Manufacturing Quality Control (MQC)
Quality Statement
Serrot International is dedicated to an objective of continuous commitment to quality. This dedication begins with the
manufacture of the geomembrane material and ends only when our customer has accepted the liner. The employees
of Serrot International, therefore, endorse and require a policy of Total Quality. This policy is based on the principle
that quality is the fundamental responsibility of every department and is carried out by each person in that department.
Programs and procedures designed to implement this quality principle are developed by the Quality Control
Department and are utilized by every employee of the Company.
Serrot International’s laboratories are accredited by the Geosynthetic Accreditation Institute Lab Accreditation
Program (GAI-LAP). Serrot International’s Manufacturing and Installation processes are ISO 9002 registered.
Organization
Persons performing quality-related functions have sufficient authority and organizational freedom to: (1) identify
quality programs; (2) initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels; (3) verify
implementation of solutions; (4) control further work when required. The person responsible for defining and
measuring the overall effectiveness of the Quality Program is the Quality Control Manager.
Key personnel include the President, Vice President – Operations, Voice President – Engineering, Manufacturing
Manager, Quality Control Manager, Product Development Manager, Regional Managers, Project Managers, and
the Safety Manager. Resumes of key personnel are provided when requested or required by project specifications.
Quality Control Program
1. Geonet Manufacturing Quality Control
1.1 Serrot International manufactures HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) geonet materials in rolls for
specific projects. Documentation is required showing that the material meets the required specification.
1.2 The geonet shall consist of quality products designed and manufactured specifically for the purpose of this
work, as satisfactorily demonstrated by prior use. The geonet shall be high density polyethylene (HDPE).
1.3 The geonet shall be manufactured continuously in widths of approximately 14.0 feet wide. The roll
length shall be maximized to provide sufficient number of rolls on a truckload. All rolls shall be
identified with a unique roll number printed on a label affixed to the inside and outside of the roll
showing manufacturer and material type.
2. Raw Materials
2.1 A quality resin shall be used in the manufacture of the geonet. The resin shall be designed and
manufactured specifically for the intended purpose. When the resin is delivered, it shall be tested
for the following properties to determine it meets the required specification:
PROPERTIES TEST METHOD TEST FREQUENCY
Density ASTM D792/D1505 1 per Resin Batch
Melt Flow Index ASTM D1238 1 per Resin Batch
2.2 Results from testing shall be recorded on the relevant form.

3. Geonet Testing

October 27, 2000 3

3.1 The following tests are performed as POLY-NET is produced.
PROPERTIES TEST METHOD TEST FREQUENCY
Thickness ASTM D5199 40,000 sq. ft.
Mass Per Unit Area ASTM D5261 40,000 sq. ft.
Density ASTM D792/D1505 40,000 sq. ft.
Carbon Black ASTM D1603/D4218 40,000 sq. ft.
Content
Tensile Strength ASTM D5035 40,000 sq. ft.
Transmissivity ASTM D4716 1 per shift
3.2 Results from testing are recorded on the relevant form. All test results for the material shall refer to
the relevant roll number.
4. Plant Storage and Handling
4.1 Rolls of material are handled with equipment that will not damage the material.
4.2 The storage area shall be reasonably flat and free of sharp rocks or other objects that could
damage the material.
4.3 Care shall be taken to avoid entrapment of mud, stones, and other debris in the geonet.

Installation Procedures

1.0 Quality Assurance

Prior to installation, the installer will provide the owner (or owner’s representative) for approval, the
name of the geonet manufacturer and the manufacturer’s specifications for the product to be installed.
2.0 Labeling
Each roll of geonet shall be labeled with the following:
Manufacturer
Product Identification
Roll Dimension
Unique Roll Number
3.0 Shipping and Storage
Geonet shall be shipped and stored in such a manner that the material is protected from damage.
Stacking should always allow access to at least one end of each roll. Geonet does not need to be
protected from UV degradation. Stacking should always allow access to at least one end of each roll.
Rolls of material are handled with equipment that will not damage the geonet. Fabric straps,
spreader-bar, stinger-bar, or other approved apparatus are used for handling rolls of geonet.
A storage area is required that is reasonably flat, dry, and well drained. The surface should be
reasonably free of sharp rocks or other objects that could damage the geonet.
The storage area must be as close as practical to the work area to minimize on site handling. The
storage area must be secure to prevent vandalism, theft, and must be such that rolls are unlikely to
be damaged by passing vehicles.
4.0 Installation
4.1 Geonet shall be handled in such a manner as to ensure that it is not damaged in any way.
A. On slopes, the material shall be anchored in the anchor trench then rolled down the
slope in such a manner as to continually keep the material in tension.
B. In the presence of wind the leading edge of the material shall be weighted with
sandbags until final cover is placed.
C. Care shall be taken to assure that any underlying layers are not damaged during placement.
4.2 Geonet edges will be lapped as require by the job specifications. At a minimum 2 inches
on the floor and 4 inches on slopes. On slopes the ends of the materials shall be shingled,
with edges of adjacent downhill panels on top.
4.3 For geonet plastic ties shall be applied to the overlapped edges at 5 foot intervals.
4.4 End to end splice shall be made by overlapping the material a minimum of one foot and
applying two rows of cable ties at one foot intervals
4.5 Serrot International uses low ground pressure machines such as ATV’s or tractors to
facilitate deployment over other geosynthetic layers. Low ground pressure devices are
machines with less than 7 psi per wheel when carrying a driver weighing approximately

150 lbs. The typical specification for equipment working directly over the geosynthetics
placing cover material is 7 psi. Using low ground pressure machines also results in a safer
work environment. Utilizing low ground pressure machine results in less exertion by field
personnel thus reducing the potential for strain related injuries.
5.0 Repairs
Any holes or tears in the geonet/geocomposite shall be repaired using the same geonet. The
patch shall be a minimum of 6 inches larger in all directions than the area to be repaired. The
patch shall be tied in place using a minimum of 8 cable ties.
6.0 Placement of Cover Material
Any cover material such as soil that is placed over the geonet shall be placed in such a manner as
to assure that it is not damaged.
Care shall be taken to minimize any slippage of the geonet and to assure that no tensile stress is
induced in the material.
