in Second
Corinthians 4:4. And he's out to defeat you.

He's walking about as a roaring lion (1 Peter 5:8). No, he's not a roaring lion; he is as one, seeking
whom he may devour. And he'll devour you if you let him. But, thank God, you don't have to.

No, God didn't say we would never have any troubles, but He did say, "I will be with him in trouble."

PSALM 34:19

19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.

Half of them? No, all of them. This God who is more than enough, the All-Sufficient One, delivers him
out of all of them. In the Old Testament, this word "affliction" doesn't mean sickness and disease;
the Hebrew word actually means "test" or "trial." That's what your troubles are: tests and trials.
Some people seem to be content to stay in trouble. They say, "The Lord's with me." But He's not just
with you; He's there to deliver you! He's there to bring you out of your troubles. The troubles of the
righteous are many, but the Lord delivers them OUT of them ALL.

JAMES 5:13,14

13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.

14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders...

James is talking about three different things:

Is any afflicted? Let him pray.

Is any merry? Let him sing.

Is any sick? Let him call for the elders of the church.

As the Word says, the afflictions of the righteous are many, but the Lord delivers him out of all of
them, because He promised to do so. The Almighty God promised. The God who is more than
enough said, "I will deliver him."

Somebody has said that the argumentative kind of prayer is the best kind, and I sometimes think it
is.
