Group Testing Officer (G.T.O)

The candidates are divided into groups at least 6 and max. 9. The main aim
of these tests is to examine the abilities of coordination and team working.
In this test self confidence as well as the behavior of the candidate is
examined by G.T.O.

1.Group Discussion

In this test self confidence as well as the behavior of the candidate is examined by G.T.O.
The group discussion or group discussion task has assumed great importance. In the
Group Testing Officer Task or G.T.O Task, the candidate creates the first impression on
the Group Testing Officer (G.T.O) and other members of his group.
The good performance of the candidate in the task of group discussion creates a good
impression on the Group Testing Officer, and enrich his role in subsequent group tasks.
As first impression is the last impression, hence the candidate must try his best to show
his worth in group discussion. During group discussion all candidates are arranged
to sit in a circle.

Thereafter, the group discussions

Task begins. In this task, Two topic will be given, usually the topics are recent social issues and
crisis releted.

You should be initiative and should speak at any cost.


Total 25 min will be continue the group discussion if this is Go0d then he will

enhance the time of this task otherwise No. GTO just check the logic, how deeper you can
analysis a topic and main thing is that “Can u prove yourself in 10persons??“ Remember
you have to make a logical discussion with a conclusion.

Helpful Tips for Group Discussions


1. Carefully listen to the briefing of the Group Testing Officer.
2. Take interest in the discussion and remain very active during the discussion.
3. Try to understand the topic first and make your effort to take lead in determining the
choice of the subject.
4. Talk with confidence to the whole group looking in the eye of each candidate, and you
must not keep looking at the Group Testing officer.
5. Don’t be rigid in your ideas, must accept criticism with open mind.
6. Co-operate with others in friendly manner.
7. Remember its not the command of English language checked during this discussion,
do not hesitate even if you are making grammatical mistakes.

Helpful Tips For ISSB Group Discussion


Candidate can prove his worth during group discussion by expressing many qualities and his own abilities.
First of all, candidate should understand the subject or topic of group discussion. He/She must take full
interest in the group discussion topic and stay active while his/her observation about the views of other
candidates should be very sharp and active.
Observe all the candidates who are in the group. If someone is waiting for the chance to speak you must
give him/her chance to speak. Spirits and face expression should be cheerful.

Candidate should try to take initiative role during the group discussion but in the case only when he/she
has enough info about the given topic of group discussion. It is not necessary but candidate can make a
good impression.
Or
If candidate think that he/she can sum up all the topic and conclusion then its better to speak up at the
last.

There are some qualities that do matters during issb group discussion.

• Confidence
• Eye contact
• Face expression
• Point of view
Candidate should illustrate his point of view with

• confidence reasonable logic


• short but brief
• expressive manner
Candidate must not be
• Rigid in his ideas
• repeating same things again and again
• Avoid self-contradictions

Group Planning Exercise

It is an indoor task, where the Group Testing officer will conduct this test by two step.

1)Writing the plan in page individually: In testing hall GTO will provide everyone
A map individually with a story. Candidates have to write down the problem with
priority thereafter they have to write down the solution including distance with time
management. The candidate are not allowed to consult each other while writing down
their solutions.

2)Discussion part: Thereafter, the candidate are required to discuss among


themselves to identify the problems with priority and solutions to arrive at a common
solution. Every candidate is desired to express his views on the situation. All the
candidates must arrive at a group plan. In the case the whole group is not unanimous in
deciding the solution, then

the plan accepted by the majority of the candidates is presented as the plan of the group.
Then one of the candidate

who is selected by the group itself stand up as a spokesman and present the plan to the
Group Testing Officer.

After the presentation of group plan with solution, the


Group Testing Officer may ask the other candidate to give comments or criticism or
suggestion. If anything more to improve or

modify the plan. He may also ask If a

car is moving at speed of 20km/hr, will you can reach the destination is time? (hopefully
my question makes sense).

In Group planning GTO will speaks a lot than other tasks ,he will try to change your
mind from that model you everyone given your solution. Try to tackle his counter in
logical way, It will prove your present intelligence.

For Group Planning, he will check your participation , again logic and attitude matters.

Always remembers the conditions which he will tell you about that plan like time ,speed,
Distance, about Roads. You have to be very careful while time management of your
group solutions

Secondly during planning every one will give his opinion so listen to others too and give
your opinion with logic.

Command Task

In this test the group of candidates has given a task in a specified area and one of them
is appointed as commander and they have to pass through an area having hurdles and
outbound areas, All candidates are appointed as commander one by one according to
their chest numbers.

Half Command Task

In this task the group is divided into three sub groups and this time no one is
commander and candidates have to pass through a specified area having hurdles and
outbound places
In this task no one is commander and group is combined again and the job is same as
above

Individual Obstacles

In this test a candidate have to pass through 7 obstacles within a limited time

A light Interview by G.T.O

When a candidate is appointed as commander G.T.O. takes a light interview of the


candidate including question about his activities, education, intelligence and family back
ground . It is a short viva conduct GTO before command task .

Tips

Always cooperate with your fellows and do not be a part of leg pulling and imposing
your suggestions and orders on your fellows because forces are the name of coordination
and team work.

By carefully following the suggestions you will be able to Project your OLQ (Officer Like Qualities) to the
selectors at the Services
Selection Board.
Remember to be natural and calm, be your self, do your best, put the interest of the group before your
own, and always be alert. By being yourself your qualities are easily seen by the selectors. All the selectors
are well trained, so please do not use any unfair means are bluff.
