Writing 1 (Unit 9)

There have been lots of times when I didn’t do things that needed to be done, however I
remember one of them and it was when I needed to do my Project of lab in the university but I
didn’t want to. It occurred two year ago, I got good grades in all my courses of the university I
had already passed five courses of six before the cycle finished and I just had to do my lab
Project to pass the mineral concentration course. I had one week until the time to present the
task finished and if you want to do a good Project you needed about two days at least, so I was
relaxed I had much free time to do it.

I belonged to the swimming team and how I didn’t have exams, I decided to join again. We had
competition with other universities, I trained with my friends for the competition daily and we
traveled to Piura for the last trainings in the main pool of the sporting event, we were
competing for almost a week and I had completely forgotten that I had to do my project
however I didn’t care it because I had already given all the exams before I trained for the
swimming competition, I thought that my grades were enough to pass the only course I was
missing to not failed any of the six courses I was taking that year, so I decided not to do the
project.

The day of the presentation arrived and of course I hadn’t done anything, I just wanted to see
my final grade. There were a lot of students in the class, so the professor didn’t have enough
time to interact with each student individually. Professor victor told us he expected us to
follow the rules in a mature manner if we intended to become learned people, he told us all
that while he was checking the projects of my partners , I was thinking he tried to say to us
when he showed all the grades on the projector of the class and then he left quickly, I saw the
screen with surprise I got 10.4 as a final grade, I needed 0.1 points to pass the course and half
of the class had failed the course, I didn’t believe that.

When I tried to submit the project one day late, the professor refused to accept it, that action
caused me to flunk the course, which naturally made me feel wretched. I asked my counselor
what to do, and her advice was to retake the course and to change my whole attitude toward
finishing necessary tasks. I took her advice, and many months later, conquered the
procrastination problem. Today I can say that I’m happy to have had professor victor as a
teacher, because I learned a great lesson.
Writing 2 (Unit 11)

The endangered species that I am most interested is the tiger although he is one of the most
powerful animals in the world, the tiger is an endangered species. Of the original nine
subspecies of tigers, three have become extinct in the last 80 years; an average of one every 20
years. It has been predicted all tigers may become extinct in the wild within the next decade.
Poaching, habitat loss and fragmentation have reduced the global population of tigers.

Today, four of the remaining subspecies of tigers are considered endangered by the IUCN
(International Union for Conservation of Nature) while two of the subspecies are considered
critically endangered. The total number of all the wild populations of the six remaining
subspecies of tigers (Bengal, Indochinese, Malayan, Siberian, South China, and Sumatran) is
estimated to be between 3,000 to 3,600 tigers. However I’d like to talk about two of them
because the two subspecies of tiger that I’m going to explain are the most important for me.

Bengal tigers are the most numerous tiger subspecies with its remaining wild populations
estimated at around 2,500. The Bengal tiger roams a wide range of habitats including high
altitudes, tropical and subtropical rainforests, mangroves, and grasslands. They are primarily
found in parts of India, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh. Bengal tigers are sometimes called
Indian tigers and account for over half of all tigers remaining in the wild. Poaching for tiger
parts is their major threat. The Bengal tiger is classified as endangered by the IUCN.

Siberian tigers  are found mainly in the Sinkhole Alin mountain region and the southwest
Primorye province in the Russian Far East. It is estimated there are around 300 Siberian tigers
in this region with small pockets of Siberian tigers in China and North Korea. The primary
threats to the survival of Siberian tigers are poaching and habitat loss from intensive logging
and development. Also the Siberian Tiger is classified as endangered by the IUCN.

How we can see this wonderful species could disappear but I hope that in the next years this
trend decrease because I know we’ll be able to reduce poaching that is the main cause of
animal extinction.
