1.Give one example for each of the following:


 Unconscious human bias
 Conscious human bias
 Machine bias

Answer :

Biases:
These are the prejudice for or against one person or group, considered to be unfair.

Types of Biases:
• Unconscious Human Bias: are cognitive biases that exist in our subconscious.
Example: Attribution Bias

• Conscious Human Bias: are biases which is to be aware , intentional and responsive.
Example: Racism

• Machine/AI Bias: it occurs when an algorithm’s results are prejudiced due to false
assumptions in the machine learning process.
Example: Racist soap dispenser

2.Think about design problems with objects that you know or use. Choose ONE item –
it could be your smart ‘phone, your Blu-Ray player, virtual reality headset, or the door
to your home. Write a short summary (approx. 100 words) of the problem in design of
your chosen item according to your analysis.  Suggest a solution.

Deliverable: You should be able to answer the following questions:


 A description of the item and the design problem it exhibits
 Suggested solution(s) to overcome the design problem
 A photo of the item

Answer :
Usually when I bought this type of pen, I subconsciously would press the upper most part of
the pen. Which then released the ball point of the pen and I could start writing. But not on this
pen, though it may not seem like a lot but the fact that I had go through a learning curve
consciously was an oddball.
The pen writes better than some of the other pens on the market but I think the manufacturers
should stick with the common pen mechanism.
