METHODOLOGY FOR CONCRETE POURING

SITE PLANNING
o Fresh concrete shall be batched from the approved supplier of
concrete. Concrete will be delivered direct to the site and to be received
by assistant Quality Engineer for checking of the required criteria of
concrete. The assistant QC Engineer will make sure the concrete
delivered is as per the approved design mix for the situated member to
be casted.
o All data for testing on fresh concrete at site shall be recorded on the
concrete pour card.

PREPARATION
Rebar
1. Fix the reinforcement steel as per the approved drawings, including
number of reinforcing bars, diameter of bars, length of splice and
location of splice.
2. Any loose binder or ties along the spliced reinforcement steel shall be
re-tightened. Bend inward the free ends of the binding wire or ties.
3. Ensure that concrete cover is maintained, as per approved plans.
4. Reinforcing steel above the level of concrete to be poured shall be
covered with any impermeable sheet to prevent excessive laitance.
MEPFS
1. Ensure and coordinate with MEPFS staff for any MEPFS works required
on the area as per approved drawings.
Formworks
1. Any damaged materials used for form work shall not be used.
2. Fix the forms. Ensure that all seals, locks and supports are securely
fastened and tightened.
3. Clean the surfaces using air compressor for dust or any small particles
or deleterious materials that may impair the workability of concrete.
4. All surfaces of forms facing concrete shall be treated with form oil
before concrete will be poured.
5. Installation of Formworks systems must be inspected and approved by
the technical engineer of the supplier.

Line and Grade
1. The surveyor will then check the level of the projected top surface of
the slab and place level strips or guidelines if necessary to mark the
exact level.
2. Surveyor will provide a survey report for all structures to be poured.
Survey Report must include as-built coordinates and elevations of the
forms, prior to concreting.
Concreting
1. The concreting must be arranged with necessary equipment or tools
for concreting use such as vibrators, power float machine, shovel etc.
Safety
1. All works shall comply with safety procedure or instruction set out in
project safety plan.
2. Basic PPE must be worn by all staff and workers. Skilled and unskilled
labor shall need to use safety requirements such as goggles, gloves,
etc
3. Provide sufficient lighting whenever pouring is done at night.
4. For columns, working platforms with guard rails and lifelines must be
provided.
5. Barricades must be placed along the perimeter of the area to be
poured, particularly for suspended structures.
6. Ensure that exit routes are readily accessible and free of obstruction.

CONCRETE POURING
1. The concrete mixer must be stopped at the check point for the
inspection of slump test and to obtain sample cylinders.
2. Eight sample cylinders shall be taken. Two cylinders shall be tested on
7th, 14th and 28th days. The remaining two cylinders shall be tested
on the 30th and 32nd days, in case concrete fails on the 28th day.
3. Unload the concrete within 90 minutes from the batching plant loading
time.
4. Compact the concrete properly by using mechanical vibrators, extra
vibrator shall be available in case of any shortage or mechanical
problems. Concrete must be vibrated for 10 to 15 seconds before it is
removed and reinserted at another point. The vibrator must be
inserted vertically into the concrete mix.
5. For columns and shearwall, concrete shall be poured in layers with a
height of 600mm per layer. Concrete shall be properly vibrated before
the next layer is poured. The vibrator shall be inserted in such a way
that it reaches the old layer to ensure that the old and new concrete is
integrated properly.
6. For slabs, concrete shall be poured from the farthest location outwards
towards any exit point. Concrete shall be spread using shovel and
mechanical vibrators and shall be leveled to the required elevation
7. For stairs and other inclined structures, concrete shall be poured from
the bottom of the structure to the top to avoid separation of
aggregates.
8. Once concrete begins to set, use the power trowel to achieve a smooth
finish surface.
9. After the smooth finish is achieved, cure the casted area properly by
applying curing compound unto the exposed concrete surface.
10. Cure the concrete by spraying water three times per day for a
period of 7 days
11. Concrete pour card shall be filled by Quality Engineer and shall
be submitted to the Engineer including concrete delivery notes.
