In the early days of Hollywood, the big studios wanted all their stars to have a good image. These studios worked closely with the newspapers to make sure they
only printed the information that the studios gave them. This only changed when Louella and Hedda started to publish articles about the things that famous
people were doing wrong. During their most popular period, twenty million people a day would read their stories.
When they were young both Hedda and Louella had tried to get into show business and failed. Some people say that they were jealous of the stars and this is
why they enjoyed telling the world about their secrets. Whatever the truth is, after these two women started writing about celebrities’ outrageous behaviour,
there was no stopping the demand for more!
