Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission On Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT)
DEVELOPMENT
Organized by:
The TLCs will assist the faculty in capacity building for curriculum designing,
scientific assessment and evaluation and the development of innovative academic
programs to strengthen the inclusive nature of higher education. The TLCs are
also encouraged to reach out to teachers teaching in regionally disadvantaged
locations.
The Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission emphasizes the need to
change the role and workings of a teacher from a mere disseminator of
information and knowledge to the one who helps students to develop critical,
analytical skills, capabilities to generate information, the ability to reason and to
empower themselves through open sources and globally oriented digitalized self-
learning processes. The focus is not only on 'what is taught' but also importantly,
to 'the way it is taught’, in an effort to develop and enhance individual education,
that will eventually go on to define the manner in which the future generations
will work and live.
The Teaching Learning Centers offer Faculty Induction Programs (FIPs) for
newly recruited faculty and Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) for teachers
with experience who wish to update their field of knowledge, expertise and skill
with the latest available research, resources and technology. In the FDPs, special
emphasis is given to inter and cross-disciplinary methodologies of study.
Keeping in view the immense benefits and reach of online courses in the present
academic set-up when the humanity is struggling is with COVID-19, the Teaching
Learning Centre at Ramanujan College, University of Delhi is offering a Two
Week Faculty Development Programme on “Advanced Concepts for
Developing MOOCs” for faculty members and research scholars of higher
education in the country from 1st July to 16th July, 2020.
RAMANUJAN COLLEGE
The recent pandemic situation has led the world to an online era where most of
the offices have switched to “work from home”. E-learning has become
significant and is rapidly gaining momentum. With the Government of India
aiming at digitizing India with its “Digital India” Initiative, educational
institutions are also upfront in imparting knowledge to the students as well as
teachers to attain this goal.
MOOCs are widely seen as a major part of a larger disruptive innovation taking
place in higher education. MOOCs are regarded by many as an important tool to
widen access to higher education for millions of people, including those in the
developing world, and ultimately enhance their quality of life. In particular, the
services offered include research, curriculum design, content generation (such as
textbooks), teaching, assessment and certification (such as granting degrees) and
student placement. MOOCs can help democratize content and make knowledge
reachable for everyone. Students are able to access complete courses offered by
universities all over the world, something previously unattainable. With the
availability of affordable technologies, MOOCs increase access to an
extraordinary number of courses offered by world-renowned institutions and
teachers.
The learning environments of MOOCs make it easier for learners across the globe
to work together on common goals. This is the reason they are gaining immense
popularity among the faculty members by helping them in their professional
development. By allowing learners to complete their coursework in their own
time, this provides flexibility to learners based on their own personal schedules.
Certain lectures, videos, and tests through MOOCs can be accessed at any time
compared to scheduled class timings. Also Instead of having to physically meet
one another, which is a must nowadays due to the pandemic situation, online
collaboration creates partnerships among learners locally as well as
internationally. While time zones may have an effect on the hours that learners
communicate; however the projects, assignments, and more can be completed to
incorporate the skills and resources that different learners offer no matter where
they are located.
With this program, the participants who are familiar with the basics of MOOCs
would be able to explore the advanced concepts of MOOCs for upgrading the way
of their teaching, learning and professional development. They would be able to
upgrade the traditional course materials to highly interactive courses with inbuilt
assessment mechanisms in order to support community interactions among
students and teachers. In addition to this, MOOCs would also provide analytics to
improve learning by using certain online tools and techniques to relive the
classroom experience while sitting at our homes. It would also help them to
enhance their outlook towards the open access features to promote the reuse and
remixing of resources and generate bilateral and dynamic content.
