Gas mixture and control systems
Throttle valves
As a part of the KRONOS 10 system, the throttle valve regulates the speed and power
output of the gas engine via the quantity of the air/gas mixture. In special applications the
throttle valve can also be used as a gas valve to regulate the gas/air ratio.
The sizes 50 to 400 in sealed versions cover a wide power range and are also suitable for
supercharged engines.
The high manufacturing quality of the throttle valves enables optimised engine manage
ment and a long service life.
The range of rotation is 75°. The direction of rotation can be freely chosen.

Knock detection system
Knock Detect
The simple method of knock detection. Engine-typical knock configurations for MAN,
LIEBHERR, MITSUBISHI, DEUTZ MWM are already stored in the device.
Other engines can be calibrated and imported on request in advance and the parameters
adapted accordingly.
Depending on the design of the engine you will need 1 – 4 knock sensors and a trigger pulse
from the ignition coil of cylinder 1.
Installation is simplified with pre-assembled cables for the triggering of the ignition coil of
cylinder 1 and to the knock sensors, along with special mounting bolts for the sensors.
No additional software is required. For programming and PC-based diagnostics, simply
connect the device to the network of your computer. The user interface of the KnockDetect
is displayed via the integrated Internet browser.
The device has 8 digital inputs. 2 of these are assigned fixed functions:
• “RUNNING” shows the device that the engine is running synchronously
with the network.
• “50% LOAD” shows that the power delivery is ≤ 50% of the nominal power output.
Both inputs can be used to switch the evaluation on or off.
3 digital outputs are available to signal the following to the CHP controller:
• KNOCK! – the engine is knocking
• STOP – the engine must be stopped in the normal way
• E-STOP! – an immediate EMERGENCY STOP is required (E-STOP = EMERGENCY STOP)
Two digital outputs and one additional analogue 0 – 20 mA output are available for adjust
ment of the ignition timing.
These outputs can be adjusted so that one output switches and adjusts the ignition timing
above a defined knock window. The 4 – 20 mA output can be freely configured.
In addition, two further digital outputs and one analogue 0 – 20 mA output are integrated
for adjustment of the engine power output.
The Knock Detect system also has 2 digital interfaces that can be used to read and write all
relevant data.

Oil level controller
E Series
The E Series with cast aluminium housings is manufactured in 2 sizes (200 mm and
250 mm). Multiple connections for pipes and hoses facilitate installation and connection.
This series is an universal design in terms of the choice of level contacts and installation/
attachment options.
Easy oil connections to the oil pan are enabled via 3x G ½" threaded connections, while 2×
G ⅜" connections are used for the compensation line and for oil refilling. The oil level can
be clearly seen in the display glass even under poor lighting conditions.
The elongated holes on the side are made for easy installation and adjustment of the con
troller. Coordinated accessories and special versions facilitate installation and assembly
and cover virtually all application variants:
• Cable outputs with screw connection for protective hose
• Electrical connection box made of die-cast aluminium, IP 65
• Flat glass oil level display for pressures up to 5 bar
• Flange-mounted housing with rear-facing banjo bolts G ⅜"
• Adjustable pointer for switching point indication
• Weld-on flange plate for easy installation of the housing
• Ex-proof version in accordance with ATEX, UL and CSA
M Series
The M Series made of die-cast aluminium is a cost-effective alternative to the E Series. With
3 contacts it is suitable for many applications. Thanks to the large inspection glass, the
oil level can also be visually monitored very easily, and the adjustment of the individual
switching points is made much easier.
36
Oil level controller
Series M21 / AF-125 – I
Featuring an analogue measuring transducer with a measuring range of 125 mm and a res
olution of 10 mm. The measuring transducer has an output signal ranging from 4 – 20 mA
and is mounted in a space-saving arrangement on the M21 housing. The cube plug can be
rotated through 360° for easy electrical connection. Up to two digital level switches can
also be mounted as an option.
P Series
The P Series in the two sizes P12 and P18 has been specially developed as a cost-effective
solution for minimum oil level monitoring. These devices prevent operation with a too low
oil level. Optionally there is also a pre-warning contact to give you enough time to respond
before the machine is switched off due to the oil level dropping to a minimum. A sight glass
shows the current oil level.
Solenoid valves
The above controllers are combined with suitable solenoid valves to form a unit that
monitors the oil level between the MIN and MAX limits and tops up with fresh oil if there is
a deviation from the target value.
The solenoid valve opens after being actuated by the floating magnetic switch.
The nominal size is dimensioned so that the oil flows at a rate of approx. 4 l/h with the oil
reservoir positioned at a supply height of 1 m.
For operational safety reasons (redundancy) a double solenoid valve with an upstream dirt
trap and a shut-off valve should be mounted in the oil supply.
The double solenoid valve BV 01 / 2 has a G ¼" internal thread and one connector connec
tion per valve. The mating connector with pre-assembled cable is included in the delivery
package. The coil supply is 230 V / 50 Hz or 24 V DC; other voltages are available on request.
A mounting bracket for easy installation of the valve is available as an accessory.
Suitable solenoid valves are also available for Ex- proof applications in accordance with:
ATEX – 94 / 9 / EG, ignition protection type: II 2G EEx m II C T3 CSA or UL: Class I, Div. II,
Group D, T3.
For applications in petrochemistry and in the offshore sector, the requirements placed on
solenoid valves go beyond the requirements of Ex safety with increased corrosion protec
tion requirements. We can also supply these solenoid valves on demand.

Oil and air filters
Our UPF filters for use in gas engines are available for the following MWM types: TCG 2016,
CG 132, CG 170-12, TCG 2020 V12, TCG 2020 V16- V20, CG 170-16-20.
Our range also includes sieve filters, oil filters and other filters for CHP engines.
BALDWIN
BALDWIN FILTERS offers over 4,800 different types of filter. This is the most comprehensive
range of products available in the industry.
The air filter elements create a barrier for airborne dirt and contamination. They separate
contamination and deliver clean air to the engine intake.
Oil filters – particularly the ones developed for high-performance applications – have the
sole purpose of keeping harmful and damaging pollutants away from sensitive engine
components. They remove contaminants from the oil in the following ways: Some particles
attach themselves to the surface of the filter medium when the oil flows through without
blocking the pores of the medium. Other particles are trapped in the filter medium as a
result of the oil pressure when the oil flows through. If the flow path through the filter
changes, particles penetrate into the medium or are forced into the medium. Ideally, most
of the particles are trapped in the outer part and exit the inner part, which is kept free to
trap further particles as they flow through as a result. Over time the pores of the medium
clog up and the effectiveness of the filter gradually deteriorates.

Measuring equipment, tools and accessories
As a result of erosion of the spark plug electrodes during operation of the engine, the gap
between the centre electrode and the ground electrode of the spark plugs steadily widens,
and above a certain gap this can lead to misfirings as it is no longer possible to generate
ignition sparks. Cleaning the spark plugs and readjusting the spark plug electrode gap can
extend the service life of the spark plug up to its wear limit.
Spark plug adjustment tool for BERU 18 GZ 44
Depending on the type of application, it may become necessary to change the default
electrode gap of 0.35 mm:
• Electrode gap between 0.25 mm and 0.35 mm for natural gas operation
• Electrode gap between 0.40 mm and 0.60 mm for fermentation gas operation
Various so-called “pins” are available for adjusting different gap dimensions. These are
colour-coded to make it easier to separate them.

Measuring equipment, tools and accessories
Properties:
• prevents seizures due to heat or corrosion
• protects against rust and friction corrosion
• good pressure absorption capacity
• highly resistant to chemicals and solvents
• good sealing against corrosive gases and fluids
• good resistance to water
• protects against corrosion
• good separating effect
Application:
Clean the surface and apply a thin film of ANTI-SEIZE completely to the threads and sur
faces that will be under load. Wipe off any excess. Do not use in the same way as grease!
Resistant to hot and cold water, as well as to most acids and alkalines.
To do this, move the piston of the cylinder you wish to work on to top dead centre on
the operating stroke so that both valves are closed. A small amount of lubricating grease
(ENSERV spark plug assembly paste) in the threads will prevent any detached residue from
falling into the cylinder. Carefully screw in the tool until the spring is compressed. Then
turn it back two or three turns and blow out any loose particles.
Afterwards remove the tool again.
