Philosophy Design
Definition
Ventilation system is a system that regulates the air in the engine room which aims.

Function
The function of ventilation system :
- to provide comfort to the crews when working in the engine room
- providing the necessary air supply to the combustion process
- and maintain the equipment in the engine room that are sensitive to high
temperatures

Consideration of Design
This document explain about ventilation system in my ship design, in design the ventilation system
using two methode that be calculated first full air capacity required. Once the total capacity is
known, the next step is to conduct air into each division needs equipment such as main
engine, generators, boilers, hot tank, main propulsion diesel engine equipment, space, and
others. from the total capacity of air (100%), 50% of the air supplied to the engine room directed
at the top of the main engines turbocharged to meet the needs of the main combustion
engine and 50% to other equipment.
then the calculation of total pressure / pressure losses in this case using the method of "equal
friction". this calculation is used to determine the losses caused by the duct system design. So as
to know the total value of the total pressure that must be owned by the fans.

Regulation of the engine room ventilation among which :

- The temperature of the ambient air from outside should +35° C.
- The increase in the temperature of the intake air to the air passing from
the engine room to the door chasing maximum should be 12.5 K.
- The air capacity should be planned to provide comfort while working in
the engine room, to supply the necessary combustion air diesel engines and boilers, and
to prevent the occurrence of excessive heat on heat-sensitive equipment .
- The air must be distributed to all parts of the engine room , so the hot air pockets
avoided. Special consideration should be given to areas with large heat emission and all
areas of work, the air fresh and clean enough to be provided via the adjustable inlet.
- the flow capacity in the engine room is used for combustion and air flow to the engine
room should not be less than the flow of air for combustion (engine and boiler).

The air exhaust system should be designed to maintain a slight positive pressure in the engine
room. This should normally not exceed 50 Pa.
