WCDMA Performance
Management Based on
M2000
Contents
Objectives
Execute queries about the main key performance indicators of the WCDMA network.
Counter Categories
Counter
Performance measurement counter is a basic unit for the performance measurement. It defines
what to measure.
Counter categories
- Default counters.- It is also called KPI Counter; It contains some important counters
of the NE, and is in the state of measuring by default. Users can not deactivate its
measurement.
- Extended counters.- It is not in the state of measuring by default and users need to
activate it to be the measuring state. Users can also deactivate it.
In the table above, there are default counters, extended counters and user-defined counters.
By default, extended counters are not selected.
After the first installation, there is no User-Defined counter; By Performing arithmetic operation
on the system counters, user can create counters. These created counters are not delivered to the
NE and their results are not saved in the database, it is just a temporal calculation when queries;
Object
A measurement object can be the physical concept of a RNC or a subrack, or logical concept of
a cell. It defines whose counters to measure.
Period
A measurement period refers to the interval for NEs to report performance measurement results.
It defines how to measure.
Step 1: Choose Performance > Measure Management > measurement Settings to view the
Measure Management window,
After the object and period are appointed, counters can then be chosen
Check the counters you want to measure, and then click apply. The “Default counters” are
checked by default, so normally we only need to check the “Extended counters” and “User-defined
counters”.
By this step, you can view the measurement states of measurement units of each NE
Choose Performance > Measure Management > measurement Status
Select the subset on the navigation tree, and then you can view the measurement state of each NE.
Right click the measurement subset or NE, then you can active or suspend the measurement of
the subset or NE.
by template
by new conditions
You can use the default query template or a created user-defined template to query
measurement results, thus improving query efficiency
You can set new query conditions to query all the measurement results that meet the query
conditions in the performance database. You can save the query conditions as a template. In this
way, you can repeatedly use this template to query the related measurement results.
Querying by Template
Step 1 Choose Performance > Query Result, The template tree is on the left part of Query
Result window.
Step 2 You can select a template on the tree: Right-click the template and choose Query Result
> Default from the right click shortcut menu. Alternatively, double-click the selected template.
Step 2 Select the Custom node or a template under this node and right-click to select New Query to
display Query Result window.
Step 3 Select a function subset on the navigation tree in the left pane.
Step 4 Select the measurement object on the Object Settings tab and measurement counters in
the Counter Settings tab.
Step 5 On the Other Settings tab, select time.
Step 6 Click Query.
The queried measurement results are displayed in the Query Result window in the form of
tables, line charts, and bar chart.
To help query measurement results, you can subscribe to the measurement results in “Measure
Management” window.
Each client can open one subscription window. You can subscribe to the measurement results of
only one NE and one function subsets in each subscription window.
Step 2 Right-click a node on the navigation tree and choose Subscribe Result,
If some measurement results are missing after an M2000 upgrade or during a routine maintenance,
you can assign a synchronization task in the Measure Management window so that the missing
measurement results can be obtained. You can also directly synchronize the queried missing data in the
Result Query window.
You can also directly synchronize the queried missing data in the “Measurement Status” window.
Step2. Right-click a node on the navigation tree and choose Query Missing Result on the
shortcut menu.
Monitoring the integrity of current results.- Monitoring the integrity of measurement results refers
to checking the integrity of measurement results in a measurement period before the current time.
Querying the integrity of historical results.- is associated with the number of results to be
reported, number of results reported, and the ratio of the two numbers.
The Operation is similar with “integrity of current results monitoring”, the difference is: choose
“integrity query” but not “integrity monitor”.
The performance threshold is used to monitor the actual measurement result of the performance
counter. When the value of the measurement result exceeds that set by the user, the system generates
an alarm.
The threshold value of the performance counter can be the threshold value of a specific performance
counter or the threshold value of the combined performance counters.
When the system generates a higher level alarm, the lower level alarm will be cleared automatically.
On the M2000, the number of simple thresholds and combined thresholds that can be created is
limited. The sum of simple thresholds and combined thresholds must be equal to or smaller than 30.
Combined threshold indicates setting the threshold value for the counters after logic or arithmetic
operations.
When adding a threshold in “Add Threshold” dialog box, you need to change the “threshold type” to
“Combined”, and then edit the formula for a combined counter.
In this example, after “RAB SUCCESS RATE” is lower than 90%, the alarm is triggered, after it
exceeds 95%, the alarm is recovered.
Notice: When editing the formula, please pay attention to the format.
Suspend a threshold when it is not used temporarily, and then activate it if required.
Step 2 Click Suspend or Resume; Or right-click the threshold, then choose Suspend or Resume.
