Isaac Newton
Sir Isaac Newton was an English mathematician, astronomer, theologian, author, and
physicist, who is widely recognized as one of the most influential scientists of all time and a
key figure in the scientific (1) revolution. His book, Philosophiae Naturalis Principia
Mathematica is considered to be the most influential book in the history of science. In this
work, Newton described (2) universal gravitation and the three laws of motion, laying the
groundwork for classical mechanics, which dominated the scientific view of the physical (3)
universe for the next three centuries and is the basis for modern engineering. Newton
showed that the motions of objects on Earth and of celestial bodies are governed by the
same set of natural laws by demostrating the consistency (4) between Kepler’s laws of
planetary (5) motion and his theory of gravitation.
2. What is the kinetic energy of a 3-kg object moving at constant speed 10 m/s2?
Answer: 150 Joule
