Introduction-

Lockdown is the most discussed word in 2020 around the world due to the prevailing
situation of global pandemic due to the spread of Coronavirus. On 17 th June, 2020 there have
been 8,043,487 total cases of COVID-19. In India, the number is at 350,065 with the number
of death amounting to 11,903. The literal meaining for the word "Lockdown" is “a situation
in which people are not allowed to enter or leave a building or area freely because of an
emergency”. The lockdown India was spreaded over 5 phases in the span of 25 th March,2020
to 30th June, 2020 with the last phase being a little more relaxations with the lockdown only
extending to containment zones. During this lockdown except essential services most of the
companies and organizations will be closed. This resulted in people working from home and
just a general increase in the level of stress among people.

Discussion-

On discussing over the question of whether the day-to-day earners show a higher level of
stress, the following graphs represent the data filled in by the respondents who are dat to day
income earners when asked about the stress that they experience. Both pie charts are
collected in the difference of time of

As is evident by the data the sample of day to day earners have a high percentage that have
agreed to having experience unprecedented stress during lockdown. While at the beginning of
the lockdown, the percentage of 58% demonstrated unprecedented stress and 12% of the
population was uncertain, this percentage increased to 74% of people showing unprecedented
stress within 1 month into the lockdown. This goes on to show that as the lockdown proceeded,
more of these earners realised that it is more stressful.

Discussing the high level of stress demonstrated by the day to workers and the percentage of such
people increasing, it is important to note the major factor being such stress being money and the
income that differentiate these from the other samples of the population used in the research. The
data shows that 49% of the sample population of the day to day earners weren't paid at all during
the lockdown while 21% were partially paid. In the new data, the percentage of population not paid
at all is 55% which is a major factor in the increase of unprecedented stress among such population.
Also, in contrast to other population with fixed earning jobs and unemployed, the people with day to
day earnings are hit the hardest due to lockdown as most of them cannot fully and efficiently work
from home.

Now to compare the stress level of day to day earners with people with fixed income it the
huge difference is quite evident. Among people with fixed income, only 3% agrees with
having unprecedented stress which is far low than the day to day earners which is 58% of the
population. The population of fixed income percentage with stress increased to 58% after a
month into the lockdown which seems to be influence by other reasons than the income of the
individuals. The population percentage with stress is still lower than that of the day to day
earners which is at 74%.

The data collected in the research goes on to demonstrate that people with day to day earning
jobs agrees more to having experienced unprecedented stress than the people with fixed
income as the income source of such people have been most hurt due to the lockdown
situation in the country, With one month into the lockdown however, the stress rate of the
people with fixed income has increased significantly.

The graph goes on to demonstrate that majority of the sample population consists of businessman in
the day to day earning group. During this lockdown except essential services most of the
businesses, companies and organizations will be closed, thus, it is safe to say that the economic
life of such people has taken a great hit due to lockdown, including shopkeppers having o close
down their shops, thus, it is logical that such people show high or unprecedented stress.
