Stripping Wheels 19

EXTRA COARSE, NON-WOVEN ABRASIVE FIBER

Great for removing excess baked-on varnish from stators or paint from
motor housings and the such.
The rugged construction of this material, along with the knife-like cutting
characteristics of silicon carbide grain, produces the most aggressive work-
ing non-woven material without a reinforced backing.

perfect for stripping the ends of coils in small diameter stators. The
wheel fits on a 1/4” arbor, and can be used in any tool up to a 25,000
r.p.m. (We have cut chain links with this wheel and arbor in an elec-
tric hand drill at 700 r.p.m.)
Available also is a 4” diameter wheel, with 1/4” hole, but with a top
speed limitation of 19,000 r.p.m.
Shown below is the arbor and 3” wheel in the Martindale 18,000

Mini-Bar Mica Hand Saw

This hand-held undercutting saw is a handy way of accurately undercutting those small commutators where the use of a powered under-
cutter is too awkward or cannot be justified.
This tool uses replaceable blades which are ground to specific thicknesses so that the proper width undercut can be made. The blade
is reversible so that it can be used for either a “Push” or a “Draw” cut.
Replaceable blades are available in thicknesses of .015”, .020”, .026”, .030”, .035”, .040”, and .043”.

Martindale Automatic Wire Stripper 9
Makes Wire Stripping Fast and Easy

Martindale Automatic Wire Strippers are always ready for use. They require no “cocking” or setting.
Their triple action of clamping the wire, cutting the insulation, and stripping it, is automatically timed and performed
with one squeeze on the handles. Length of strip is regulated by amount of wire extending beyond the blades.
Maximum strip is 7/8”; for longer, just repeat process. Wire size is shown beneath each stripping hole.
After the stripping action, a partial release of pressure on the handles opens jaws and wire is removed. Full release
of pressure returns the tool to the starting position, ready for next strip.
Blades are interchangeable and replaceable.

Twin Wheel Wire Stripper Strips wire from 8 to 46 AWG.

The abrasive method of stripping wire utilizes either wire or fiberglass brushes to abrade
the insulation off the conductor. This type of stripping is both quicker and less damaging
to the wire than scraping processes. This unit can handle round, square, rectangular or
oval shaped magnet wire and also standard wire with most common types of insulation.
This tool also removes oxides from component leads quickly and easily to promote bet-
ter soldered connections. A built-in guard affords protection from fingers coming in con-
tact with the wire of fiberglass wheels.

The Martindale Slot Cleaning Outfit is used before winding an arma-
ture to remove from the slots any burrs or sharp edges which might
puncture the slot lining or scrape the wire insulation.
The grinding discs are aluminum-oxide resin-bond, on a backing of
tough flexible vulcanized fibre. They are offered with abrasive coating
either on one side only, or on both sides. It is recommended that the
single-sided disc be backed up with a stiffener such as an old worn
disc, whereas the two-sided disc requires no added stiffness and cuts
on both sides. Grinding Discs not included in Grinding Outfit.

Model D Wedge Beveler accurately cuts and bevels wedges of any Model D Wedge Beveler
size and of special shapes, quickly saving its cost by preventing delays.
For beveling, a fixture is provided that acts as both hold-down and

Beveling Cutters are used singly or in pairs. Each cutter is ground to

4901 Capstan Tension Device is a rotary tension unit, which provides

well regulated and easily adjusted wire tension. One of these devices is
positioned over each spool of wire to be used. This device consists of a
steel frame which supports the tension assembly of a spindle, 3” dia. pul-
ley, brake hub, brake disk, brake spring and tension adjusting nut.
Ceramic bushings in the spindle at the bottom guide the wire coming
upward from the spool. A spring loaded clamp with a felt lining holds the
wire on the pulley and also removes some of the oil from the wire.

Three Phase Group Winding Heads

Four Group Winding Heads are available; No’s. 5, 10 and 11 are illustrated. Specifications for all four are given in the
table below. No. 10 and No. 11 has one set of medium range jaws; No. 5 has a smaller set; No. 12 has the largest set.
These group heads make three phase random mush coils in diamond, square, or rectangular shapes, from 1/4 h.p. to
125 h.p. capacity and can be bolted to any winding head face plate. The head is graduated to scale, making it easy to
record specific job set-ups for repetition later.
Winding is done at high speed. Six coils can be released and the next six set up in the machine in 10 seconds by means
of a single action cam collapse mechanism.

26 Bench Type Coil Winder
This compact, reasonably priced, coil winder is designed for smaller shops
where winding may not be done every day and also for larger shops as a sec-
ondary utility winder.
Used primarily with one of the winding heads shown below, this winder can pro-
duce field, mush, armature, solenoid, electromagnet, and other small coils. It is
equipped with sealed bearings on all shafts and is engineered for smooth opera-
tion with constant torque and positive stopping for precise control over every job.
The clutch and brake can be controlled either by hand or with the foot pedal with
chain. There are three speed adjustments which can be made by simply chang-
ing the belts on the pulleys (Low — 108 rpm — 28 ft./lbs. torque) (Medium — 220
rpm — 15 ft./lbs. torque) (High — 440 rpm — 7 ft./lbs. torque). All three versions
of this machine come equipped with a heavy duty counter.
