Jetsun Drolma “Nyurma Pamo”

Mantra: OM TARE TU TARE TURE BODHI CHITTA SOHA

Jetsun Drolma Nyurma pamo is called as “Nyurma Pamo” is short. JETSUN


means female, which is supreme one and protector. DROLMA refers to liberator or
savior. With love and compassion, she liberates all living beings from suffering,
fear and miserable condition, leading them to joy, peace and enlightened state.
NYURMA reflects her act, her compassionate activity is so quick, so swift upon
praying. PAMO is a feminine form of the term for a hero, A heroine who is
courageous and commitment to the liberation of all living beings without feeling of
tiredness and boredom.

Nyurma Pamo is a heroine whose eyes flash like lightening, Born from the opening
corolla of the lotus face of the lord of the triple world to pacify hindrances and
develop Bodhicitta. It is also believed that the Tara was appeared in a tear from
Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezig) ‘s right eye as a expression of his supreme love and
compassion.

2. Loter Yangchenma

Mantra: Om Tare Tu Tare Ture Prajna Hrim Hrim Soha

The tibetian word “Loter” means Knowledge giver and “Yangchenma” means
melodious, one who possesses melodies or sources of melodies. In Sanskrit, she is
called both Saraswati and Vajrasaraswati. The Loter yangchenma is a goddess of
immeasurable knowledge, beauty, art, music and science. She is a source of
harmony, peace, truth and wisdom.

3. Sonam Tobche

Mantra: Om Tare Tu Tare Ture Maha Punye Soha.


“Sonam” means Merit, good fortune, prosperity or even luck. “Tab” means power,
ability and “che” means increasing. Hence, She is a liberator, increasing the power
of prosperity and ability of merits. Practice of Tara Sonam Tobche not only acquire
external or material wealth, but also helps to develop inner or spiritual wealth. A
very special gold coloured body, holding a blue colour of lotus flower on left hand,
Tara Sonam Tobche practices the six causal paramitas of Generosity, Effort,
Austerity or Conduct, Calm or Wisdom, Acceptance or Patience And Meditation to
liberate sentient beings and establish them on the path. She has attained mastery in
bodhisattva conduct and actualized the qualities of the ten power, (life, mind,
necessities, deeds, birth, devotion, aspiration, miraculous abilities, wisdom and
Dharm). She is also known as by, Vasudhari (Sanskrit) and Norjunma (Tibetian).

4. Tsugtor Namgyalma

Mantra: Om Tare Tu Tare Ture Ayur Date Bhrum Soha

The term Tsugtor indicates the topknot upon the crown chakra of a Buddha, which
is one of the thirty-two major marks of a fully enlightened being. Namgyal means
Victorious one. Hence, she is a victorious one of the top knot. She is renowned as
the Tara of long life, with the ability to strengthen the life force, life energy, and
vitality of all sentient beings. She is also renowned for protecting beings from
premature death and from falling to take rebirth in unfavourable situations or lower
realms, or undergoing adverse changes of our situation. In Sanskrit, she is famous
as "Ushnishtavijaya".
There is a legend that at one time, when Shakyamuni Buddha was teaching, Tara
manifested right upon his crown chakra and spontaneously taught the Tara
practice. Thus, she is named as Tara of the Top Knot

5. Wangdu Rigje (Rigjema) Lhamo

Mantra: Om Tare Tu Tare Ture Kuru Kulle Nri Dza Soha

Wangdu means power of gathering, summoning or magnetizing. It refers to


attracting everything beneficial, to benefit all beings. Rigjema means, she who
precisely understands everything and Lhamo is Divine lady. So, she is known as
the Tara who precisely understands the power of magnetizing. Rigje Lhamo is a
red color, symbolizing the activity of overpowering or magnetizing and she holds a
blue lotus flower. She is often named as the "Red Tara" because of her color. She
is called "Kurukulle" in Sanskrit.
On a throne of a lotus and moon appears, Red Tara with one face and two arms,
she sits in the dismounting posture. Her right hand is in the mudra of supreme
charity. Her left hand is in the Three Jewels mudra. At her ear, on the pistil of
utpala flower, is a bow and arrow ready to shoot. Sharp rays of light blaze from it,
destroying the pride of all the arrogant ones of the seven worlds.

6. Jigje Chenmo

Mantra: Om Tare Tu Tare Ture Sarva Bighnen Bam Hum Phat Soha

Jigje means fierce, frightening and Chenmo means, great one. So, this Tara is the
great, fierce Tara. She is renowned for protecting against any negative forces and
from those who are creating problem in our immediate environment.
On a throne of a lotus and moon appears dark-red Jigjed Chenmo with one face
and two arms. She sits in the dismounting posture, Her right hand is in the mudra
of supreme charity. Her left hand, in the Three Jewels mudra, holds an uptala
flower blooming at her ear. On its pistil is an indestructible phurba, surrounded by
blazing lassoes of flames and sparks.

7. Zhengyi Mithubma

Mantra: Om Tare Tu Tare Ture Vajra Taka Hana Litsa Phat Svaha

Zhengyi Mithubma means unconquerable, cannot be defeated by others, or one


who can completely destroys all negativities. Tara Zhengyi Mithubma sits on the
lotus and moon disc with one face, two arms and two legs; trampling with her right
leg bent and the left extended, describes her energetic but totally relaxed posture.
She is both fierce and gracefully beautifully at the same time. Her color is blue-
black. She is described as being the color of heavy rain clouds or dense smoke. She
is sitting in flames of wisdom fire, surrounded with darkness. Her face has a
frowning, wrathful expression. In the middle of the lotus flower which she holds in
her left hand, there is a standing sword with a handle shaped like a vajra. Her
sword flames and sparks fire. Despite her frightening appearance, Tara is still none
other than a true love, true compassion, and true wisdom, manifesting in a very
powerful form.

8. Zhengyi Migyalma

Mantra: Om Tare Tu Tare Ture Daha Patsa Hum Phat Swaha

Zhengyi Migyalma, stands for invincible lady, whom can’t won. With the
terrifying appearance, she has the power and ability of a Buddha. When she has
finished destroying the maras, or , fears, she is once again beautiful like a lotus,
remaining strong and powerful. Moreover, She has special abilities to protect us
against troublemakers persons who criticize and harass others, and people who
bring lawsuits.

9. Sengdeng Nagchi

Mantra: Om Tare Tu Tare Ture Dana Traya Swaha

Green Tara, who protects from all external fears, is named as Tara Sengdeng
Nagchi (or Dolma). Sengdeng is a very large wrathful tree and Nag mean Forest.
Hence, she is the Green Tara of the Sengdeng forest. She sits in a protection
mudra, gesture symbolizing the Three Jewels.
10. Jigten Sumle Gyalma

Mantra: Om Tare Tu Tare Ture Loka Pasham Kuru Swaha

The title Jigten Sumle Gyalma means Tara who gains victory over all the three
worlds. Her special power is to protect us against distraction by worldly activities.

11. Phagma Norter Drolma

Mantra: Om Tare Tu Tare Ture Mama Basu Pushtim Kuru Swaha

The eleventh Tara is named Phagma Norter Drolma. Phagma means “noble one” or
“supreme one”. Roughly translated, Norter mean “bestowing riches.” So Phagma
Norter Drolma is the Noble Tara who bestows wealth.
Tara Norter Drolma is renowed as Tara the wealth-giver, who removes the
sufferings of poverty. With her intense wrathful energy, emanating the syllable
HUNG in all directions, she showers down wealth, joy, and satisfaction to every
single sentient being. This is not only physical wealth, such as plenty to eat and
nice clothes and money. It is also the wealth of capabilities and understanding,
which liberates beings from the poverty of ignorance. So her name is more fully
understood as “ lady who liberates from every sort of poverty.”
There is a beautiful story told about Tara and the great Indian master
Chandragomin, who taught at Nalanda Monastry in the ancient times. He was a
famous scholar, but very humble and poor, owning only his robes, howl, and the
text of Prajnaparamita. One day a poor beggar woman came to him in tears,
begging for a few alms so she could provide a dowry for her daughter. Having
nothing value to give her, Chandragomin began to cry. He prayed to a picture of
Tara Painted on the wall of his room. The image quickl came to life, took off her
(now quite real) silken clothes and ornaments of gold and jewels, and gave them to
him for the beggar woman’s dauther. The painting then returned to his wall and
was ever after known as the Naked Tara.

12. Tashi Donje

Mantra: Om Tare Tu Tare Ture Mangalam Shri Maha Pani Swaha


Tara Tashi Donje means “Tara who actualizes auspiciousness.” Tashi is the
Tibetan word that means, “Auspicious circumstances,” and Donje means
“fulfilling” or “actualizing”. In particular, this Tara is renowned for bringing
harmony and balance. Internally she brings health and physical balance and
externally she brings timely seasons, good harvest, healthy children, and
prosperity. With her help all becomes as it should be.

13. Yulle Gyalma

Mantra: Om Tare Tu Tare Ture Vajra Dzola Phat Phat Raksha Raksha Swaha

Tara Yulle Gyalma means, “Tara who gains victory over war.” She is renowed for
protecting against all the obstacles related with wars. She can reverse the march of
armies or stop the war completely. Her protection also applies inwardly, too, as she
stops hostile emotions born of conceptual thinking that disturb our awareness and
wisdom and might lead us to war like actions

14. Thronyer Chen

Mantra: Om Tare Tu Tare Ture Hum Hum Ham Sham Nan Phat Swaha

This Tara is known as Thronyer Chen. Thronyer is “frowning, wrathful,” so she is


the very wrathful, frowning one. She is a special emanation of Tara whose activity
is removing subtle obstacles due to misleading influences, which are usually our
most stubborn obstacles. She deals with our last “wrinkles” or, we might say, the
last two precent of our delusions, deep within the elemental nature of human
beings.
