The Hallows of Hekate

FOR STRATEGIC SORCERY STUDENTS TO BE PERFORMED ON OCT

31ST, NOV 1ST, OR NOV 2ND

In the spring of 2000 I was living in Nepal and meditating on impermanence at the
charnel grounds of Pashupatinath when I had a vision. The scene of bodies being
cremated on the ghats of the Bagamati river went dark. From within that darkness I
saw a point of light. Soon I could see that it was actually two lights approaching me.
As they grew closer I could see that the lights were flames that were hovering above
the open hands of a beautiful young woman. She had dark hair, and wore a blood red
gown. Her golden sandles were caked with red mud.

Though she didn’t speak her name I recognized her as Hekate. This was strange to
me, since I was in Nepal to study Tibetan Buddhism. As if in reply to that thought,
she spoke:

“I am she who is gone beyond, all places of passing belong to me, no matter where
they are, or who they are dedicated to. Soon you will return to the redlands that you
call home. When you do, go to the pines and find a place where three roads converge.
Make me an offering and call to me using one of my formulas of old. When we come,
I will teach you new formulas and reveal my arcana to you.”

She than raised her hands with the fired burning above them and put them to my eyes
burning them. I fell back in pain and I once again found myself in Pashupatinath.
Months later I was back in the United States, and followed her instructions. I went to
the Pine Barrens, a lonely desolate area of New Jersey with a unique occult history. I
found a lonely crossing of three roads. I offered a supper of three eggs, some incense,
and some honey to her. I called her using the Orphic hymn that goes like this:

EINO-DIAN HEKA-TÊN, KLÊIZÔ, TRI-HO-DIT-IN ERAN-NÊN,

OURAN-IAN, CHTHON-IAN, TE KAI –EINA-LIAN, KRO-KO-PEP-LOS.
TYM-BID-IAN, PSY-CHAIS NE-KYÔN META BAK-CHEU-OSAN,
PER-SE-IAN, PHI-LER-ÊMON, AGAL-LOMEN-ÊN ELA-PHO-ISI.
NYK-TERIAN, SKY-LAK-ITIN, AMA-IMA-KETON BASI-LEIAN.
THÊRO-BROMON, AZÔ-STON, APRO-SMA-CHON EIDOS ECHOU-SAN
TAUROP-OLON, PANTOS KOS-MOU KLÊIDOU-CHON, ANAS-SAN,
HÊGE-MONÊN, NYMPH-ÊN, KOURO-TRO-PHON, OURE-SIPH-OI-TIN
LIS-SOM-ENOS, KOURÊN, TELE-TAIS HOS-IA-ISI PARE-INAI,
BOU-KOLÔI EUMEN-EOUSAN AEI KECHARÊ-OTI THY-MÔI

I invoke you, beloved Hekate of the Crossroads and the Three Ways
Saffron-cloaked Goddess of the Heavens, the Underworld and the Sea
Tomb-frequenter, mystery-raving with the souls of the dead
Daughter of Perses, Lover of the Wilderness who exults among the deer
Nightgoing One, Protectress of dogs, Unconquerable Queen
Beast-roarer, Dishevelled One of compelling countenance
Tauropolos, Keyholding Mistress of the whole world
Ruler, Nymph, Mountain-wandering Nurturer of youth.
Maiden, I beg you to be present at these sacred rites
Ever with a gladsome heart and ever gracious to the Oxherd.

A mantra came into my head, that I began to repeat:

Ia Heka Io Ho, Ia Heka Io Ho, Ia Heka Io Ho…

That marked the beginning of my relationship with Hekate. I began to release small
bits of what she taught me in some articles in Behutet Magazine, and then again in my
first book Protection and Reversal Magick. Since then though she has instructed me
to be silent about her and gather her teachings slowly and carefully. Last year she
instructed me to start teaching her mysteries more widely. I have been popping out
materials here and there as well as leading two apprentices through the whole Hekate
Training program. This year, I will be offering the training to anyone in the Strategic
Sorcery Course that is interested. Details will be posted in a couple weeks.

The following ritual is completely optional. It is not required for the course and stands
alone. It is meant to be performed on Oct 31st, Nov 1, or Nov 2 2013. You can
perform it again at other times to connect with her, and I encourage you to do so, but
doing it during these three days will carry a special blessing because so many of us will
be doing the same rite at the same time.

You will need two candles and some incense. An optional offering of Egg and Honey
is also welcome, and can even replace the incense if you cannot burn anything where
you are. The candles can be white or a dull and deep red. The incense can be of any
kind you like. Keep it on the altar for three days than take it out and place it at a three
way crossroads at the edge of the town or city you live in, or failing that, at a
graveyard. If you have a statue or image of Hekate it can be placed between the two
candles, as can icons and tools sacred to her: Keys, Torches, Daggers, Snake Bones,
Human Bones, Whips, etc.
Spoken words are capitalized in bold. Directions are italics.

Notes on the Greek:

The ritual contains several Greek words. The names of Hekate are all explained in the
invocation itself except for the three secret names which are used frequently in the
Greek Magical Papyrii. You can research those on your own. The other words are as
follows:
HEKAS - Begone Far Away BEBELOI - Profane Ones
ENOIGESAN AI PYLAI TOU OURANOU! Open the pylons of the heavens!
ENOIGESAN AI PYLAI TES CHTHONOS! Open the pylons of the earth!
HEKA - Beyond also a word for magic in Egypt
EGO SE ETELESA - As I say, let it be finished
CHA EE RO - The chairo written phonetically. Rejoice
