The Ideal City of The 21st Century
The Ideal City of The 21st Century
An ideal city is an affordable one, a place where residents can keep more of their
disposable income. A range of transportation options and easy access to entertainment and
cultural attractions can also improve quality of life.
Fundamentally, we also need to ask what a city is.
It’s a place to live, which means somewhere to grow, to develop and to enjoy. But it’s
also a place to work, to educate, to socialise and to relax.
Cities were and remain the center of innovation, exchange, interests, culture and art.
Increasing urbanization is taking place all over the world.
The growth of cities internationally is a phenomenon of our time. Indeed, urbanisation
is accelerating at such an extraordinary rate that, in the 21st century, one of our main
activities will be city-making.
Not only are rural populations moving to cities (if they haven’t already done so), but
cities are increasing in population due to increased childbirth and life expectancy.
In Western countries urbanization is already slowing down and the challenge is to
optimize and update existing structures. With the change from an industrial society to a
service and knowledge society, cities offer numerous development opportunities for today's
highly individualized and fully connected society. The main challenge of cities which want to
play a role in the competition for businesses and residents face will be to offer a high level of
living quality.
Even if we are aware of the positive effects which nature is able to provide in cities,
we pay almost no attention to the complex and subtle ways, in which architecture and nature
can relate to each other. History showed us extraordinary examples of visionary projects
which explore new models of coexistence between buildings and nature. Lots of those
concepts seem to be forgotten.
A group of citizens realized a rooftop extension shaped like terraced housing
platforms at 1st district of the city. These platforms where like stacked little paradises
covered with dense vegetation.
Peoples housing platforms gave specific answers to major problems of modern cities.
Using existing infrastructure and extending them vertically with light wooden constructions,
result in higher density and reduce land-use. Wood as main structural material lowers primary
energy use by 1/3 and functions as gigantic carbon dioxide storage. Combining qualities of
forest ecosystems and urban metropolis, the existing city is transforming in a radical way. A
synthesis of architecture and nature evolves a complex new organism.
Every community is directly connected to public forest platforms in front of their
doors and inhabitants of the existing buildings use the added forest landscape as a welcome
outside space. Trees improve air quality, help to lower temperature and moderate local
climate. Other benefits of living between trees are shade, humidity, wind and acoustic control
and stress reduction.
To establish a microclimate we might perhaps need a walled garden as a place for
growing, and this might be accompanied by the rotation of crops elsewhere, and the
introduction of trees to provide shade and shelter.
I might also construct greenhouses, using a building type that benefits from the
discovery of how to harness the sun’s rays, using glass technology to assist growth within a
transparent enclosure.
So, city of 21 century has a new concept of city landscape construction proposed by
people. It contains many factors such as garden, culture, art, technology .
What is the landscape city?
We can conclude a formula that is: Landscape City = Garden City + Culture City +
Art Cities + modern technology city. Our cities have different natural and geographical
conditions and also have different society function. But for most of them, should set
landscape city as their development goal, this should be the global nation’s noble ideals of the
living environment in the 21st century.
Also cities need to develop new partnerships with the different stakeholders they
serve.
New forms of partnerships that go beyond simply listening to the views of others but
take action together are a vital part of this.
Citizens become more than a voter or customer – they are engaged as co-producers in
the policies that will shape the city’s future.
Designing homes based on own visions of an ideal living environment, will got
avantgardes of shaping future cities.
Our mission is to explore new ways of responding to a changing world. We are open
to new unexpected ideas, entirely devoted to architecture and urbanism and ready to make
life better.
schimbare. Suntem deschisi noilor idei neasteptate, dedicate in intregime
arhitecturii si urbanismului si gata sa facem viata mai buna.
