From the Principal’s Desk…
Dear Shri Family
Namaste!
Another year has flown past and I fondly reminisce the
beautiful moments we spent at school that have become
beautiful memories to cherish. As a leader I believe in
developing the attitude of acknowledging similarities,
embracing differences, respecting diversity yet retaining
our uniqueness and individuality.
Expressing oneself without inhibition, the ability to articulate one’s thoughts and to
present it collectively in the form of a students’ magazine is an annual ritual I look
forward to. Usually only the best articles and write-ups find a place in school
magazines. Since, 100% participation is the mantra at TSUS that we follow in every
aspect, it has reflected in the students’ magazine as well. It's a great pleasure and
satisfaction to see a bouquet of expressions of Shriites that have manifested in
various forms. My dream is to enable every shriite to express his/her thoughts in the
form of words or drawings without an inhibition of command over the language or
artistic skills.
Apart from creating such platforms at school, I strongly urge parents to encourage
creative writing and inculcating the reading habit at home without the pressure to be
perfect. This helps children blossom and become bold and fearless individuals with
opinions. Let us do our bit as educators and parents to give flight to their imagination
and build a strong foundation of happy learning and free expression to every Shriite.
Renowned writers, authors, editors and artists of the future could be walking the
corridors of TSUS, Hyderabad – who knows.

From the Academic Head’s Desk…
Dear Shri Family
Namaste!
We are coming up with the second edition of Shri Darpan.
I want to share a small incident from my life……. When I
was first learning to ride a bicycle, I was nervous and held
the handlebars hard. My mother promised that she
wouldn’t let go of the back of my seat. Slowly I got the
hang of it and became steadier because it was not all that difficult. In fact, I began to
enjoy it. Seeing this, mom slowly let go of my cycle but continued to run behind me so
that she is there if I fell. This run turned into a slow walk and a day came when she
stood there watching me cycle. I was not aware of what was happening behind my
back. I could not believe my eyes when I looked back and saw my mother few metres
away applauding. It certainly made me more confident and my trust in my capabilities
grew further.
This is exactly what the school and teachers do for all children. The school teaches us
all how to get on the cycle and promises to be there when children wobble. Teachers
start letting go of the cycles but keep running behind their students to make sure they
manage and succeed.
At this time, I can only ask all my Shriites to enjoy new experiences, begin to step out
of their comfort zones, push boundaries and learn what they are capable of doing and
put their minds into it.
The only one thing I feel sets TSUS apart from other schools is the relationship we form
with our students. Every teacher here believes in everything that a child does and wants
every child to speak his mind. It equips every student with the confidence, experiences
and relationships to be able to ride that bicycle on their own.
I am going to end with my favourite quote. Maya Angelou said, “I‘ve learned that people
will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget
how you made them feel.”

From the HoD- Shri Sparsh ‘s Desk
Mona Lisa!
We all know that ‘Mona Lisa’ is a painting by Leonardo da
Vinci. One of the notable features is the eyes, the gaze.
The observer feels that the soft, neutral gaze is fixated on
him/her. The eyes of the portrait seem to follow the viewer.
We have all general information about children on our
fingertips. It helps to teach, care and develop a profile.
What about the hard data? The triangle of hard data:
attitude, aptitude and attainment. This triangle needs to be
used effectively. It has the power to transform the learning and wellbeing of every
student. Learning and teaching is ‘looking at you’. It is the Mona Lisa effect. Think of
the way the Mona Lisa’s eyes appear to look at you and only you as you walk past –
that’s how we want our students to feel. It requires careful planning to bring this in
practical terms.
The emotional health of children is vital for their development, attainment, happiness
and wellbeing. They may be stressed, anxious, scared of failure, lack in confidence.
Let’s develop these in young brains while they retain the plasticity to change respond.
The most instrumental people, being the parents, and teachers. Building a relationship
first is important for teaching. The child may be wearing a mask and needs little help.
In the words of Andrew Moffat, teaching should be “I like you, I like being your teacher.
Let’s have a great time together.” Do everything you can to understand the students
and to see life and learning through their eyes.
We need to arm ourselves with a broad and deep understanding of what makes a child
remarkable. We need to be treasure hunters and mechanics. As treasure hunters, let’s
dig for the riches in each child. As mechanics, support and adjust their cognitive and
attitudinal machinery.
To summarise, we’ve found that knowing where the key issues lie when it comes to
factors that directly contribute to educational success or failure means we can really
put into motion our ‘Mona Lisa’ approach to teaching and learning. Let’s make children
feel safe, secure, confident, successful and happy to help them make good choices
and be good human beings. Let’s provide a place, an opportunity for children to bloom
and celebrate differences.

Student Council Reports
Chief Editor:
Being a Chief Editor is both fun and exciting. Reading and writing has always been my
passion. My dream is to become an author. When I heard that TSUS was starting a
school magazine, I wanted to be a part of it. When I was elected as the Chief Editor, I
vowed to myself that I would give my best. In my role as Chief Editor, I had to take
interviews of all chief guests. This gave me a great opportunity to meet eminent
personalities and learn about their journeys. I also wrote articles and had to help select
a title, a logo etc. for the magazine. It was an extra effort, but all good things only come
with hard work. It was an amazing experience and I really enjoyed it. If you ever get a
chance to become a chief editor, my suggestion is to grab it. I am proud to be TSUS’s
first Chief Editor. I hope you enjoy reading our magazine!

Head Girl:
My journey as a Head Girl at TSUS has been wonderful and I am enjoying every moment
of it. I vividly remember the moment when they declared the results, and my name was
announced as the Head Girl. The moment just froze for a second. That moment and
each time I wear the badge of the Head Girl are moments which will be cherished by
me forever. I have tried my best during the year to perform all the duties as a Head Girl
very diligently. Becoming the Head Girl has been a very humbling experience for me. I
am grateful to the school for giving me this opportunity.

Head Boy:
First of all, as the Head boy of our esteemed school, I have experienced a magnificent
first-year in this school. This is a really unique school that has very special features. For
example, I have never seen a school that is so committed to the environment, and
inspires the students to become really good citizens. To me, taking the oath as the Head
boy and holding The Shri Ram Universal School’s official flag was something I can’t
express in words. This has been a very eventful year for me, which has helped me grow
as a person, sensitive to nature and nurturing relationships. I also realized that I have
the potential to inspire and lead students.

Shri Paryavaran:
This year, in July I was selected as the school’s Head Shri Paryavaran. As my initiative,
of environment, there has been many advancements. Our school had launched a
programme called plant and promote. In this programme, Shriites planted saplings in
their home in September and took care of their plant and submitted the report of it.
This had planted at least 150 trees in Hyderabad. Apart from trees, we Shriites

monitored the food being wasted during the lunchtime. We motivated the students to
eat everything in the plate and serve as much as they want. This has immensely reduced
the quantity food wasted. We also spread some awareness of the urgent need in climate
change and various other environmental issues. Our school has also banned the use of
foil, polythene and thermocol. We also had in event in which we showed our creativity
by making models. These models did not contain any harmful materials like plastic or
spray paint. - Vihaan Agarwal, VIIB
Shri Sparsh:
This year, 2019-20 has been a year filled of lots of fun. All the Sparsh children were
involved in various activities which took place in this academic year. They attended the
Diwali Mela at Sahasra – A center for learning and thoroughly enjoyed the day. All the
Shriites wouldn’t have been able to without the support of the Shri Sparsh department.
Shri Sparsh also had a stall on All About Future. They spoke about how the airplanes
will be in the future. All the Shri Parents were extremely proud of their children. The
Shri Sparsh department is incomplete without the Shri Educators who always support
the Shriites in every way possible. I would also like to thank Manasvi Devineni our
deputy Shri Sparsh Head who has always supported me throughout my journey.

Shri Dayitv:
The academic year 2019-2020 has been very productive. The Shriites participated very
actively in the cleanliness drive all of us cooperated with each other and made our class
and our surroundings clean such as the cafeteria and the chikoo grove, many Shriites
also cleaned the busses. The students of grade-6 visited the blind school and interacted
with the student there. On our school mega event All about future our shri parents
willingly donated blood that saved many lives. Our school also had the Earn and Donate
programme this where all the student worked hard and donated the money earned. In
the joy of giving week our Shriites donated groceries stationary and toiletries. I would
like to thank manjula ma’am who coordinated with the NGO we were donating to. I
would also like to thank manasvi boyapati our deputy shri dayitv head for supporting
me throughout the journey. - Nishka Ravi, VII B
Shri Army:
When I got selected as the Head Shri Army, discipline captain, of my school, my duties
were to ensure that people don’t fight, and also to make sure that the elder students
don’t trouble the younger ones. I helped resolve some problems regarding these topics
like stopping people from fighting and running in the corridors. Once there was an issue
and some students were speaking inappropriately. We, Shri Army members counselled
them and we got to know that it was not repeated. I should thank the members of the
Shri Army - Shreya Kumar, Aditya Chaukhani, Yash Mehta, Manasvi Reddy, who make
the school a more disciplined and a better place to study.

House Captain Reports
Dhairya House:
I am proud to be a Shriite. I joined The Shri Ram Universal School in the academic year 2018-
19. I stood for the post of Dhairya House Captain, and it was the most memorable day when I
got to know I was elected as the Dhairya House Captain. I also realized that I had to take many
responsibilities towards my house and also towards my school. Many students of Dhairya
House have represented our school and have won several trophies and medals. As a Captain of
Dhairya House I have learnt a lot. I realized that if we all work together as a team we can
achieve more. - Shriya Sinha, VII B
Abhay House:
It was a great 2019-20 academic year especially for Abhay house. We (the house captain and
house prefect of Abhay house) had a lot of responsibilities. Our main role was to lead the house
to success with the help of our House mistress, Vijay a Ma’am, who sets an example for the
students. To do so we had house meetings that were conducted, to discuss about the house
board, discipline and make the students understand what our house emblem stands for. The
Phoenix is a unique bird, resembling an eagle but with rich red and gold plumage. It is
extremely brave and that is what the Abhay house students have shown throughout this
academic year. We would also discuss about what to make for the house board based on the
theme. I would like to say that each and everyone deserves a pat for working hard to make our
house the best. -Dhanvi Boyapati, VII A
Lakshya House:
As I look back on my journey as a house captain I feel grateful to the school committee for
giving me this opportunity. I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment in this journey and
worked towards the goals and tasks assigned to me in this role. During the course of the year,
our house won many prizes and participated wholeheartedly in the various events conducted
in the school. I am especially grateful to our House master and House teachers for all their
support and encouragement through the year. I look forward to taking up new responsibilities
in the next academic year and contribute to the school to the best of my abilities.

Nishchay House:
The year 2019-20 has been very fruitful for Nishchay House. Every day the students would
come smiling to me and ask me with great enthusiasm, “House captain, what should we make
for the house board? I used to be simply delighted at their constant support and eagerness to
contribute to our house. With all the values of the month, the students in our house including
me have learnt a lot of useful things. I am proud to be a part of my house. We have a very
supportive House Mistress, Himavathi Ma’am and very supportive teachers without whom we

honor to have you here!!
Vanshika: Mr. Doyle sir, what are some tips that you think all aspiring
authors should be aware of?
Vanshika: Wow, great thoughts sir. What is the best writing tip someone
has given you?

right, how you’re going to write your exam, and that kind of thing. And
later on when I started writing for magazines, journals, then there were
editors. I would write and then they would polish that. So no one ever gave
tips. Unfortunately,
Suhani: Apart from the books you wrote, which book do you mostly like?
Christopher C. Doyle: Hm, the only thing I would say is when you are
writing the book, make sure that you are enjoying it. Because id=f you
don’t, the readers won’t enjoy it either. That is the biggest thing.
Christopher C. Doyle: Thank you, it was very nice meeting you. I look
forward to seeing you gain!

My True Inspiration!
Michael Jeffrey Jordan is a former basketball player. He is
considered as the greatest basketball player of all time. He
won six championships and was the Finals MVP (Most
Valuable Player) many times. He played for the NBA
teams Chicago Bulls and the Washington Wizards. Michael
Jordan led the Bulls to a record of 72 wins in the 1995-96 NBA
Season. He earned the nickname of "Air Jordan" due to his leaping ability which
was shown by performing slam dunks from the free throw line in slam dunk
contests. Which is very impressive. Michael Jordan won two Olympic gold medals
with Team USA. In his first season of basketball he was named to the All-Star
team which started his career as a basketball player.
Early Life
Jordan’s family was not that rich. His father taught him to work hard and not be
tempted by street life. Jordan loved sports but failed to make his high school
basketball team. He didn’t get disheartened and practiced very hard to make it to
the team the very next year. In Jordan's first season at North Carolina he was
named Rookie of the Year for 1982. The team won the championship mostly
because of the legend himself ‘Michael Jordan’. HE is my TRUE inspiration!!!

Space
All available evidence points to the fact that the Universe is open and it is
ceaselessly expanding. Space means the whole universe, including the earth,
while outer space refers to space other than the earth; outer space begins where
the earth’s atmosphere ends and extends in all directions.
The observable universe has a diameter of 25 billion light years and the number
of galaxies it contains is still uncertain. Theories of space also differ, and these
are based on the flight of galaxies. Outer space is infinite; in fact, it is so vast that
the usual terrestrial units of measurement hardly suit its dimensions.
In space when a star dies it explodes and forms a black hole a black hole is
basically a region of space having a gravitational field so intense that no matter
or radiation can escape.

The Joy of Giving
Every year, our school has this particular week called ‘The Joy of Giving Week’.
Each student from grades 4, 5 and 6 had made a card for the Support Staff of the
school, and the students of grade 6 had to hand them out. Each one of us was
given around 5 to 6 cards, which we had to distribute among the Support Staff.
In the end, I had two cards left, so I decided to give them to my bus Didi and the
driver. When I boarded the bus, I gave one card to Didi, and she thanked me. I
kept my bag in my seat and headed to the front of the bus. I gave the second card
to the driver. He also thanked me, along with a grateful smile. I felt very happy
that I had made at least two people smile that day.
The following day, I boarded the bus and sat with my friends. Suddenly, my
glance fell upon the driver’s seat. In front of the seat was the same card I had
given my driver the previous day. He had stuck it there so that he could see it
every day, and feel that he was appreciated. The moment I saw the card; the sight
had touched my heart. I had given him the card to make him feel happy, but I
never thought that seeing that card would make me feel happy too.
That day, I learnt how much joy can giving bring, not only to that receiver, but

A Meaningful Rebel
“She’s a rebel” or “he rebels against the system so much” is something we might
have heard. We may have wondered, what is a rebel? A rebel is someone who
breaks a certain rule or belief. The common phrase “rebels against the system” is
used for the same. When the idea of a ‘rebel’ comes in our head, we would
probably picture a girl or boy with a lot of piercing and dressed in black, a
similar image also coming for the word ‘goth’. Contrary to our assumption, a
rebel does not have to look that way. One of the biggest rebels we know was
Mahatma Gandhi. Of course, if we compare a picture of him to what we often
picture when thinking of a rebel, they differ so much that it is almost comical.
Rebelling is not a ‘bad’ thing to do, when rebelling for the right thing, like
Malala Yousafzai. Of course, there are some rules that do us good and prevent
damage. Rebelling against them would be useless. There is a big difference
between being a meaningful rebel and one that rebels for many and all things.

Time Waits for No One
July 4, 2019
Sarah Blaze screamed in joy as she rode her pure white stallion, Moonlight, across
the meadows. Her wavy black hair danced on her shoulders as the crisp morning
breeze hit her face. She kept on riding until she heard a distant sound of a bell
ringing. Lunch was ready!
As she dismounted her horse, a blonde girl ran out of the nearest house and
bumped right into Sarah. She looked up meekly and mumbled an apology. Sarah
tried to look angry, but with her lips twitching, she ended up laughing. Her
younger sister tilted her head to her left, a sign of confusion. ‘Watch where you’re
going, Colette!’ said Sarah, looking down with amusement. Colette grinned,
causing small dimples to form on her cheeks. Sarah wrapped her arm around her
sister and together they went inside their house. An hour later, Sarah yelled, ’I’m
going out to ride Moonlight, Mother!’ She dashed out of the house. A moment
later, a woman appeared near the front door, her straight black hair tied into a
thick braid. ‘Sarah! Sarah, come here for a minute!’ she said, putting down her
laundry basket and wiping her hands on her apron. Sarah jogged back into the
living room. ‘Yes, Mother?’ she asked. ‘Your cousin, Audrey, is coming to town
today evening and is only staying till 7pm, so be at home by four’. Mrs. Blaze
picked up her basket and returned to her work. Sarah grinned. She had many
cousins, but Audrey was her favorite. She couldn’t wait to see her again!
Come on Moonlight, you can run faster than that!’ Sarah patted Moonlight’s
head as they galloped across the meadows for the second time that day. She rode
for what seemed like minutes, but was actually hours. As she finally forced
herself to get down, she noticed that her shadow was a bit too long for the late
afternoon sun. Only then did she realize that the sun was setting on the horizon.
‘Oh, no!’ cried Sarah. Her face turned from rosy pink to pale white. She ran down
the road and burst inside her house. On the couch sat her mother. ‘I’m so sorry,
Mother! I lost track of time! Where’s Audrey?’ she looked around the room
frantically. Her mother stared at her, her twinkling blue eyes now as cold as ice
as she replied. ‘She went back to her home. She said she was looking forward to
meeting you, but you didn’t turn up’. Sarah hung her head and put her hands on
her face. ‘If only I hadn’t been so foolish!’ she sobbed. ‘I should have remembered!
Who knows when Audrey will come again?’

‘
Is now a good time to come?’ said a voice from behind. Sarah spun around and
gasped. Audrey was standing near the door, her hands on her hips and a huge
grin on her face. She was three years older to Sarah and was about a foot taller
than her. Her short blonde hair fell on her face as she tackled Sarah into a hug.
‘Audrey! Aren’t you supposed to be at home now?’ asked Mrs. Blaze. Audrey’s
green eyes glinted mischievously as she replied. ‘I missed the bus to come see
Sarah’ she said casually, patting Sarah’s head, who still couldn’t believe what just
happened. Mrs. Blaze cleared her throat. ‘Well then, let’s go to Sarah’s room and
see if we can add an extra bed there.’ Audrey let go of Sarah and ran up the stairs.
Sarah started to follow her, but her mother stopped her. ‘I hope you learnt your
lesson, Sarah’ she said. ‘Time waits for no one and it is up to you to make the
most of it.’

Dark Chocolate- Really Unhealthy or Just a Myth?
We all have probably had chocolate at some point. There are three categories of
chocolate- white chocolate (which doesn’t have any cocoa in it!), milk chocolate
(in between white and dark chocolates) and dark chocolate. Dark chocolate has
varying levels of bitterness in it, depending on the sugar, milk and cocoa ratio.
They generally have 50-55% of dark chocolate in it. If your parents stop you
from buying dark chocolate, well, fellow dark-chocolate lovers, here are some
advantages you can tell them. Scientists say that a daily ‘dose’ or intake of 30-60
grams is healthy for us. It also has caffeine, but doesn’t keep you awake as the
amount of caffeine in it is really less in comparison to coffee or tea. Good dark
chocolate is rich in fibre, iron and other
minerals. Cocoa and dark chocolate also
have way more powerful antioxidants
than most other foods. It also may
protect our skin from the sun. Also, a
little nibble of it every now and then
helps adults lose weight as it makes us
feel fuller. Last but definitely not the least, it’s extremely delicious and great for
the ‘flavonoids’ on our tongue.

Cleanliness is next to Godliness
Cleanliness is the state of having a clean, neat, organized environment. Our life
can be way easier if we follow cleanliness. Cleanliness is essential not only for us
but also our surrounding people, then why don’t we follow it?
Not being clean can lead to consequences. Having an
organized surrounding makes it
easier for us to find things. We can save a
lot of time by organizing our things
once and maintaining it and
whenever we need it, we can get it in a jiffy,
instead of spending time searching for it and
then keeping it somewhere and forgetting it. If we
don’t take care of the cleanliness, we or
someone else may catch diseases because
of the microbes spread by garbage. We
also should take care of our own
personal hygiene, if we each take care of our own hygiene then we can make a
difference. Our personal hygiene includes the air we breathe, the land around us,
the water we drink. This is what we need to take care of. One of the major
polluters is plastic. We can use our own cloth bags steel utensils and much more.
We should follow the three R’s- Reduce, Recycle and Reuse, and also the newly
introduced refuse.
The government can also watch the industries and factories for any waste being
wrongly disposed. They can also put a ban on plastics and a fine for using it. The
government has also take a step towards cleanliness by Swachh Bharat.

No pain no gain
“No Pain, No Gain”, is a commonly used term used by people who work hard. It
means that suffering is on the path to success, and that there are no shortcuts for
it. The pain we get today is the strength we get tomorrow. If we make an effort
today it will pay tomorrow. Like we work hard for an exam, and the net day we
can get high marks. Education is one of the most important things. It is what we
build our future on. If we put in an effort now it will highly pay in the future.
Without hard work nothing grows but weeds. If we won’t put in hard

work now, then we won’t get a good result tomorrow. Many have made many
sacrifices, and put in a lot of hard work for the comfort we are getting today.
They had taken the pain of doing
something and made a result of it. One
such example is Thomas Edison.
Edison put in days and nights of hard
work in creating light bulb, which is now
used in every house, every corner of the world.
No pain no gain is not only a statement; it is a line that makes people realize that
nothing can be achieved without hard work or suffering. It also makes them
realize if they are on the right or wrong path.

How robots may be able to take over professions in the future.
Robots are amazing, and probably even the first word that comes in
your mind when you think about ‘Future’. When you learn about
robots, you will realize that robots can be much more than just
personalized assistants to help you with everything. With
more developed technology, robots can take over professions.
Robots can become engineers, surgeons, police officers,
cooks, waiters, maybe even start their own business if
intelligent enough! Although, this doesn’t mean that we should
completely depend upon robots. Yes, robots are intelligent but
you never know when they can start to malfunction. Robots
conquer most of the professions but not all of them. For example,
robots cannot become teachers. “Why not?” you may ask “Robots
are very intelligent and have in-depth subject knowledge!”. Yes,
they do, but the bond teachers have with students is way better than a robot. I
would like to conclude this article by saying “Robots may be in the future but are
not the future.”

An Eye Opener
Crispr, when simplified, breaks down into the words
C = Clustered R = Regularly I = Interspaced
S = Short P = Palindromic R = Repeat
Now, without explanation these words seem very complicated and difficult to
understand. However, with little elaboration,
the meaning of these words comes into view.
DNA or, deoxyribonucleic acid, is the code
by which our cells form proteins and other
bodily secretions required for survival. In the
1960s, scientists bombarded plants with
radiation in the hope of causing random, and
maybe useful mutations in the plant. In fact,
for years, we humans have been using DNA to our advantage and breeding
useful characteristics in our livestock and agricultural crops. This was done
through the process of selective breeding, or, choosing certain parents to mate in
the hopes of progressing a certain characteristic of the animal. Crispr is simply
an easier and much more precise way of editing the human genome (which
contains the DNA) and producing certain mutations that we wish to occur. All of
this was discovered through the bacteriophage, or phage for short, phages are
pathogens (viruses) which attack bacteria, if a bacterium survives an attack by
chance, it can use a protein called Cas9 which reads the DNA of the virus attack
and replicates it to neutralize it. When the virus attacks again, the copied DNA
stream binds to the virus DNA and neutralizes it, thus stopping the virus attack.
(viruses attack by injecting their own DNA and using the cells/bacteria (in this
case bacteria) resources to make copies of itself). The revolution began when
scientists found out that they could give a certain DNA strand that they wished
to edit, and Cas9,(the protein), would do it for them, a lot of complicated science
is involved in how Cas9 does this, but we will not discuss it further in this
Article. Right now, Crispr technology is still in its early stages and testing on
human embryos will surely occur in the near future. This technology will soon be
able to eradicate the very concept of disease at its fundamental source. With
Crispr, we could edit our immune cells to fight off diseases that have been
plaguing

humanity for millennia, one of our most deadly enemies, cancer, can be stopped at
the source. We could kill the single deadliest disease, Malaria, by editing
mosquitos to eradicate the virus (plasmodium) in their own bodies. With the
revolutionary gene editing technology of Crispr, the very code of life is at our
fingertips and we can weave it as we see fit.

An Honest Explanation
On the outskirts of a forest, Alanur was a small hamlet of Pulaiyars, studded with
small huts under old thatches and inhibited by Agraian labourers engaged in
menial occupations.
On the thresholds of the huts, covered with strips of leather, the red – crested cocks
crowed before dawn calling the brawny Pulaiyars to their day’s work.
Under the shade of the kanji tree, spread the voice of the wavy – haired Pulaiyar
women singing. As they were husking PADDY, out came a tall, lean, muschy
woodcutter carrying an axe on his shoulder, walking towards the forest.
There, he worked all day, occasionally wiping the sweat from his brow and trying
hard to cut the wood, but, his axe wouldn’t cooperate as it’s very old. As his hands
were also covered with sweat, his axe slipped and fell into the deep, dark river
below. He ran to the river as fast as his legs would let him go and fell suddenly by
his feet near the bank, for his axe was nowhere in sight. Surely, now he and his
family would starve. Moreover, the axe belonged to his grandfather and he loved
it with all his heart. He was devastated and was weeping in despair.
Then, to his utmost surprise, the forest goddess
rose gracefully from the river. Her presence
seemed to fill everything with beauty and joy.
In a melodious voice she said “what happened
my child. Why are you in such a state?” In a
voice filled with devotion and sorrow the
woodcutter replied “O, Tribhuvana
Chakravartin, my humblest apologies. My axe
has fallen into your river and I desperately need
it back.” Upon these words the goddess dived into the river and returned back
with a golden axe and offered it to the woodcutter, but, he refused to accept as it
was not his. The same happened with a silver axe. Finally, when she came back
with his old axe, he leaped with joy and accepted it gratefully. Pleased with his
honesty, she gave him all the three axes for his keep.
He happily went back home and whenever he was in any hardship, he used to sell
an axe, yet he remained the same humble farmer he was before.

Diary Entry
Friday, 19th July 2019
Dear Diary,
You won’t believe what I had done today! Today, as usual I woke up early and
went for a walk. After I returned home, I saw a kitten mewing outside the gate. I
had felt pity on it because it was abandoned and left to meet its own needs. I wanted
to take it home but my parents won’t allow it. So, I decided to sneak it in.
I went inside and got a cushion for the kitten and laid it inside a thorny bush. Then
I laid the kitten on the cushion and went inside and went inside to get a glass of
milk and some of my pocket money. I gave the milk to the kitten and went to a
shop and bought some food for the cat. It was nice to have someone to look after
to.
I feel really responsible for the kitten but I can’t keep it for a long time and so I
decided to give away the kitten to an adoption centre. I will miss it but nature is
nature and it can’t be changed.

My favorite place of visit - Goa
Goa is located on the country’s southwestern coast and offshore island. It is one of
the smallest states in India. The capital is Panaji on the north – central coast of
the mainland district. It is bounded by the states of Maharashtra on the north and
Karnataka on the east and south and by the Arabian Sea on the west.
The first thing I like about Goa is its climate. Goa’s climate is equable, with high
temperature generally in the 80s F(30sc) and low temperatures generally in the
70sF(20SC) through the year. The second thing I like about Goa is its Economy
Agriculture remains mainstay of Goa’s
economy with rice, fruits (such as
mangoes), crops.
One of the best places in Goa except the
beaches I think is Panaji. It is also known
as Panajim. It is located on the banks of the
Mandavi River. The city has cobblestone
streets lined with colorful villas and
buildings from the Portugese colonial era.
Palm –fringed Miramar Beach sits at the
confluence of the river Arabian Sea. Set on
a hill overlooking the city is the baroque

church, built in1619.
Last but not the least, Goa’s food is awesome. If you go there, you will get to see
a variety of foods. For ex- Goa’s Fish curry. The Goa’s fish curry or the Xitti Kodi
is the staple diet of every Goan. The goan fish curry is loaded with various spices
along with coconut. Raw mango is also used to give the dish a tangy flavor. The
main ingredients of the dish are a decent sized Pamfret and Raw mango. Instead
of Pamfret, kingfish may also be used. This goan dish is served along with rice.
It is no wonder that my favorite place is also known as “Peart of the Orient” and a
“Tourist Pradise”.

According to me the most heart touching book is Wonder which is written by R.J.
Palacio. This Wonder talks about a boy with facial abnormalities named August
who was homeschooled until he reaches fifth grade, when his parents send him to
a school. This book tells us about his adventures in school and...want to know
more? Then just read the book! This book also takes us through the fundamental
truths of how humans behave and how they should behave.

KERALA- The Country of Gods
My favourite place to visit is Kerala. Known for its palm-lined beaches and
backwaters, Kerala is also known for wildlife. Kerala’s capital
Thiruvananthapuram is distinguished by its British colonial architecture and many
art galleries. It is also home to the varied types of landforms.
With the Western Ghats at an elevation of 2700m from sea level on its east and
the Arabian Sea on its west and south, Kerala has 44 rivers which give this land a
beautiful diversified landscape. It is no exaggeration to call this beautiful part of
the world as 'God's Own Country'. Not only does Kerala provide us with beaches
like Kovalam, Kochi and Varkala beach but it also provides us with green lushes of
tea and coffee plantations like Munnar.
Munnar is a town and hill station
located in the Idukki district of the
southwestern Indian state of Kerala.
Munnar is situated at around 1,600
metres (5,200 ft) above mean sea level,
in the Western Ghats mountain range.
Munnar is also called the "Kashmir of
South India". Kerala is also popular for
Wildlife and provides us with beautiful
wildlife sanctuaries like Chinnar
Wildlife Sanctuary, Madhumalai
national park, Wayanand Wildlife
Sanctuary etc… not only that but
Kerala provides us with mouth-
watering food like Puttu, Appam,
idiyappam, the famous Shrimp curry
and many other savouring recipes of food. It also provides us with sweet,
refreshing coconut water. The women of Kerala wear traditional costume called
Mundum Neriyathum and the men of Kerala wear Lungi, locally known as Kaili
or Kalli Mundu. They speak Malyalam. the main festivals they celebrate is Onam,
Vishu, Thrissur Poonam, Christmas and many other festivals.Rich in culture and
heritage, Kerala is a popular holiday destination. Well that’s why it is said “When
you hear the name of India, your heart must swell with pride. When you hear the
name of Kerala, the blood must throb in your veins”

Rebels are people who prove the nation that everyone has to have the equal amount
of rights. But not just it, they are strong, intelligent, beautiful, and many more.

for living. There are some who think being a rebel is easy and people become rebels
to become popular but in my opinion I don't think it's true. I feel being a rebel is

Topic: My Favorite Place
Do you have a favourite place which you like to visit often? Well, I do and it's
U.S.A – United States of America.
U.S.A is just not one place it has different States in it .Hence it is called the United
States. It is one of the most known place in the world. It is highly developed and
almost pretty much crowded. It is in the continent of North America and it shares
the border with Canada on the top and Mexico
at the bottom.
The first state which I like is Texas which is
very spacious and not much of crowded. It has
a very famous Race track named Texas Motor
Speedway, where all the “NASCAR" events
happen which I like so much. It is very famous
over in Texas.
The second state which I like is Nevada.
Nevada is a developed city but it is mostly known for its casinos and the desert
which surrounds it. The Nevada desert is famous for its “Mysterious Area 51”, it
is hidden between the sand dunes and mountains which is under the control of
Government, highly prohibited to enter anyone. It is set for Alien researches.
The third favourite state is California. Majority of US citizen’s population is there
most specifically in Los Angeles. Although it is an over populated but people love
to live there because of its classy rich lifestyle.
In fact, I like not only these three States but all of them.

The silent streets
It was a crisp autumn day.
I was walking on the silent streets,

The picturesque scenery really has been relaxing me,

technology with each coming year has
affected humanity in many ways. A
direct result of this has been increased
lifespan and the growth of the population. In the past fifty or so years, the growth
of population has boomed and has turned into overpopulation. In the history of our
species, the birth and death rate have always been able to balance each and
maintain a population growth rate that is sustainable. Since the time of the Bubonic
Plague in the 1400’s, the growth of population has been on a constant increase.
Developing nations face the problem of overpopulation more than developed
countries, but it affects most of the Earth as of now. When we are talking about
overpopulation, we should first understand the causes of it. Now let’s know the
effects of overpopulation.
The effects of overpopulation are quite severe. The earth produces only a limited
amount of resources like food and water which is a shortage in our lives.
Overpopulation also affects our lives as many of us travel in vehicles which

Save Water- Are We Doing Enough?
Water is the most precious gift of god. Life exist because of the availability of
water. Though water is countless, odorless it adds colour to everything on earth.
Many people are living than they need weather in the world’s most popular cities
or countries with beautiful agriculture fields.
Droughts have been more frequent and serve and are affecting thousands of
people across the globe as many as four billion people live in drough5t affected
areas and it’s on the increase. With the rising population, the water stress is only
going to mount.
There are different methods with which we can solve the water crisis. They
include rain harvesting, recycling water and purification of drinking water.
Afforestation is also good method that reduces surface area and recharges the
ground.
By practicing these we can conserve pure drinking water for our future

Tortoise and The Bird
A tortoise was resting under the tree, on
which a bird had built its nest. The
tortoise spoke to the bird mocking “what”
worse is that you had it build it yourself.
I think my house which is my shell is
much better than your nest. “Yes” it is
made up of broken sticks, looks shabby
and is open to the element of nature. It is
crude, but I built it, and I like it. “I guess
it’s just like any other nest, but not better
than mine,” said the tortoise. “You must
be jealous of my shell though.”
“On the contrary” the bird replied. “My home has space for my family and
friends; your shell cannot accommodate anyone other than you. May be you have
a better house, but I have a better home” said the bird hopping happily.

tree should cross a bridge. Before that the bridge broke and
the tree got drowned. The tree shouted to the tree God. So
the tree God came and asked, what do you want the tree told.
Please help me and the tree God helped the tree and the tree
told take my legs, I don’t want legs. I will live in the forest
with my family and friends. So the tree God took legs of the tree

The Dog Who Saved the Day
One day a dog named Carl wanted to attend a world class
dog university, but for that he needed to take a test. A
really hard test. He needed to lead one blind folded person
from one side of the room to the other side of the room.
Perfecting his routine, but when the day finally came
things didn’t work as he planned. He tripped over a cone,
he had to dodge and the person who he was leading got a
fracture. The headmaster took him out immediately. Carl
was really sad. When he got out of the school, he saw a
blind lady lost on the road with a car speeding against her. There was no time to
waste. This time he didn’t do any mistake and lead the; lady to the other side of
the road with ease. Because when he made mistakes he learned from it. While this
was happening the guard called the headmaster to see what was happening
secretly. After this happened the headmaster gave Carl an award and named him
the “best dog of the world”.

Once upon a time when the world was new, the cobras used to have fins. This made
them eating eggs a lot easier. They used to have a colourful substance with
fragrance which was edible. It had a delicious taste. The snake except itself gave
the beautiful gift to no one. What a greedy and selfish snake. The animals
murmured under their breath. Once the snake was swimming under the sea, he
spotted a fish. He swooped down and swallowed the fish. The poor fish was
pregnant. At that time the fishes did not have fins. The fish cursed the cobra and
said,” my child will have your fins and your sweet substance will turn into poison.”
Saying this the fish gave birth to the baby and died. The snake spat out the the
baby and cried over his fate. That’s how the cobra lost its fins.

Once there was a girl named Amilea. Amilea always dreamt of becoming famous.
Once Amilea was bored she went to the kitchen to see what she could do, there she
saw some spaghetti she cooked it, then she felt
it boring without toppings, so she looked
around the kitchen, she saw some sauce and
beside it were meat balls, then she spotted
some chilli flakes, she gathered all the spicy stuff
in the kitchen and added them and ate the
spaghetti. After sometime she realized
that there was a feast the next day. She cooked the
spaghetti. She took a 5- litre jar she mixed all the cool drinks and put them in the
jar. She made some more dishes and served them in the feast. Amilea didn’t know
that her uncle was a newspaper manager. He was world famous. His newspaper
would go everywhere. When he tasted the dishes he published them in the Daily
newspaper. Amilea became world famous. When she grew up she became a master

Once upon a time I and my family were living happily in our
house. The first day when we bought that house we felt weird stuff
happening there was a room from which weird sounds used to
come and one day my mom was sleeping in that room and then I
thought I should also take a nap so I went and suddenly I saw a
black shadow and I screamed my mom woke up and my family
came in the room when I saw that shadow it had red eyes and when it disappeared
my eyes became red and I got possessed for 5 days when I came back to my own
body I felt someone had been whispering in my ear and I heard.
“GO TO YOUR STORE ROOM” I went there and I saw something that was
really disturbing.
I saw my cousin unconscious and bleeding from his head and he was admitted in
the hospital.

My Book Review
I read a book named the witches by Roald dhal. it was a little scary but should be
elaborated at the end. The most interesting part of the book was that when the
boy got changed into a mouse by the boss witch. She was cruel mean and filthy.
My favorite character in the story was the boy’s grandma she was kind and helpful.
If I was an author, I would like to add a little more content in the book, if I was a
part of the story the I would like to be the boy as he had lots of adventures. If you

Recycling is a way to reuse stuff. Recycling has been very useful as it reduces
‘Produce-Consume-Dispose’ to a ‘Recover-Reuse-Recycle-Redesign-
Remanufacture ‘which is more regenerative in nature. Unfortunately recycling has
proven that it’s quite costly. It involves large hidden costs in collecting, sorting
and manufacturing; therefore, it is necessary for government to overcome such
problems of recycling to be worthwhile. Recycling has proven its efficiency in
solving the problems of garbage disposal on landfills. The process of recycling
goes through many phases.
First there is collecting and sorting of garbage and then is manufacturing and
marketing. The garbage must be collected in proper manner. This sorting process
requires lots of manpower and tools, both of which are very expensive. We can’t
simply put everything into a big machine and “boom” we have recycled material.
Everything needs to be sorted and put separately into recycling machine.
Manufacturing and Marketing is the second phase in this process.so factories that
produce recycled products, are quite expensive plus it takes time because of the
latest technology. The recycled materials are not highly demanded because of
their quality as they are not good as the original material for ex. Recycled paper as
it undergoes four processes. So recycled paper is of lower quality than the original
paper and it cannot be used for long. So if the marketing of recycled products is
not economically worthwhile then the whole process of recycling can’t be
economically efficient.
While India provides a tremendous potential for reuse and recycling of products,
there is a felt need of strong social awareness regarding recycling...

Dr. Prakash Amte is a Ramon Magsaysay award winner. He dedicated his entire life
to help the tribal group of Madia Gond of Hemalkasa and made their lives
comfortable. He left the homely comforts of the city and shifted to Hemalkasa. The
forest was the home for tribals as well as many wild animals. Hunting was the main
source of food for the tribal people as they knew nothing about farming and animal
rearing. It was not only the root cause of their health problems but was also affecting
the balance of the forest. Hence, it was important to ensure animal conservation and
rehabilitation. It is an interesting story how he got his first animal. One day he saw
some tribals carrying a pair of baboons. One of the baboons was a female. She had a
baby and it was clinging to her body. It was a pitiful sight. He asked them to give the
baby to him and eat the bigger animals. Dr. Amte took care of it and named it Bablee.
Till the time the tribals
understand good food habits,
he convinced them to kill only
bigger animals and give them the
babies. He got fawns, species of
squirrels called Devkharis, a
bear named Rani , Asian antelope , peacocks , various types of deer, fox , hyenas ,
snakes, crocodiles and some leopards named Negal ,Raja and Negali together they
gave six cubs in the safe environment to these wild animals. Dr. Amte and his team
took care of all the animals with unconditional love and immense care. There was
harmony and feeling of togetherness with humans and animals. He takes care of these
animals and provide them with safe place till they become capable of surviving in the
natural habitat and release them back into the forest when they are ready. He has
witness many stories where a monkey, deer or even a hornbill who once stayed with
them show signs of recognition years after going back to the forest. r. Amte is true
inspiration for all of us, he reiterates the power of unconditional love. He calls it
animal orphanage, which his friends fondly call as
Amte’s animal ark.

Soon Siddharth became part of the village team and started playing the matches.
He soon became a very famous cricket player of the village and soon of the state
and finally of the country.

Interesting Future
I invented a time door which took me to 100 years into the future. Now I am in
2200 and my clothes have changed and everything around me have also changed.
There are hardly any trees around me and all the people are wearing masks.
Some robots are serving food. Since I am hungry I went upto there and saw that
they are serving capsules of food. The robot extended a capsule to me and it was
written sandwich on it. I was puzzled but I put it in m y mouth and it actually
tasted like a burger and after having it I felt that I was hungry no more!
Somehow I didn’t like the future and so I went to the door and came back to
2020.

The book ‘7 Crystal Balls’ is very adventurous and amazing comic. There were many mysteries
and detective cases like the stolen casket and the missing Doctor Calculus. The suspense stories
are very well presented. For example, the reader doesn’t know that if calculus is alive or dead
and about the people who are attacked by the crystal balls. The author presented it very well
and all kids enjoy reading this. In the book, Tin Tin even though is a teenager he is very brave
and intelligent. He is always with his dog snowy. They both along with other friends solve the
mysteries behind those mysteries. My opinion about the book is very good reading for everyone
to read it and has a lot of mysteries and detective cases. It keeps you occupied and it is very easy
to visualize and think about various characters and stories involved like the stolen casket and
the missing Doctor Calculus. I like the characters depicted as Thompson and Thomson very
much and help Tin Tin in guiding to solve the mysteries.
If we see the people around us, we can easily notice that different people have
different skin color. Why is so?
Human skin color can range from almost black to pinkish white in different people.
In general, people with ancestors from sunny regions have darker skin than people
with ancestors from regions with less sunlight. On average, women have slightly
lighter skin than men.
Skin color is determined by the amount and type of the pigment melanin in the
skin. Melanin comes in two types: phaeomelanin (red to yellow) and eumelanin
(dark brown to black). Both amount and type are determined by multiple genes.
One copy of each of those genes is inherited from the father and one from the
mother. The combination results into great variety of different skin colors.
Melanin's purpose is to protect the skin from the Sun's harmful UV rays and it
works like a natural sunscreen by absorbing these UV rays. The more melanin
your skin has, the darker your skin will be and the more protection it will have
against UV rays.
Light skinned persons have tenfold greater risk of skin cancer and other skin
problems. The advantage of light skin is that it lets more sunlight through, which
leads to increased production of vitamin D3, necessary for calcium absorption and
bone growth. Dark-skinned people who live in sun-poor regions often lack vitamin
D3, one reason for the fortification of milk with vitamin D in some countries. Skin
color has been a reason for discrimination in various parts of the world. However,
as mentioned above it’s just our body’s mechanism to fight with harmful UV rays
and each skin color has its own pros and cons. Light skin color increases the risk
of skin diseases and on the other hand, dark color is less efficient in producing
vitamin D3. Hence, we should never discriminate based on skin color.

Black Holes
A black hole is a region of space-time exhibiting a gravitational acceleration so strong
that nothing can reach its escape velocity- not even light!
This gravity is so strong because the matter of a gigantic star is squeezed into an
infinitely dense point known as a singularity. This pulls more objects into the black hole.
Because no light can escape, a black hole is basically invisible even to the strongest
telescopes. Some specialized instruments detect the radiation of a black hole- proving that
they exist!
A black hole is a place where the laws of physics as we know them break down. Einstein
taught us that gravity warps space itself, causing it to curve. So, given a dense enough
object, space-time can become so warped that it twists in on itself, burrowing a hole
through the very fabric of reality.
A massive star that has run out of fuel can produce the kind of extreme density needed to
create such a mangled bit of world. As it buckles under its own weight and collapses
inward, space-time caves in with it. The gravitational field becomes so strong that not
As you go deeper into the black hole, space becomes ever curvier.
The outermost boundary of the hole is its event horizon, the point at which the
gravitational force precisely counteracts the light's efforts to escape it. Go closer than this,
and there's no escape.
The event horizon is ablaze with energy. Quantum effects at the edge create streams of
hot particles that radiate back out into the universe. This is called Hawking radiation,
after the physicist Stephen Hawking, who predicted it. Given enough time, the black hole
will radiate away its mass, and vanish.
