1Why do the people at  the roadside stand ask for the city money
Ans..They are poor and deprived unlike city people
        Need the money to have a better life full of happiness and prosperity
       Needed  it for the lift promised by the party in power ( any two=2)

2.What part of the story did Jack himself enjoy the most and why?
Ans. Jack enjoyed narrating the part of the story where Roger goes to the wizard's house.
He used to narrate the story by imitating the wizard's voice./ (He did it by scrunching up his
face and somehow whining through his eyes) / He felt being an old man suited him / the part
where he mixed his own childhood humiliations and experiences with narration of the story /
the parts that made Jo apprehensive and tense.( any two ,key words=2)

3.Why did Jo think Roger Skunk was better off with the new smell?
Ans. • Earlier he was lonely / had no friends because of his foul smell.
• Roger skunk had many friends when he started smelling like roses.
• Roger Skunk could play games with them.( both points to be included=2)

4. Why does Jack consider himself 'caught in an ugly middle position'?


Ans. • Jack is possessive about the details of his story.
• He does not take kindly to Jo's suggested changes and the wizard hitting the
mommy.
• He is upset with his daughter questioning the parental authority.
• He felt to be in a position similar to that of his wife (in a cage with her).
• Yet felt no sympathy for his wife
• He could put neither his daughter to sleep nor help his wife paint the furniture.

5.Why does Jo call the Skunk's mommy stupid?


Ans. Mommy hit the wizard and forced him to change the Skunk's smell / so Jo thought that
the
mommy was stupid because if the skunk smells bad, he would have no friends - moreover
the wizard was a hero to the little girl / mommy couldn't understand why Roger Skunk
wanted to change his smell. (any two=2)

6.What is mother Skunk's role in the story?


Ans. • To make Roger Skunk realise the importance of originality / individuality / one's
identity.
• Roger Skunk should not be ashamed of his natural attributes.
• The Mother Skunk plays the role of a decisive and protective parent (hits the wizard
on the head), and gets the smell of roses changed to Skunk's stench, to preserve it's
identity and also because she knows that the stench is a defensive mechanism for
the Skunk.
• To protect the Skunk from the predators.( any two=2)
