The first day of classes and I look up my schedule to see what is my next class or my next

subject, then my next class is Philippine History. At first I was nervous not
because of the subject, but on the interaction that I will deal with my classmates that I didn’t
know. Deep inside I was excited on the subject itself, because I want to learn more about
Philippine History aside from the learnings that my teachers taught us in primary and secondary
level.
At the time that will enter the room I'm a little bit shy or confused to myself that should I be here
in this class, Should I survive this subject? Because all my classmates are a medical technology
and accountancy students and there like a nerdy type of person. As a student athlete, all my
subjects are international section that they say! So I need to cope up with them, I will set aside
my shyness and the language barrier, because all of my classmates talking in English fluently
and I'm not as fluent as that, maybe my English language is like Carabao that they say. But in
the long run I realize that I need to interact with them to make friends so I can get along with
them in the entire semester for this subject.
While we are waiting for our professor, I need to talk to my classmate and asked them if what is
there expectations in the subject, As the majority of my classmates said they are looking
forward to what will happen in an entire semester, and I know it that was all the same
sentiments about this subject to make it fun, exciting and more outputs or learnings.
As the time is running, our professor came in our classroom, me and my classmates are so
nervous and make a moment of silence to respect to our professor. Then our
professor introduces herself and she is Mrs. Palenzuela. She discussed also the house rules in
his subjects and we are all quite listening to her. In my first impression of Mrs. Palenzuela,
She’s so strict and very substantial, so I'm a little bit scared at the same time excited for the
learnings that she will make me realize that history is interesting subject not a boring one like
others saying.
After Mrs. Palenzuela introduced herself and the house rule, That’s our turn to introduce
yourself also in the class, So my classmate introduces their self one by one and there are some
comedy face, nervous, shy and just like an image emoticon. And my time will come, I
introduce myself to my classmate and to our professor, I'm I little bit shy and my voice is
shaking, I didn’t know why? So I continue introducing myself, after all, we introduce our self and
the time were up to end, So Mrs. Palenzuela make her goodbye to our class and see you at the
next meeting.
At the second meeting of our class, I was not so nervous and feeling happy that time because I
will see my classmate and I'm excited to interact again with them. One of my classmates is also
my classmate in another subject and he is AXL CANTIL, He also in the same class that we want
to drop the subject after the class and we were laughing. But in the end, we didn’t drop the
subject because we're still happy and we want to know more about the history. Some of my
classmates are knowledgeable in history and we are interacting and sharing thoughts. And our
professor is very approaching in our questions.

At the following meeting, were like enjoying the historical subject of Mrs. Palenzuela, She knows
how to interact with the subjects. There are sometimes that we are like bored on a certain topic,
but with the help Mrs. Palenzuela she wants that our class is lively, no one get bored or sleepy
in her subjects. The attack of her discussion is different to the other professor because she
wants to erase the mindset of the students that history is a boring subject and she wants more
on student centered approach. Were in the students need to actively participate in discussion
not only the professor is talking in the front of the class. So we, as a student need to interact
with the discussion by reading the handouts or article so we may give some insights regarding
the topic.
Since I interact a lot with my classmates or friends, They are helping me on what to do when we
have assignments whenever didn’t attend the class during some circumstance or conflict to
make adjust on the next topic or I should say no one will leave behind in her subject. In terms of
groupings, my groupmates motivate me to do the task or more on knowledgeable about a
certain topic, but if we don’t know so much the topic Mrs. Palenzuela give her helping hand to
help or explain more topics clearly to the class or in the groupings.
There’s a topic that I like in History especially the President of the Philippines and how it grows
or their contributions in the country as well as their tag name and how they end their term, In
this activity Mrs. Palenzuela to recite the Philippine President up to the era of Emilio Aguinaldo
up to present. As the discussions go by overtime that our classmates recite some names of the
President of the Philippines. Our professor will give us some insights that we don’t know about
the presidents and how their term affects the Filipino Citizen in that area or in their term. In that
they were full of learning because some are we hear it for the first time and that time also that
you dint want to end the class because you're enjoying it.

After a few days, Our professor has given us notes to read in our home and for the next meeting
or discussion. So that in our next meeting we will have some recitations regarding on the article
that she gave us and this is also a test if you read or knowledgeable in that certain article. After
giving some insights of the said article, Our professor immediately askssome reflection to the on
the activities we have done as proof that we listen and analyze the article as an insight on that
activity.

Some of the class were watching a short film about the history of the Philippines to learn more
and to visualize on what happen to the history. Our professor wants us to visualize the history
by showing a film because it's hard to make realize or visualize if based on the textbooks. In
that short film the one that caught my attention is President Marcos on how he declare the
martial law and what are the circumstances to have an EDSA People Power Revolution that led
him to terminate the position.

Through out the semester, Philippine History is such a boring subject to learn in school. Who
cares if I don’t know what occurred before and what the people have done before that we
should owe. Right? But Iv’e fully realized that the subject is not just a subject to
take in completing a course in college nor a pre-requisite in proceeding to next semester. It’s a
matter of how we understand the history and culture of the Philippines since we are inhabitants
of this land and we are the one, the Filipinos, who are liable for taking care of this country
because we are products of Philippine history. So that we are able to turn out a brand new
breed of Filipinos who have a robust sense of NATIONALISM in their hearts and minds. This
statement struck me most of this reflects the fact of the Philippine scenario these days. Look
into Philippines currently, several Filipinos lost their sense of being a nationalistic since they're
being unsighted by the trends presently showing within the society. Also, the beliefs and culture
of the many Filipinos are remodeled and adjusted into the new ones (foreign culture and
beliefs). Another thing is that studying Philippine History would help us transform society. It is
true that “whatever the mistakes in the past are, the present generation may not repeat it and
the future generation would be freed from the bondage of tyranny and slavery”. Upon studying
history, we would have precautions and hints on what to do in the present because of
our experiences before. Just like the lack of unity which the Filipino showed before, that's why
they are always defeated on their revolts against the Spaniards. And that is what
we shouldn’t do today. We must unite and hold hands together when fighting not against the
colonizers but against the struggle between co-Filipino people within the country.
My Target expects for the first meeting up to know meet the standard of what is Philippine
history all about not only a history itself, but an inspiration to others that we are Filipino can
make the country better or strive more.
