Advantages And Disadvantages Of Multi-stage Compression

What is a multi-stage compression?

The so-called multi-stage compression, that is, depending on the desired pressure to
the cylinder of the compressor is divided into several stages, progressively increasing
the pressure. And the establishment of the inter cooler after each compression stage,
each stage of cooling the high temperature gas after compression. This can reduce the
exhaust temperature of each stage.

Why multi-stage compression?

Single-stage compressor to a high pressure of the gas pressure must increase the
compression ratio, the temperature of the compressed gas will rise very high. Greater
than the gas pressure increases, the gas temperature rise even higher. When the end of
the temperature and pressure ratio exceeds a certain value, the gas will be compressed
more than the general compressor lubricants flash point (200 ~ 240 ℃), oil will be
burned carbon residue, causing lubrication difficulties.

Multi-stage compression advantages:

1. A saving power consumption
2. Improve the utilization of the volume of the cylinder

3. reduces exhaust temperature
4. reduce the role of the force on the piston rod gas

Disadvantages of the multi-stage compression;

1. An increase in the complexity of the compressor body;
2. consumed in increased piping, equipment, valves in the resistance loss;
3. manufacturing costs and operating costs increased significantly.
