Design a Line
Color Scheme
Design details (at least 2):
This outfit has a cropped top that ends at
the natural waist with large puff sleeves.
The pants are high waisted with a lapped
zipper and wide legs.
What is unique?
The sleeves are unique to this piece due
to the elastic located toward the bottom
of the sleeve which brings the sleeve in
and creates a ruffling effect on the hem
area of the sleeve.
What is the color scheme and what
colors are used to create it?
I used a monochromatic color scheme
which was created with different tones,
shades, and tints of the color blue.

Describe the fabric.

The first fabric is a swiss dot in pastel
blue that is 56” wide and 100% cotton.
Also, it is very lightweight only weighing
3.4 oz/yd. Swiss dot has little “clip” dots
which adds texture and depth to a
design.
Second fabric is in the color family of
blue, gray with a horizontal repeat of
5.88 inches and a vertical repeat of 6.25
inches. This fabric is a 100% cotton with a
floral print and is 55” wide.
Why is this fabric appropriate for your
design?
This fabric is appropriate for my design
because I designed resort wear for this
collection. Due to the fiber contents of
each of these fabrics they are great for
resort wear. Not to mention the colors
are bright and have either texture or
pattern which adds to the overall design.

Structural Lines
Design details (at least 2):
Straight leg pants are accented with
flared cuffs and an invisible zipper. The
suit jacket has princess seams and a
notched lapel. While the sleeves are a
slight bell sleeve which adds volume to
the overall slimming design.
What is unique?
The slight bell sleeves on this suit jacket
makes this ensemble unique by adding
volume to a slimming and fitted suit.
Which lines are predominant and what
effect does that have on the garment?
The lines that are predominant in these
garments are the princess seams that
follow all the way down the pants to the
cuff. Along with the princess seams the
line of the natural waist is also
predominant in this design. In this
garment having the princess seams be
the predominant line and following that
line down the leg creates length and
accents the curves of a woman’s body
nicely. The line at the waist creates a
contrast with its horizontal line to the
vertical structural lines found in the rest
of these garments. The cuffs on the pants
do this as well.
Describe the fabric.
The suit uses a pink seersucker fabric
which weighs only 4.3 oz/yd and is a
lightweight material that is a summer
staple. It is cool and comfortable which is
why it is has been loved for summer
fashions for generations. It is a yard dyed
fabric with a cotton poly blend, 65%
polyester 35% cotton, and is preshrunk.
Why is this fabric appropriate for your
design?
This fabric is appropriate for this design
because it is the perfect fabric to create a
classic summer suit with a modern twist.
The seersucker suit goes back to 1907 so
it is a long-time summer classic. Also, the
texture that is added to the design
through the fabric creates depth to the
design.

Asymmetrical Balance
Design details (at least 2):
This sheath midi dress is complemented by an
asymmetrical v-neckline and ruffle hem. The
short flutter sleeves are reinforced with
interfacing and are double lined to create a
more structured sleeve.
What is unique?
The stiff sleeves that come out form the
shoulders creates a unique look to this
asymmetrical design.
How is asymmetrical balance achieved in the
garment?
Asymmetrical balance is achieved through the
offset of the neckline to the hemline of the
dress. The balance that is created through
offsetting the diagonal lines from each other
creates a balance to the overall dress.

The first fabric is a swiss dot in pastel blue that

What is unique?
The cape sleeves are unique and add

The bow detail on the front of the dress
near the waist line creates the focal
point.

swiss dot in the color rose. This fabric is
very lightweight at 3.2 oz/yd with a width
of 54”. The bow focal point is made out
of a pink and green cotton poplin. It has
been digitally printed with wild flowers in
pink, white and green to create a realistic
illustration. This fabric has a soft smooth
hand with a flexible drape and is made in
Spain. It is thing and lightweight not to
mention breathable. It is made from
100% cotton.
Why is this fabric appropriate for your
design?
This fabric is appropriate for my design
because I designed resort wear for this
collection. Due to the fiber contents of
each of these fabrics they are great for
resort wear. Not to mention the colors
are bright and have either texture or
pattern which adds to the overall design.
The pattern of the fabric for the bow
creates a bigger focal point because of
contrast between the solid color with
texture and this print.

Rhythm
Design details (at least 2):

short sleeves. It has a jewel neckline with
classic short sleeves and scalloped hems.
What is unique?
The two layers of the a line skirts creates
a unique element to the design especially
with the scalloped hems on each of
them.
What type of rhythm did you illustrate?
What effect does it have on the
garment?
Rhythm through repetition. This is made
possible through the repetition of the
scallops on the skirt and will be also
manifested by created stripes with strips
of fabric attached together in a vertical
striped pattern. It creates a cohesive yet
