Situation
A taconite mine utilizes 48 CAT production haul trucks.
These haul trucks can burn in excess of 100 gallons per
hour at full load. The customer worked in partnership
with ExxonMobil to study how a synthetic SAE 5W-40
engine oil can improve fuel efficiency compared to a
conventional SAE 15W-40 engine oil. A fuel economy
study was then conducted on a CAT 3516 B HD
EUI engine using an engine dynamometer and high
