1. a. Prove that, the complex exponential function ez is periodic with a pure imaginary
period 2πi.
b. Prove that the complex logarithmic function is multiple-valued.

2. Show that if 𝑓(𝑧) = 𝑖𝑧̅/2 in the open disk |𝑧| < 1, then lim 𝑓(𝑧) = 𝑧
𝑧→1

𝑧
3. Show that if 𝑓(𝑧) = 𝑧̅ the limit lim 𝑓(𝑧) does not exist.
𝑧→0

4. Let a function 𝑓 is analytic throughout a given domain D. Assuming further that the
modulus |𝑓(𝑥)| is constant throughout D, prove that f (z) must be constant there too.

5. Let a function f be analytic everywhere in a domain D. Prove that if f (z) is real valued for
all z in D, then f (z) must be constant throughout D.

6. Test, if the function 𝑢 given below is harmonic or not. If it is harmonic, find the harmonic
conjugate function and the corresponding analytic function.
𝑢 = 𝑥2 − 𝑦2 − 𝑦

7. Let 𝑢(𝑥, 𝑦) = 𝑥 4 − 6𝑥 2 𝑦 2 + 𝑦 4 , find the corresponding analytic function using Milne-

Thompson Method.

8. Evaluate the integral ∫𝐶 𝑧̅𝑑𝑧 when 𝐶 is the right-hand half 𝑧 = 2𝑒 𝑖𝜃 (2 ≤ 𝜃 ≤ 2 )
of the circle |𝑧| = 2 from 𝑧 = −2𝑖 to 𝑧 = 2𝑖.

9. Show that the simple connectedness of the domain of definition of the function in
Cauchy’s integral theorem is essential.

2𝑧 2 −𝑧−2
10. Evaluate 𝑓(2) and 𝑓(3) where 𝑓(𝑎) = ∮𝐶 𝑑𝑧 and 𝐶 is the circle |𝑧| = 2.5
