Table 1-1 Requirements for the input power of the IDU

IDU Type Rated Voltage Voltage Number of Recommende
Range Input Power d Fuse
Supplies Capacity

RTN 950 IDU -48 V/-60 V -38.4 V to -72 V 2 20 A

NOTE

l The recommended fuse capacity of 20 A can meet requirements under the maximum power
consumption. Customers can compute the fuse capacity according to the actual power consumption.
The fuse capacity should be larger than or equal to (total power consumption x 1.5)/(rated power supply
x 87.5%). For example, when the rated power supply is -48 V and the total power consumption of the
IDU is less than or equal to 420 W, the fuse capacity can be set to 15 A.
l If the IDU is installed in a cabinet, the customer can purchase the DC power distribution unit (PDU)
from Huawei. This PDU inputs two channels of -48 V/ -60 V power supply and outputs eight channels
of 20 A -48 V/ -60 V power supply.
l If the customer can obtain only +24 V DC power or 110 V/220 V AC power, the customer can purchase
the power module from Huawei. For the relevant information, consult Huawei engineers.

The general requirements of the DC power system are as follows:

l The capacity of the power system should be designed in full consideration of the maximum
load of the system in the dynamic and static situations. In addition, certain margin should
be reserved.
l The primary power supply and the storage battery should be of hot backup to ensure that
the equipment can work normally in the case of power failure.
l The power equipment should be placed close to the communication equipment, hence
minimizing the length of the DC feeder cable.
l The DC power cable should be routed from the DC PDU or the DC cable distribution box.
The cable diameter should meet the design requirement.
l The working ground of the DC power supply should be connected directly to the protection
ground in the telecommunications room. The diameter of the protection ground cable
should meet the design requirement.
l The fuse for limiting the current from the DC PDU (or the DC cable distribution box) and
the primary power supply should meet the operating requirements of the equipment.
The AC power system is required at the maintenance terminal and in the engineering
implementation work. Therefore, the AC power supply in the telecommunications room should
be made available before the work. If the equipment is not installed with the network
management system (NMS), the mains power can meet the requirement of the engineering
implementation. Otherwise, the facilities such as the uninterruptible power system (UPS) should
be made available according to the requirement of the NMS.

Range Input Power d Fuse
Supplies Capacity

RTN 950 IDU -48 V/-60 V -38.4 V to -72 V 2 20 A

NOTE

The customer can compute the capacity of the fuse according to the actual power consumption. The formula
is (Total power consumption x 1.5)/(Rated power supply x 87.5%).

The APM30H and TMC11H need to use different power terminals to supply power to the IDUs.
Therefore, note the following points when configuring the power supply:
l For the APM30H, use LOAD4 to LOAD7 to supply power to the OptiX RTN 950.

NOTE

For a power terminal that supplies power to the OptiX RTN 950, change the fuse capacity to 15 A
and ensure that the equipment power consumption is not higher than 460 W.
l If the TMC11H uses the DCDU-03B, use LOAD6 to LOAD8 to supply power to the OptiX
RTN 950. For the OptiX RTN 950, ensure that the power consumption is not higher than
368 W.

2.5 Requirements for the Accessory Equipment

When the base station and IDU need to be interconnected through E1 cables in the APM30H/
TMC11H, the APM30H/TMC11H requires a DDF inside.
Two types of DDFs can be installed in the APM30H/TMC11H, namely, surge-protective DDF
and ordinary DDF. For interconnection between the base station and the IDU in the APM30H/
TMC11H, cables are routed only inner the APM30H/TMC11H and therefore an ordinary DDF
is preferred.
The installed DDF needs to meet the following requirements:
l The DDF complies with the corresponding China and international standards.
l The DDF capacity meets the capacity requirement of this project and prepare for long-term
planning.
l The type of the delivered IF cables matches with the type of the connectors on the DDF.
l The DDF is connected to the PGND in the cabinet through a cooper wire whose cross-
sectional area is not shorter than 6 mm2.

l The site is far away from flammable and explosive articles.
l The site is above 3.7 km away from the seaside or salt lakes.
l The site is far away from power transformer stations.
l The site is far from any livestock farms.
If the site cannot avoid livestock farms, the site is in the upwind direction of the livestock
farms.
l The site is far from any pollution source.
– The site is above 5 km far from heavy pollution sources, such as smelteries and coal
mines.
– The site is above 3.7 km far from medium pollution sources, such as chemical factories,
rubber factories, and galvanization factories.
– The site is above 2 km far from light pollution sources, such as packing house and
tanyard.
If the site cannot avoid a pollution source, the site is in the upwind direction of the pollution
source.
l The site cannot be located in the following places:
– Places where violent shakes or strong noise always occurs
– Places with high temperature, much floating particles, and poisonous gas, for example,
industrial boilers and heating boilers

6.1 Requirements for the Cable Materials

Generally, the power cables, PGND cables, and transmission cables are delivered with the
equipment. If the cables are provided by the customer, the cables should meet the requirements.

Table 6-1 Requirements for the indoor cable materials

Cable Type Material Requirement

Power cable Common power cables without jackets:

Generally, use the insulation parts that are
made from PVC materials. In the case of
special requirements (for example, weather
resistance, high and low temperature
resistance), use the silicon rubber, FEP, or
PEA materials.

Common power cables with jackets:

Generally, use the insulation parts that are
made from PVC or XLPE materials, and use
the sockets that are made from PVC
materials. If any fire-resistant requirements
(such as low smog and halogen-free) are
proposed, use the LSZH materials.

Power cables with high and low temperature

resistance: Generally, use the sockets that are
made from FEP materials.

Symmetric cable Generally, use the insulation parts that are

made from PE, PP, or PVC materials, and use
the sockets that are made from PE or outdoor
PVC materials.

Coaxial cable Generally, use the insulation parts that are

made from PE, PTFE, or FEP materials, and
use the sockets that are made from PVC, PE,
or FEP materials.

PGND cable The PGND cable consists of alternating

yellow and green plastic-insulated copper
wires.

Site Preparation Guide 6 Preparation Requirements for the Cables

NOTE

l When selecting an indoor cable, generally, consider the fire-resistant performance of the cable. If no high
requirements for weather resistance are proposed, use the sockets that are made from PVC materials.
l If high fire-resistant requirements are proposed for the cables, generally, use the insulation parts that are
made from fire-resistant PE or PVC materials, and use the sockets of the test cables that are made from PVC
materials.
l The materials of the insulation parts and sockets of the cables meet the RoHS environmental protection
requirements.
l The cable materials also meet the local regulations or the requirements of the customer.

6.2 Requirements for Routing Cables

The cable routes and routing operations are specified at the preparation stage of the customer.
l Different types of cables are routed separately.
l Cabling routes and positions are designed in advance. All the cables are arranged neatly.
l The bending part of a cable is even and smooth. The minimum bending radius is more than
60 mm for the cable and is more than 40 mm for the fiber. The minimum bending radius
of the IF cable is more than 30 cm.
l The insulating layer of the conducting wire must not be damaged.
l The cables that are routed along the wiring frame must be bundled.
The cables are bundled closely with appropriate force. The spacing between cable ties is
even.
l The cables in the trough do not need to be bundled, but they need to be placed tidily and
straight with no crossover. No cable overflows the trough. At the inlets, outlets, and turns
of the trough, the cables are bundled with cable ties.
l The power cable and PGND cable cannot have any connectors or welding spots in the
middle, and cannot be connected to a switch or a fuse.
l If fiber jumpers are routed outside the cabinet, a corrugated pipe or a winding pipe must
be equipped.
l The excessive fiber jumpers are coiled on a dedicated equipment, for example, a fiber
management tray. Proper force is applied to winding a fiber. Bending a fiber forcibly is not
allowed to prevent the fiber from being broken.
l The two ends of a cable are bundled and affixed with labels.
