EN 81-73: Behaviour of lifts in the event of fire

The control circuits of lifts which may be used in the event of fire must be designed and manufactured so that lifts may be
prevented from stopping at certain levels and allow for priority control of the lift by rescue teams.
NOTE:
See Emergency fireman operation section for operation details

Lift with interface to a fire detection

If your lift has been designed to meet EN81-73, it has been interfaced to a manual recall device or an automatic fire alarm
control system.
This pictogram will be displayed at each landing:

"Do not use lift

in the event of fire!"
On receipt of a signal from the manual recall service or an automatic fire alarm control system, your lift reacts as follows:

 all landing and car controls including the door re-open button will be rendered inoperative
 any registered call will be cancelled
 door reversal devices which may be affected by heat or smoke will become inoperative
 if your lift is of the hydraulic type, the automatic dispatching system will become inoperative
 the car will close the door and travel to the floor defined as the designated floor by the building management system.
The designated floor will have been agreed during the design process between Otis and the specifier or by the building
management system
 If the lift is travelling away from the designated floor when the input signal is received, the car will make a normal stop
and reverse its direction at the nearest possible landing without opening the door and return to the designated landing
 If the lift is travelling towards the designated landing when the input signal is received, the car will continue its travel
non stop to the designated landing.

On arrival at the designated landing the car will be removed from service. A "no entry" sign will be illuminated.

NOTE:
Unless national regulations say differently, the lift car will park at the designated floor, with doors open.
The lift can be reset to normal operation by a signal from the fire detection system or an authorised person resetting the manual
recall device.
