Filipino Citizenship Values

1. The House of Life: Respect for Life – We Filipinos has a deep respect for life. Historically
speaking, we have fought wars and oppressors in order to protect the sanctity of life. We
are able to build protective barriers called laws and human rights. We value life as much
as we value our faith to the One who gave it to us.

2. Father’s Mistake: Concern For The Family and The Future Generations – One of the
best values we uphold is our family-centeredness. Above all things, we put the welfare of
our family first. We would do anything and everything for our families. This value is
bounded by love.

3. The Truth about Lies: Truth – This is a vital value that we Filipinos take seriously. For
truth is the anchor that keeps us steady in this life. We also have a habit to lie
spontaneously however; we are still given a chance to correct this kind of ways. The
truth could always set our nation free from poverty of all kinds, if and only if we are
willing to take it and uphold it.

4. To Every Man His Due: Justice – as the quote says “Justice is giving every man his
due”. This story reflects how justice works in our lives. Justice is served differently
depending on the situation of a person. It must favor the one who needs and deserve it
more. However, Justice must always be protected and not trampled with deceitfulness
and lies.

5. Skulls: Equality – This values show that in this life, we have different of race, status, and
conditions but one thing is common is that we are all equal in amount of dignity and
destiny. In the end of life we will be at the same 6 feet under and we cannot carry
material things with us but our dignities.
6. A Chinese Legend: Promotion of the Common Good – This value speaks about us
putting others before our self-interests. This strives to keep sensitive to the needs of our
fellowmen and making sure their welfare is stable. Just as bamboo sacrifices himself in
order to grow the rice in fields.

Insights on The House of Life and The Chinese Legend

Both stories reflect two important values in this life. These values are what we
desperately need to develop and maintain; faith and humility. We need enough faith in order to
acknowledge that there is a creator that gave us every good thing we have, enough faith to
respect other people as we respect for ourselves. This value faith allows us to hope and uphold
the beliefs we have that protects the sanctity of life. We need tons of humility to accept the
calling and responsibility bestowed to each and every one of us. We must be humble enough to
surrender our selfish desires in order to do what we must, and do it for the good of all. Faith and
humility must come hand in hand in order for us to achieve a nation where children are not
boxed into a close-minded culture, where young people can freely express themselves without
being judged, where citizens can feel the sense of security and not the urge to work overseas,
and where families does not need to end being broken. Between faith and humility is love that
covers all and binds everything to work together. Love is what allows us to have faith and
humility. Love pushes us to have faith and be humble so that we can still live in a society we all
deserve to be.
