Welcome to

Wellthy Boss!
My name’s Mariah, and I’m here to help
guide you through the world of putting your
health and fitness knowledge to work on
YouTube.

While starting a YouTube fitness channel can

seem overwhelming at first, it truly doesn’t
have to be!

2
The important thing is just to get started.

I procrastinated putting my workouts on YouTube for YEARS because I didn’t think I had
the right camera, set-up, or tech knowledge to make my videos look pretty.

But guess what? One of my first (and worst-produced) workout videos actually still ranks
in my top 5 most watched videos!

My husband had been fussing at me all this time, saying “Your videos are good enough.
They should be seen.”

And you know what? So are yours.

Here are 6 insanely simple tools I use on the regular to help me share my imperfect
workout videos to what is now thousands of viewers each month.

(Note: Any tool an asterisk (*) by the title indicates that I am an affiliate, meaning that I
earn a referral bonus for recommending it should you choose to use it. Your trust means
much more to me than earning a couple bucks, so please rest assured that I will only
enter into affiliate partnerships for tools I already use and was already recommending
anyway! Plus, these particular affiliate partnerships offer fantastic free versions that you
don’t even need to spend a cent on. Win-win!)

CONTENT PLANNING
TubeBuddy*

If you do nothing else to grow your YouTube channel, do this: research keywords before
you film. Your workout may be amazing, but unless people are specifically searching for
it, it may never be viewed.

How you choose keywords (which you’ll use in your YouTube video’s title, description,
and tags) can make all the difference between getting 0 views and 1000+ views.

By using a keyword planning tool such as the free version of TubeBuddy, you can input
potential keywords and see what kind of “grade” it gets to give you an idea of how your
video will perform.

Trello

Trello is the free task management software that I use to plan and organize my YouTube
workout videos (and everything else in my life!)

Instead of just turning on the camera and working out, I try to be strategic about plan-
ning my workout focus (especially as it relates to good keywords) and my choreography
ahead of time.

I also plan out one month’s worth of workout videos in one sitting (which I usually film
on a separate day), because life gets busy and you don’t want emergencies or those
last-minute class sub requests to derail you from producing consistent workout videos
for your audience!

P.S. I use Trello for way more than just planning my YouTube videos—click HERE for a
full tutorial on how I use the software to manage my to-do lists for my business, family,
meal planning, and more!

GRAPHICS
Canva

I couldn’t live without Canva! Canva is a graphic design tool for people who are terrible
at graphic design (hand way up!)

I use Canva to design my YouTube Custom Thumbnails (which you’ll want to do so your
videos stand out at a glance), as well as other social media posts that promote my latest
workout release.

IVORY MIX*

When I’m not using screenshots of the workout for my YouTube Custom Thumbnail
graphics, or when I need to create supporting social media posts or website pages that
look professional, I use Ivory Mix for gorgeous high-end stock photography.

(Note: it’s very important for legal reasons that you don’t just take photos off of Google
Images or other internet sources that you don’t own licensing rights to, as this could set
you up for a costly intellectual property lawsuit. The odds you get caught are low, but the
risk is too high and respecting intellectual property law is the right thing to do.)

I’ve compared tons of stock photography sites, and Ivory Mix is my favorite for these rea-
sons:

• The images are gorgeous and create a consistent branded look for your business
• There is much more variety than any other membership site I’ve seen when it comes
to health and fitness categories.
• You can filter images by color, by content, or by collection.
• They have the lowest prices I’ve seen anywhere for stock images, and you get access
to the entire library instead of paying for each image individually.

6
• There is a free version that is better than most paid versions elsewhere!
• The owner/photographer Kayla did an interview on my podcast The Wellthy Boss
Show and is an amazingly thoughtful, mission-driven solo entrepreneur who’s doing
good things in the world.

MUSIC
Music is my little secret for instantly adding a dose of professionalism and extra wow-fac-
tor to my workout videos.

You wouldn’t teach a group fitness class without music, would you?

Including the right music on your YouTube workout videos can instantly improve your
viewer’s experience, resulting in them sticking with you for the remainder of the workout
(which, incidentally, improves your rankings in YouTube)!

Similarly to how you source your images, you need to make sure that you have legal ac-
cess to any music you use on your YouTube videos (or any social media videos, for that
matter.)

Not sure what you have legal access to? Unless it’s expressly written, you can assume you
don’t have the rights to put it in your video.

Play it safe and use one of these approved resources to find music that matches your
workout.

YouTube Audio Library

YouTube itself has an amazing free catalog of royalty-free music that you’re free to use.
Just note that some songs may require attribution—meaning that you’re free to use it as
long as you give credit to the composer wherever you play it. (See below.)

7
Personally, I usually only choose music that doesn’t require attribution so I don’t have to
keep track of it in my descriptions and risk getting in trouble. You can actually filter the
songs by “Attribution Not Required”. (See below.)

Epidemic Sound

While Epidemic Sound’s song catalog is not free (although they allow you to try a one-
month free trial), what I like about it is that you can sort it by tempo, which can save you
some time since most workout music should be in the neighborhood of 128-140 bpm
(beats per minute). You can also view the duration of the song when sorting through
your options. Personally, I wish they’d have more options within that bpm range, but I
do really like the music that is available. And the nominal monthly membership fee is a
small price to pay for keeping your video music safe and legal!
