INTRODUCTION

In order to make the exchanges easier in West Africa , 8 countries
belonging to West African Economic and Monetary Union
(WEAMU) and using the same currency decide to create together a
central bank called CBWAS (Central Bank of West African States)
which is an international public institution.
The CBWAS has been created by 8 countries : Bénin, Burkina Faso, Côte
d’Ivoire, Guinée-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Sénégal, Togo on May 12th 1962
and its headquarter is in Dakar (Sénégal).
The currency use is the CFA and the governor is Tiemoko Meyliet Koné
from Côte d’Ivoire since 2011.
The CBWAS :

Manages the official foreign exchange reserves of the WEAMU
states ;
The Governor :
He is the president of the Monetary Policy Committee and the
Board of Directors. He works with Vice-Governors. The Governor is
named for 6 years by the Conference of Heads of States and
Governments of all the members of the CBWAS ;
The Vice-Governors :
They are named for 5 years and assist the Governor for preparing
and making decisions of the Boards and Committees of the
CBWAS ;

The Board of Directors :
It is in charge of all the questions related to the management of the
CBWAS ;

CONCLUSION
The CBWAS (Central Bank of West African States), created in
May 1962 , permits to all the 8 west african states to unify their rules
and make easier the exchanges between the countries. This public
institution is managed by five organs (the Governor , the Vice-
Governors , the Board of Directors, the Audit Committee, the Monetary
Policy Committee and the National Credit Council).
