Public Health Ethics

End of term final Examination

Select any one of the listed programmes and write a case study or essay based on your representation of
the ethical implications of the public health programme selected.

Outline for Writing Case study/Essay

Length: About 1000 words - not including figures and tables. However, there is no penalty for exceeding
word limit.

No. of pages – maximum 3 pages A4 (excluding tables, figures, maps, original case of public health
practice from which the ethical dilemma is derived, etc)

Contents

Background:

Geographical location – in terms of country/district etc (provide maps if necessary) and also the
demographic and political economic and health characteristics and health systems characteristics – if
relevant to the case

The Problem:

The public health context – including a short description of the health system and public health policy in
question
(use citations if necessary and cite them using footnotes on the same page)

The Discussion:

What are the possible Public Health Implications of the policy or programme.

The Ethical Dilemma:

What are the moral/ethical dilemmas in implementing the policy or programme

Questions:

Some questions that would help to highlight the ethical dilemmas with respect to the problem being
discussed.
