ENTERING THE EISTEDDFOD
ONLINE ENTRIES
Once again, we will be using the STARDOM entry system for online entry. Please use your existing
login details from previous years or create a new account if you are entering for the first time.
Through STARDOM, competitors have the ability to check and modify their entries before the closing
date (1st March 2016).
Entries may be submitted after the closing date until March 8th 2016 with a Penalty Fee of $40.00.
POSTAL ENTRIES
Postal Entries will incur a $5.00 processing fee and will not be accepted if received after March 1st
2016. Any late postal entries will be returned unopened.
Separate Entry Forms must be used for each competitor and no changes can be made to any entry
after March 1st 2016.

PRIVACY STATEMENT
1. The Warringah Eisteddfod Inc. collects personal information about competitors and
parents or guardians before and during the conduct of the eisteddfod. The primary
purpose of collecting this information is to enable the Warringah Eisteddfod Inc. to provide
an annual performing arts competition.
2. The Warringah Eisteddfod Inc. from time to time discloses personal information to others
(government departments, people providing services to the eisteddfod, including specialist
adjudicators and volunteer helpers).
3. If we do not obtain the information referred to above, we may not be able to enrol or
continue the enrolment of the competitor.
4. Some of the personal information collected is published in the Programme and the
Syllabus. On occasions personal and group achievements, results and contributions are
published in newsletters, magazines, the web site and in the press.
5. Competitors and their parents may seek access to personal information collected about
them by contacting the Administrator, Warringah Eisteddfod Inc. However, there will be
occasions when access is denied. Such occasions would include where access would
have an unreasonable impact on the privacy of others, where access may result in a
breach of the Warringah Eisteddfod Inc.’s duty of care to the competitor or where
competitors have provided information in confidence.
6. If you provide the Warringah Eisteddfod Inc. with the personal information of others, such
as teachers, you should inform them that you are disclosing that information to the
Warringah Eisteddfod Inc. and why, and that they can access that information if they wish
and that the Warringah Eisteddfod Inc. does not usually disclose the information to third
parties.
7. The Warringah Eisteddfod Inc. has adopted a Privacy Policy in accordance with the
Commonwealth Privacy Act, 2000.

GENERAL RULES AND CONDITIONS
ALL CATEGORIES
§ CATEGORY SPECIAL RULES AND SECTION RULES OVERRIDE GENERAL RULES WHERE APPLICABLE.
§ Failure to comply with the rules will result in disqualification* or penalties. Please read all rules carefully.
ENTRIES
1. Entries will be accepted on line or by post subject to the following:
a. It is the responsibility of the competitor (parent or guardian in the case of a minor) to
correctly complete and submit the entry form in accordance with the general rules and
conditions and any special rules or conditions applied to the category and the specific
section.
b. Entries will only be accepted if accompanied by the full entry fees for all sections entered.
c. On-line entries close after midnight March 1st 2016. Any late online entries can be
submitted before March 8th 2016 with a Penalty Fee of $40.00.
d. Posted entries will not be accepted after March 1st 2016 and will be returned unopened.
Separate entry forms must be used for each competitor. No changes can be made to any
entry after March 1st 2016.
2. The age of the competitor on 1st May 2016 will be recognised by the committee who reserves the
right to request proof of age.
3. RESTRICTED SECTIONS are confined to competitors who have NEVER won a FIRST prize at any
recognised Eisteddfod, Festival, or Competition in that particular category as at March 1st in the
current year.
4. A solo competitor may compete only once within any section or combined section.
5. In the case of duets, trios, quartets and quintets, names and ages of all members MUST be
stated on the entry form. No competitor may compete more than once in these sections.
Provision may be sought for substitution of competitors in extreme circumstances provided
written application is approved by the convenor.
6. Any competitor who has won two consecutive Championships, Arias, Entertainers or Concerti is
not eligible to enter that section in the following year.
7. Scholarships can only be awarded once to any competitor in a category.
8. Intending competitors, who have been pupils of, or have taken lessons from the Adjudicator for
the particular section in which they are entering within the previous 6 months, are ineligible to
enter that section.
9. The committee reserves the right to cancel any section in which, in their opinion, there are an
insufficient number of entries, or to combine two or more sections.
10. FINALS will be held in any section if the number of entries warrants it.

PERFORMANCE
11. Where there are FEWER THAN SIX competitors, ONE PRIZE only will be awarded from SIX to
TEN competitors, TWO PRIZES - and ELEVEN or GREATER competitors, THREE PRIZES will be
awarded. The Adjudicator/s, with the permission of the Convenor or Committee Member in
charge, may award more or less prizes.
12. Where events are run with limited entries cash prizes will be adjusted accordingly by the
Convenor(s).
13. Entry Fees will be refunded only if it is necessary to cancel a section.
14. The time stated in the programme is the scheduled time of commencement of the section.
Competitors MUST be ready to perform on stage 30 minutes before that time in the order set
down in the programme unless they have permission from the Convenor or the Committee
Member in charge for that session. Failing this, they will be eligible for adjudicator’s comments
only.
15. No competitors may perform outside their sections unless they have the permission of the
Convenor/s following a written application stating specific reasons.
16. Except as provided in this rule no person may substitute for the original competitor as named on
the official entry form. In duos, trios, quartets or quintets provision may be sought for substitution
of competitors in extreme circumstances provided written application is approved by the
Convenor.
17. A competitor may perform in more than one section, but may only perform once within any solo,
duo, trio, quartet or quintet section.
18. Each item may be performed only ONCE during the Eisteddfod. For any variations to this rule,
refer to the Special Rules at the beginning of each Category.
19. A competitor may NOT repeat any “Own choice” item with which he or she has won a FIRST
prize at the Northern Beaches Eisteddfod for at least TWO years following the year in which the
award was received. This rule is not applicable to Ballet & Dance.
20. Competitors must take care that items are taken from books or editions as stated in the Syllabus.
21. No teacher or parent, except in the capacity of Accompanist or Conductor, will be allowed
backstage or on the stage at any time, except with the permission of the committee.
22. PROMPTING, except by an Adjudicator is NOT PERMITTED.
23. The Committee reserves the right to substitute Adjudicators if the need arises.
24. In OWN CHOICE Sections, originals or copies of the chosen piece/pieces for use by the
Adjudicator MUST BE HANDED IN at the Registration Table before commencement of the
Section. Competitors are responsible for collecting their original at the conclusion of the section.
25. If copies are used the competitor (parent or guardian in the case of a minor) is responsible for
obtaining permission from the copyright owner if required. The committee does not countenance,
sanction or approve any infringement of the copyright act and has the right to destroy any

unlicensed photocopies. Each competitor (parent or guardian in the case of a minor) is
responsible for ensuring that copyright is not breached.

26. Any rights to use copyright sound recordings and mechanical rights that should be obtained in
respect of recorded music (including digital recordings) for performances is the responsibility of
the competitor (parent or guardian in the case of a minor). The Northern Beaches Eisteddfod
holds licences issued by APRA (public performance of copyright musical works), PPCA (for public
performance of copyright sound recordings) & CAL (for photocopying or reproducing copyright
material, excluding musical works).
27. Exceeding the specified time limits will result in penalties or disqualification*. A bell may be rung
to signal “Time” and the competitor must IMMEDIATELY leave the stage. Every care will be taken
for Competitors’ safety but the Committee will not be responsible for any injury sustained by any
Competitor or attendee during the Eisteddfod.
28. No privately owned videos, cameras, phones or recording devices of any kind to be
used in the halls at the request of the committee and in compliance with copyright law.
29. Purchase of a ticket and/or entry to the Northern Beaches Eisteddfod is accompanied
with the understanding that you must abide by the rules and regulations set out in the
Syllabus and the Programme.
ADJUDICATION
30. No persons will speak to or approach any adjudicator or the adjudicator’s table before, during or
after the Eisteddfod except Eisteddfod staff.
31. Protests may be lodged in writing on the appropriate form accompanied by a $15 fee and handed
to the registrar/convenor either prior to, or within ONE HOUR of adjudication. No action will be
taken without a formal protest.
32. The Adjudicator’s decision is final.
33. The decision of the committee on any question, dispute or protest will be final.
**A category is defined as one of the following; Ballet, Dance, Instrumental, Pipe Organ,
Speech and Drama, Vocal.

SPECIAL RULES
1. Date of birth and age of Competitor on 1st May 2016 must be stated on all entry forms.
2. Professional teachers and performers are not permitted to compete in this Eisteddfod.
3. Please adhere to the maximum Time limit in each section. A bell may be rung to signal “time” and
the competitor must then IMMEDIATELY leave the stage.
5. A Competitor who forgets his/her dance and leaves the stage but performs it later, will be
penalised – 12 years & under a 2-point penalty, 13 years & over Adjudication Only.
8. Where there are insufficient entries for a section the section will be combined or cancelled.
9. Female Competitors - a short tutu must be worn in all Classical Solo Sections.
10. A Competitor may appear on stage once only in any section, except in a Championship.

11. Competitors who have gained a first place in any Eisteddfod may not enter a Restricted Solo
Section in that category.
12. A Dance Studio may only enter ONE Group Item per section except for Classical Ballet Groups
where more than one is allowed. Any props used must be able to be carried on stage by one
person.
13. Competitors must enter and exit the stage from the wings and not from the audience or front of
stage. Penalty - adjudication only.
14. Demi Character Dance must have a theme or story. Steps must have a strong classical
component. No vocals on CD.
Rules for:
Classical Ballet Scholarships & Dance Scholarship
1. To be eligible for a Classical Ballet Scholarship (Junior and Senior) competitors must have entered
in two (2) previous sections. Juniors - 11 years B404 and B424, 12 years B405 and B425, 13
years B406 and B426. Seniors - B407-B409 and B427-B429. To be eligible for a Dance
Scholarship, competitors must have entered in two (2) previous sections from D007, D017, D018,
D019, D027, D037, D038, D038, D039, D047, D057, D058, D059, and D073 & D074.
2. SENIOR Entrants must have turned 14 years and be under 20 years on May 1, 2016.
3. Competitors will do a class, then finalists will be chosen to perform one (1) item of their choice
( may repeat a dance already performed). Dance Scholarship, Contemporary, modern
expressive/lyrical or tap solo may be performed. For Classical Scholarships – Classical Dance only
to be performed.
5. Minimum number of entries to be 10 or section will be cancelled and entry fees refunded.

Rules
1. To be eligible, a competitor must dance in both a solo Classical and a solo Demi-Character
Section prior to competing in a Championship.
2. Sub-Junior Championship competitors are to dance a CLASSICAL DANCE ONLY, which has not
been performed in another section.
3. Junior and Intermediate Championship competitors must dance BOTH a Classical and Demi-
Character dance, one of which may have been performed in another section.
4. Open Senior Championship competitors must dance a Classical and either a Demi-Character or
Contemporary dance, one of which may have been performed in another section. Please
nominate which one on the Dance Entry Form.
5. The Classical dance will be performed first.
6. A competitor who is a full-time student of dance at the time of performance or has been a full-
time student of Dance at any time in the 12 months prior to the performance may only compete in
the Open Senior Championship.
7. If less than 8 entries in a championship, the section may be cancelled and competitors will be
moved up to the next age group. Competitors will be notified.

Rules
1. To be eligible, an entrant must dance in a solo Jazz/Musical Comedy (not Song and Dance) and -
a solo Modern/Contemporary Section or - a Modern Expressive Lyrical prior to competing in a
Championship.
2. Championship competitors must dance both a Jazz/Musical Comedy and Modern/Contemporary
or Modern Expressive Lyrical dance, one of which may have been performed in another section.
3. The Jazz/Musical Comedy dance will be performed first.

3. Entrants are required to participate in a 45-minute dance class conducted by a guest adjudicator.
4. Following the class entrants are required to perform one solo dance in any of the following Dance
Genres:

b. Modern Expressive/Lyrical

d. Tap

SPECIAL RULES
1. Own choice: An unmarked, legible copy must be provided for the adjudicator clearly showing
the title, author and name/s of character/s performed (where applicable). All work must be
memorised, unless otherwise stated. In all “Own choice” selections, suitability of material is
essential. Offensive language and blasphemy are unacceptable. In compliance with Copyright
Laws Own choice copies will be destroyed. Original or authorised copies may be returned.
2. Competitors (parent or guardian in the case of a minor) are responsible for ensuring pieces
registered and performed comply with General Rules and Conditions - All Categories, Speech
and Drama Special Rules, and Section requirements regarding author, theme, publication, or
version. Any competitor performing a piece that does not comply with all conditions for the
section entered will be disqualified*. Competitors (parent or guardian in the case of a minor) are
reminded to pay special attention to rule General Rule 19.
3. Groups/Schools who have won FIRST PRIZE in the Northern Beaches Eisteddfod will not be
allowed to perform the same piece for TWO YEARS following the one in which the award was
received.
5. Competitors, teachers and parents are reminded that prompting, except by the adjudicator
(General Rule 22) will result in disqualification* of the competitor.
6. No teacher or parent is allowed on the stage or backstage at any time, except for Group
Sections S393, S394, S395, S396, S397, where special rules apply.
7. Arrangements for placement of bulky props for all other sections must be made prior to the
commencement of that section with the Convenor. Props must be removed from the stage at
the conclusion of the performance.
8. Teachers are responsible for providing and organising operation of sound recordings as
required.

Rules:
1. Competitors in sections S300, S301 and S302 must enter and perform in at least two other
solo sections in this category to qualify for participation in the relevant championship.
2. Character recital, self devised scene and memorised prose must not have been performed in
any other section. No props or costumes allowed. A chair and table will be provided.
3. Minimum number of entries to be 8 or section may be combined or cancelled. Entry fees will
be refunded if the section is cancelled.
4. Selected competitors may be invited to enter a championship during the course of the
Eisteddfod.
5. Any competitor who has won two consecutive championships is not eligible to enter that
section the following year.

Entry Fee: $20
Rules:
1. Entrants must be between 10 and 16 years (inclusive) as at 1st May 2016.
2. Minimum numbers of entries to be 10 or the section will be cancelled and entry fees
refunded.
3. No winner may re-enter
4. Marks will not be re-issued
5. The Adjudicator’s decision will be final
6. Protests will not be excepted
First and Second place winners in the following sections will be invited to enter:

SPECIAL RULES
1. An unmarked legible original (or copy in compliance with APRA/AMCOS) of the full score
(preferable) must be provided for the adjudicator in English, clearly showing the title and
composer of the piece and the nominated instrument for performance.
2. Competitors (parent or guardian in the case of a minor) are responsible for
ensuring that music registered and performed complies with General Rules and Conditions
– all categories, section requirements, copyright and time limits. Any competitor
performing a piece that does not comply with all conditions for the section entered may be
disqualified*.
3. Appropriate cuts may be made where necessary to accommodate time limits.
4. Competitors exceeding specified time limits shall be disqualified*.
5. Competitors must play with accompaniment unless the work is specifically written for an
unaccompanied instrument. Competitors must provide their own accompanist.
